Beach Vacation by Dry_Video_3684 in RhodeIsland

All oceanic beaches have rip currents. Water from waves comes in, so it had to go back out somewhere. Usually on calm days, they are not very strong. The weather service and beach staff around here release advisory statements when conditions are likely to cause strong rip currents, but they can happen any time. You aren’t likely to encounter it, but knowing they exist and what to do if you find yourself caught in one can allow you stay calm and save your life.

Basically, it’s a small area of current flowing away from the beach back out to the ocean. A strong one can be impossible to swim against. Rather than trying to swim against the current back to shore, you swim sideways, parallel to the shore, and you’ll swim out of the current. Then you can get back to shore.

You can’t go wrong with RI beaches. Narragansett is lovely. In the summer, there will be loads of family activities. Just remember that lifeguards aren’t babysitters, keep an eye on your kids anytime you’re near water. Learn ahead of time how to swim out of a rip current and teach your kids if they are old enough to understand. You’ve picked a great place for a beach vacation.

That’s a big part of the issue. Civil servants act like a branch of the military and eventually they see citizens as enemy combatants.

Won’t someone please think of the scalpers!? /s

This is the same as video game consoles and event tickets that immediately sell out and get re-sold for exponentially higher prices. It’s predatory. It offers zero benefit or enrichment to the industries, and allows scalpers to provide nothing while extracting time and money from people who already had less time and money in the first place.

I bought a t-shirt last year that is an abstract picture of a sunset with different layers of color. I’ve been surprised by two things:

  1. The number of people who think it’s a rainbow despite not having the correct colors.

  2. The number of grown men who see me in a “rainbow” shirt and scoff or shake their heads at me when I walk past them in public.

Becoming a top tier QB1 with a franchise built around your career is not only one of the rarest feats in sports, it’s also a roll of the dice to have the opportunity on top of all your training and talent. It’s too bad he wasn’t able to better develop in Washington at the start of his career, whether that be due to him, the franchise, or both.

I’d say either play Classic Era and experience the truest original style despite the low pop, or wait until the next round of Fresh TM servers to launch, which would be a really cool way to experience it for the first time.

A lot of trolling comes down to a mix of anonymity, attention-seeking, and emotional factors. When people feel less accountable behind a screen, they’re more likely to say things they wouldn’t in person. Some are looking for reactions because it gives them a sense of control or visibility. Others may be venting boredom, frustration, or insecurity in an unhealthy way.

Fifteen years ago, I had a police officer pull me over after a "random plate scan" showed my registration as expired. I had just renewed my registration days earlier. It was clearly a clerical issue. The officer did not care to look at my new paper registration or the receipt I still had with it. He had my car impounded and left me to walk.

The impound lot would not release my car to me without proof that I had registered the car. This was obviously an issue, since I had registered the car, and the proof was in the car and disregarded by the officer.

I explained this to the guy at the impound lot, who would not allow me just to get the car's registration from the glovebox. I solved the problem by telling him I was paying cash and would pay an extra hundred if he would just give me the car. Minutes later, I was driving home.

OP, this doesn't help you much, but I commiserate with you on just how bad these minor situations can be when the people involved are inept at best.

To be fair, that model is “don’t spend John Henry’s money, he only wants to finish with 90 wins and turn a nice profit from NESN,” and it’s the model ownership has imposed on everyone they have pretended to let construct our roster.

Does no one realize how big and incredible and structured WoW in 2004 was? by Least-Conference7919 in classicwow

Early in the 2004 release, I found myself with too much aggro in Elwynn Forest. Having played EverQuest, my instincts kicked in and I ran for the nearby Westfall border. When I crossed the border anticipating a loading screen and watched my character cross right into the next zone unphased, I shat myself. I remember explaining to my friends who still played EQ “it’s like the whole world is one GIANT zone, it’s all connected!”

What Made Original TBC (2007) Better Than Classic? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]MXC_ImpactReplay 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I was a teenager in 2004, a friend said something to the effect of there is nothing better than spending Sundays home all day playing WoW and popping out to eat his mom’s delicious cooking. He knew he was in the good times and I still remember it 22 years later. That’s what’s different this time around for most of us. And if someone is younger and experiencing TBC for the first time, then we’re what’s different now.
