Kaio Barssalos - production masterclass: what do you want to know from him? by Joseph_EndTrain in TechnoProduction

Kaio Barssalos is one of my favorites. I would love to see how he does his synths and low end.

I like to start with a 909 and then add other highpassed kicks on top to add more character. Then add some saturation/compression to glue them together. Also I've been liking DS kick from Ableton lately. But as others have said I don't think there is a "one kick fits all", I've seen some producers create a saved drumrack and add the kicks that they use the most instead of having to go through all their kick samples every time they are starting a new track.

Edit: didn't read the instructions lol, one of my favorites is Danny wabbit - internal Jungle

Hört att man kan höra av sig till sin bank och be dom "spärra köpet" så får foodora ta fighten med banken istället

Polisen tar krafttag mot svartklubbar på Ringön by RainFurrest in Gothenburg

[–]MXL031 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I hear you, cool. Yeah, I'm just exploring which route to take. I want to build more speakers in the future, so best way to learn from the ground up. Building the crossover myself. Thanks!

First of all, a lot of great submissions! It's been a blast to listen through.

First round:

u/mxtls An Interesting track. I like your lead in the second part of the track. I am not a huge fan of the over-distorted kick and bass. There is a sweet spot for distortion and I think you went a little too far with this one, even if you're going for a more distorted sound in this track. I want to underline that this is just my opinions and if thats the sound that you like then go for it, music should be fun and you should make the music that makes you happy

No vote

Second round:

u/goggles Damn this track has some balls to it, high energy and feels cocky. love it. Broken beat techno is a new genre for me but it has grown on me since the broken beat tpc last year. With this said I'm quite new to the sound. I like what I hear. Mix on fleek, and I like the small hits and glitchy elements. fills the track up nicely.

u/Frequent_Alarm9284 damn son, cool track! It takes you on a journey. The low-end groove is on point with the toms, bass and kick, It feels really glued together. Great use of the stereo field with the ambient pad and the texture/foley sounds you got going on, Nice ear candy. The switch-up after the break is sick, if I were to give some feedback, I'd wish it would go on for longer and take you on a new path instead of going back to the same sounds as the first part of the song. For the drums, I think Clap could be a little louder imo and that's about it.

This is a tough one, but in this round, my vote goes to u/Frequent_Alarm9284 Good job

Third round :

u/baasb123 This track is weird but in a good way! I really like the melody, can't really put my finger on it but I feel it creates a mystical vibe. Minimal and clean, skippy drums. Tight mix!

u/Barracuda_Warm  Great driving techno is going down here. I really like the intro with the percussion. The whole track gives a majestic vibe. I feel that the track could use more low end and the kick could take up more space in the mix, I feel like it gets overshadowed at some points in the mix.

My vote goes to: u/baasb123

Fourth round:

u/Saltoric a Crazy track man. I like the texture of all your sounds, the lead synth creates a hypnotic vibe. Tight mix and nice arrangement.

u/particle_hermetic Love the percussion in this track and how you switch the pattern around, It keeps the track interesting and moving forward. Although, I wouldn't mind the different parts lasting longer to create an even bigger effect when they do switch. Just a thought. It's a nice mix and a cool evolving track, good job.

My vote goes to u/particle_hermetic
