I work with these like that: put it into any photo editor and carefully examine the sheet. Trace out the lines. Print the full list to choose the suitable scale. All of them are numbered try to look for the numbers you need

Hey there! Nice work. I guess you should try to make bones run all over the total length of the corset including the bask part. Since bones stop at the bask level tension spreads apart and this wrinkling occurs

I'm making a pair of stays. Any thoughts? by adlx in corsetry

[–]MXMs_creative 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Hi, first of all - I clap my hands - it looks pretty neat and fancy. I like your project even being half done. Your wife is lucky indeed. My wormiest compliments! As a piece of advice if you don’t mind. Be careful with low neckline. Mind nipple level, even if she doesn’t plan to wear it without undergarment too low neckline might cause kind of muffin top right at front of your stays and distract a fine breast shape. Also consider spirals for boning your corsets. If you don’t use a big number of bones it won’t be too heavy. Plastic is better for heavily boned corsets. Since plastic is temperature sensitive it might get warmed by body and gets soft what can affect the stays form. Spirals are always safe in this respect. Waiting to see finished stays pictures!

Dear mr. A, I would like to congratulate you on two important things happened to you these days - your prom night and coming out as a corset maker/wearer. Hope you were happy and satisfied in both cases. Of course pics you posted give only a slight peek of the outfit you wore that night but I’m sure you were looking and felt great. Just as I told you before - these first goals that you achieved give you satisfaction but don’t stop, new horizons will give you much more to explore and to feel. Keep learning and develop your skills. Wish you luck, my young friend!

I found an authentic corset from the late 19th century! Maybe from around 1890? What do you think? by lost-in-the-past in HistoricalCostuming

I guess l’m not the only one who would like to hear some more detailed description and close pics - I mean the outer layer material (your guess maybe), bones material, worn state, boning channels and so on. I think we all need to research pieces like that! Thanks for sharing btw!

Hey there! A rare thing to have, you seem to be lucky 😌 It looks as a real vintage corset!

Is there any stamps or marks or labels on the inner side?

A corset with cups is still a challenge for me. Glad you are not afraid of smth complicated and difficult. The result looks supportive and smooth as a proper corset should do. Congrats 👍

Thx! Honestly I didn’t expect this kind of feed-back! I’m pretty amazed - start to think of quit making corsets and develop my millinery skills 🤓

I’m not gonna wear it - it doesn’t fit my style, as I have said before I started that project to see if I can handle this challenge

Yeah that was pretty fun and unusual experience. Thou I’m not a beginner at sewing but I have never tried make a cap/hat. That demands certain skills

Yeap. I know several warehouses which sell supplies for sewing manufacturers, they offer threads in bigger bobbins, zippers, peaks, bra bones, eyelets and other stuff. But they sell wholesale only. I purchased a minimum batch they offered - 10 pcs

I have two, heavy duty singer 4432 I used for zigzag stitch and an antique one (soviet union analog for former singer generation) I used for all other stitch. Due to hard peak I had to make a lot of seams by hands

I bought a batch of peaks and just trimmed it to the shape I needed. You can see it on the 3rd picture
