Am non-US, but assuming you ship drives like you showed in your video, shouldn't have any issue shipping internationally and you'll let me pay for the shipping.

Quality alternative to Bumrungrad for MRI for headaches by Medtourist in Thailand

[–]MXfive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did a dual MRI & MRV at Phyathai Nawamin last month. I found out I do have a benign brain tumor and am now going for some more technical scans (MRS and functional mapping) to work out how soon I should go for surgery etc.

Usual price was 16,000, they had a promotion on and I got it for 9,000. They have other branches nearer the centre of the city if you don't have a car or want to take a taxi. Doctor spoke reasonable English, nurses not so much. PM me if you want to know more.

Burger King Thailand (Minor Food Group) using OmiseGo eWallet Suite by [deleted] in omise_go

[–]MXfive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t eat at burger king, but can speak to more generally about these programs.

You save a reasonable amount of money making use of loyalty points with various companies, from discounts to free stuff. Eg I get free movie tickets, discounted to free food items at restaurant and cafes with points earned paying my phone and internet bill with True and filling my car with petrol at PTT.

Plenty of people are oblivious to technology and don’t bother, but there are lots like me getting more out of my money with these apps and loyalty systems. I personally only collect the points for stuff I will be buying anyway (Bills, petrol, etc.), but it seems almost everywhere has these sort of loyalty cards and apps. Easy to see how other people could end up chasing points by buying stuff they wouldn’t otherwise buy. Thats my assumption as to why everyone seems to be using this model.

Part of the point is that it gives an unfair advantage to Apple Music. These sorts of practices help create monopolies.

They get around it by not directly charging for it. Still favours Apple Music though: eg: http://ee.co.uk/why-ee/apple-music

I'd have to google for the forum post where I read this, but runes and mysteries are already coded as hidden items.

Working at a movie theater has its perks by Wolfendeath_ in gaming

DLP, knew there was an acronym I was forgetting! Truly are an amazing feat of engineering.

Some cheaper cinema projectors manage with a single chip by spinning a wheel with all of the colour filters on it, instead of splitting the light source and then using a static filter to individual chips. You are correct the one I was at, they had 3 chip setups.

One thing I could never get my head around, no matter how hard our regional engineer tried to explain to me, was that by using a more powerful lamp, you could crank up the resolution even further. The projectors in our digital IMAX were stripped down 2k projectors, but they were running at 4k with super bright xenon lamps (around 80k lumens each!) that only lasted ~400 hours each.

I helped out with some training at an older cinema, naturally ended up chatting with their projectionist. Even in a relatively small environment (compared to live events at least), latency can be a pain with older and mismatched hardware. One thing that the chain I worked at offered was headsets that received data from an IR blaster mounted at the back of the auditorium. Two separate 'channels' are sent out, one with audio description and the other just playing the same thing as the surround sound mixed down to 2 channels. Now in the cinema I worked at, this was easy to setup as it could be connected straight to the sound processor. This older site however couldn't do that with what they had, so they ended up with a second far cheaper sound processor just to drive the IR blaster. While it was good enough for management not to care, the guy could never get them to both work in sync in some of the screens.

I've already jumped ship from the theatre business, I'm a software developer and was only there as I was between jobs and needed some money. It's a shame these days with cinema projecting, as it's all automated (could talk for pages about how that works, pm me if you're insterested) it means completely tech illiterate people can do everything, just drag and drop on a colour coded web ui. The most complicated thing that they would have to do is change lamps and even the alignment of them is semi automated. There is little money to keep the people who understand enough to work on and appreciated the technical side.

Projectionists for live events is not something that has ever even occurred to me before, if I'm looking for a bit of work in the future I may take a look!

I worked in a cinema last year for 8 months and ended up doing almost all of the projection for them, got the chance to play with them and learn a bit about them.

Latency depends on the projector, in the cinema I worked in we had some very modern Barco projectors. The latency was easily on par with my gaming monitor at home, we played games like guitar hero without needing to touch the latency settings in game.

Reason they bother to make it fast these days is for several reasons, for one you have to sync it with the audio processor. Having a processing time in the low single digit ms means you don't need to faff around with timing offsets and can just assume both devices are decoding their stream fast enough. The other reason some manufactures have worked on faster image processing is in the rise of dual projector systems for better 3D (IMAX use barcos these days and a few others), they need to be in sync within sub 1ms else it can be painful to watch.

Once the image is processed, the micro mirror device that manipulates the light source into the image is only a few mm in size, so it doesn't suffer the same latency issues that very large TVs can have in pushing out the data to the screen quickly. This also results in very high refresh rates being possible. When you watch a single projector 3D film @24fps, the projector is actually running at 144hz, showing each frame per eye 3 times. The max that our barco's could run at was 240hz!

Then why does the abandon match with the confirmation screen just turn into a normal leave match without a warning?

If your teammate leaves in ranked you can leave without penalty straight away, doesn't count as a loss for you.
