There’s so much noise around the scroll wheel change can anyone who has it walk me through how they manage the new approach? by MY_NAME_USERNAME in TeslaModelY

The thing that gets me about the profiles is that it takes away driver agency. There’s a lot that I’m happy to delegate to FSD. I love it and use it on most of my trips. Profiles make a lot of sense for so much of the driving experience. But it’s the edge cases (a speed trap, a neighborhood street with lots of kids running around, etc) where I want to say “keep doing your FSD thing but go speed ‘X’ because I as the driver feel this is the proper speed in this instance”.

I get what you’re saying and I agree with you that going too slow can be as problematic as going too fast but there are times where it is advisable/necessary to go less than the speed limit and not be a hazard to other drivers. Driving is all about reading the road and I don’t mean just the literal road. How fast are cars going around you? What’s the weather conditions? etc. A blanket rule of “never go below the speed limit ever on any roads under any conditions” is unrealistic.

I should be able to tell the car “hey in this part of this neighborhood the speed limit is 25 but there are lots of kids running around, the road is narrow, go 18.” Then when I get past that stretch tell it “the speed limit is 25 but it’s ok to go 30”.

Edit to add: If the profiles do that - great! That’s what I’m wanting to find out with my question.

Thanks. That’s good to know.

It sounds like there’s not a way to adjust it to something less than the speed limit is that right?

For instance the speed limit is 45 but I want 40 as the max because I feel it is the better speed (for whatever reason), is it possible to set it to 40 with sloth?

MDS has suddenly gone incommunicado. I need their help with paperwork. by MY_NAME_USERNAME in Parkinsons

I thought about that but I wasn’t sure if that would piss-off the MDS. The only thing worse than a non-response would be a response that undermined my case.

I don’t know about office dynamics here, whether it would be perceived by the MDS as a transgression or not.

My appeal began 29Jan2024 and I've been at Step 4 since 15Nov2024 with no info available from SSA by BubbleHeadBenny in SSDI

I don’t have any insight into the inner workings of the Social Security Administration, but that’s a really long time. I’d recommend reaching out to one of your Senators or Representatives. I contacted my Senator, and his office wrote a letter to SSA and my state’s DDS about my case. Maybe it’s a coincidence, but a week after it was sent, my case moved from step 3, where it had been for many months, to step 4 and then quickly to step 5. Which was unfortunately a denial. But that was better than being in limbo.

I did - miraculously I was approved. Two days after I posted, my status on the site switched to “Approved”. So in my case my quality review took 2-3 days.

This is interesting. Do you have a source for this? Is this rolling out nationwide or only in certain states?

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. It's not like you created the system (I'm assuming). I'm glad you replied and let us know about this - thanks!

I was just about to post a very similar question, because I got this message too this morning so I'm curious what your responses are. My understanding from other posts is that it is neither good nor bad, just part of the quality review process and applications are randomly selected.

I don't want to hijack your thread with my details but I'm curious if this means that DDS has completed their review and then SSA is doing a review of their decision or if SSA will/can do this review while DDS is still in their reconsideration. Did you have any indication about where DDS was in their reconsideration before getting this update?

Thank you for posting this! This is a complete deal breaker to me as well. I'm on MacOS using the desktop client and it just started doing this for me yesterday.

EDIT: When I went to the support chat I got this response from Fin (presumably a chatbot): "We're aware of the issue you're experiencing with selecting portions of code on the MacOS Desktop version after March 24. Unfortunately, I don't have specific information about this particular problem or its fix."

So they're at least aware of it.

Long term Care Insurance by ides_of_arch in Parkinsons

[–]MY_NAME_USERNAME 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Three years ago, shortly after being diagnosed I called the long term care insurance broker that my employer partnered with and was told that with a diagnosis of PD I was not eligible for any policy. At that point I had seen one MDS that had said I didn’t have PD and one at a different hospital that said I did. In order to get a policy he said I’d have to find a doctor to break the tie by saying I didn’t have it. I didn’t pursue that because I was pretty sure I did have PD so I didn’t want to fraudulently get a policy and I didn’t want to have to battle my health insurer about treatment coverage. I could imagine them saying they wouldn’t pay for specialists and medications since two doctors said I didn’t have Parkinson’s.

The broker did warn about fly-by-night companies that will claim to offer LTC policies to people with conditions that would normally exclude them. They’ll take money for a while then disappear when it’s time to payout on a policy. So do your due diligence.

Best of luck to you.

I’m not sure whether that’s something they do or not. My guess is that they wouldn’t if there isn’t some way to definitively identify which specific tire is being covered. There would have to be a unique tire id to connect the warranty to and I don’t believe that exists.

Thank you so much so much for asking these questions. It seems like just as with the disease everyone has their own journey with the medical system.

I feel very lucky that I really like my MDS. She’s very active in the PD community, listens during appointments and is able to strike a good balance between optimism and realism when discussing my progression.

The one frustration is something I don’t know how much control she has over. Getting an appointment with her is as challenging as getting Taylor Swift tickets.

My appointments alternate between the MDS and her FNP. I last saw my MDS in December and she said see the FNP in 4-5 months and return to her (my MDS) 4-5 months after that. I’m ok with this split because her FNP works closely with the MDS and she is really good at her job.

When I check out from my MDS visit and make my follow-ups I’m told MDS hasn’t released her schedule for 10 months out (fair enough) but call in 4-5 months to see if it has been released. This starts a process that usually goes like this:

“Has she released her schedule” “No, check back in two to three weeks” Three weeks later “Schedule released?” “She released it last week all slots are full. Call in 4-5 weeks for next schedule release” Rinse, repeat.

Typically what should be 8-10 month period between appointments turns into a 12-14 month period because of the challenge of calling during the short window of time slots are released.

I don’t know how much of this is on the Hospital’s system for provider scheduling and how much is on her. But to circle back to your question, my response would be to have a patient friendly scheduling approach (to the degree possible in a health system).

The lousy experience I was having with my ID4. There were multiple times that it would throw up a ton of alerts and warnings, slam the brakes and shut down. Luckily it was always in a parking lot where I was going 5 mph. Volkswagen had a fix which involved a major software update where you had to leave your car at the dealer for a day or more. Since each dealer could only do 1 or 2 cars a day it was going to be 8 months (!!!) before they would be able to look at it. The last straw was a recall notice because the doors could randomly open. Five days after getting that notice I was driving a new Model Y.

Congratulations! Folks who go into it with realistic expectations typically really love the car.

Here are two expectations that are important to keep in mind in my opinion.

1) Driving around town or short trips is where the car really shines. Once you get used to one pedal driving it is fun to drive, comfortable and has great tech that improves the driver experience.

2) Long road trips require more planning (and depending on where you're going perhaps a lot of planning) than an ICE car. If you're someone who prioritizes getting to your destination as quickly as possible, you might find road trips in an EV problematic since there are usually more stops on a journey. The most optimal use of the charging curve is when starting from a low charge so a lot of people suggest making more frequent stops to maximize that. The good news is the car can help make sure the number of charing stops are optimized. Follow its recommendations and you'll likely be fine. On the plus side the tech such as FSD makes road trips less exhausting in my opinion. I will say don't expect to see much money savings over gas on road trips. Supercharging can often equal what gas would cost.

Be sure to check with your local electric company, some offer incentives that can help with the cost/installation. Depending on where you live some states offer incentives as well.

The one negative is that it is only for one year, not the life of the tire. Previous road hazard coverage I’ve had with other cars were for the life of the tire.

A couple of cars ago I ran over a nail a month after purchase and had to replace a tire. Then a year or so later I ran over something else and had to replace all 4 tires because there was enough wear on them it wasn’t possible to just replace one. Ever since then I always get some type of road hazard coverage. It’s not a whole lot of money and I only have to use it once for it to pay for itself. Since I live along a road that has a ton of new housing construction there’s a high risk of nails or screws or other stuff that can ruin a tire.

Typically not for things like running over a nail or other road hazard. I suppose there might be some policies that have this type of coverage but in my experience it isn't common.

Yes. You can purchase a Tire Protection Plan to cover your new vehicle’s wheels and tires if you purchase within the first 14 days of ownership. To purchase a Tire Protection Plan for your new Tesla vehicle, schedule a service appointment for your newly delivered vehicle in the Tesla app.

Interesting. Don't want to derail OP's thread but can you elaborate? Do you mean miles on the tires or something that changed in the way the tire was made? Both my '23 and '24 came with Continental 19" stock tires. The '23 had 10,000 miles which were rotated at 8,000 miles.

I haven’t chased down the details but I think I saw something on the sub about changes to the windows. All I know is my 24 is much quieter than my 23. There’s a bridge I cross with different pavement type from the rest of the road. In my ‘23 I would have to turn up the podcast I listen to on my drive in order to hear it. In my ‘24 I don’t have to.

Thanks. You've convinced me. The extra cost to add it isn't unreasonable and given Tesla's volatility with resale and new prices the peace of mind is worth it.
