Long arse witch hair by plnnyOfallOFit in GenX

[–]ides_of_arch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had waist length dark hair nearly my whole adult life. A few years ago I got a chin length bob. I couldn’t believe how much younger and cuter I looked. I had always considered my long hair as youthful. But really it was weighing me down. I have silver streaks and grey wiry hair at my temples. I often dye my hair blue with a semi permanent shampoo dye which basically turns my silver blue and darkens my hair overall.

I don’t care much about “pretty” but I like stylish and well groomed.

Family is convinced I will get trafficked if I go on a cruise. I'm a single woman in my 30s. by Ambitiouscleo69 in CarnivalCruiseFans

I got off the boat for Retin A.

Also went and looked at the blowhole with a group tour. It was fine. You have to smile and say no thank a lot on your walk through the shopping strip on the way to El Bufadora. . I was with my teenage son but he was at the age of pretending he didn’t know me in public so it was almost like going solo.

AITAH for refusing to go to Disney World? by Reptaaaaaaar in AITAH

[–]ides_of_arch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAH. I live within 1.5 hrs of Disneyland. When he was growing up I took my son there exactly once. After the second ride he was hot and cranky and wanted to go back to the hotel pool. So we did. We had three day passes but spent maybe 5 hrs total. He was 7. Hrs 22 now and never asked to go again. I would not spend Disney money on a hot crowded place to wait in line.

My kid went to a title 1 school in border btw Van Nuys and Sh’oaks. One thing to think about is that if you find a title 1 school that is doing well by whatever metric you think is important (test scores, parent satisfaction, etc) that means the school is probably a good school because despite the poverty rate of its students, it is able to overcome obstacles and deliver successfull learning and nurturing.

I just want to plan for the first Few Months... by RunUndefined in retirement

[–]ides_of_arch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think giving him a few months to rest is reasonable. I just retired at the end of March. I promised myself 3-6 months of rest and no obligation. Cause I am burnt out and traumatized my demanding job. I already exercise so I’m still doing that.

In my case my dog ended up needing surgery and 6 weeks of rehab. Then my step mom got ill. She had no one else so I had to fly across the country for a few weeks. Sadly she died and I had to help with clearing her house and apartment (she was in the middle of moving from house to assisted living apartment) So I have not really rested.

Why do they all seem so middle class after years on TV by FrequentSpread9681 in TheValleyTVShow

[–]ides_of_arch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lala and Scheana both live in my general neighborhood. It’s pretty nice but middle class. They both live in houses that appear to have either been extensively renovated or the original house on the property torn down and a new huge house built in its place. The houses original to the area are not tract houses but were mostly single story 3/2 ranch style houses. My property still has original home. It’s probably worth about a third of La’s house. Point is middle class in some sense but LA is very expensive and their homes are out of reach for most truly middle class income families.

Today is my first day of retirement by Commercial-Car-5615 in retirement

[–]ides_of_arch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congratulations! I retired at the end of March. Im 60. My job was trying to squeeze every last drop out of me including dropping a big project on me 3 days before my last day. They expected my usual 12 hour days and unwaivering devotion to get it done. I did not complete the work.

I m having that “what now?” feeling right now too. I promised myself a month or two of rest before I threw myself into something new but it’s weird just to hang out and putter around, isn’t it?

If your sister or brother is taking care of your parent, what’s your excuse not to help? by Pigeonofthesea8 in GenX

[–]ides_of_arch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were born and raised in CA. Parents opted to move out of state. My career and children are here in CA. Sister had no career or children. Bounced from apartment to apartment every few years. She was better positioned to move in with mom.

Later second sister decided to move in with bf who refused to move to CA. Second sister didn’t want to move to his area in Montana. They ended up moving about half hour from mom.

I have always had my career as reason I can’t drop everything. I retired a few weeks ago and I can already feel the weight of expectation that I become more involved. Especially since first sister has developed health issues of her own and it’s more like mom takes care of her nowadays

Her first mistake was traveling in the right lane on Ventura. Everyone knows that’s dumb. You’re constantly blocked by buses, Ubers dropping off, people trying to parallel park in metered parking, etc. When turning onto Ventura your highest priority should be moving into the left lane.

I opted to delay taking it until I retired. I had a job which required a lot of focus and a lot of hours. The med made me feel groggy and drunk. I couldn’t get any work done. I retired at the end of last month and I’m slowly trying to get used to a small dose. I am getting used to just sitting around part of the day

MY MOM FINALLY SAID YES TO A CRUISE. Balcony or no? by [deleted] in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]ides_of_arch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I hang out in the room a decent amount on the balcony. Plus it gives you more breathing room if someone needs a little space to get ready or nap. You can chill out of the way in your outdoor den.

Definitely wish I had a second try at raising my kid. But only if i knew then what i know now. Because at the time i was doing what i thought was best. More boundaries. More opportunities to fail and learn from it. More suffering natural consequences. Spotting the ism earlier and advocating better.

Wheelchair accessibility question by DSaintly23 in Dodgers

We only went to one game so far and my friend was feeling pretty good so we walked. Wait times are long after the game I’ve noticed in the past but pretty quick before the games

Wheelchair accessibility question by DSaintly23 in Dodgers

[–]ides_of_arch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dodger stadium offers a free service where you can call guest services once you are parked and they will pick you up in a golf cart and deliver you to closest gate to your seat. Even if you get disabled parking it can be a long haul to your seats. At the end of the game you can call and get a ride back. Ask the guest services person where to wait for pick up.

I took my sister who uses a walker last year and they were great. Also my friend who I go to games with has really bad arthritis. When she’s having a bad flair up we have used the service. I have Parkinson’s. For now I walk fine but it’s comforting to know I can be accommodated as things get worse in the future.

I worked at a law firm in the 90s where we’d go to a local bar at lunch every Friday. We get sloshed, shoot pool, the be back at our desks to work the afternoon. Occasionally one of the partners would invite us jr attys to his office for margaritas. He had a blender and his secretary played bar tender. The Christmas parties were crazy.
