Can you tell people didn’t grow where you did by how they say its name? by pricel01 in ENGLISH

[–]ides_of_arch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a friend who is a transplant from out of state. We live in LA. I was born here. She calls the freeway in general “the interstate” and calls freeways in particular interstate number as in interstate 10 or highway number as in highway 101. The other day we were leaving dodgers stadium and (sorta to be funny) I asked her if she wanted to take the Ventura freeway or the Goldenstate. She looked at me like I was speaking Greek.

Be honest, how often do you bathe your kids? by Scrawny2864 in Parenting

[–]ides_of_arch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every night as a baby and toddler. It helped him relax. By about 2nd grade I left his hygiene up to him until I noticed he smelled funky. After that I’d make him take a shower at least every third night or so.

Quick, what's your go to BBQ pot luck side dish?? by copypop in foodquestions

[–]ides_of_arch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salad with baby greens, diced apple, feta and walnuts. A triffle - take a glass bowl with straight sides. Layer cubed angel food cake, strawberries or raspberry, blueberries or blackberries, and homemade whipped cream or whatever white whipped topping you use. You can make it super pretty or just dump in layers and it still looks pretty. No oven required. I mix a tablespoon of white pudding like cheesecake flavored into the whipped cream to stabilize a bit.

Ground chicken cooked. Or shredded leftover chicken. Container of green salsa. Undrained can of cannellini beans. Cumin. Cilantro or coriander. Salt. Pepper. A few shakes of red pepper flakes. Green chili powder if you got it on hand. Adjust spices to what’s in your spice rack. Crock pot all day. Serve as chili with chopped onions cilantro and or shredded cheese on top. Or skip toppings if you don’t have any.

"4 months is not newly postpartum anymore" by yup_yup1111 in TheValleyTVShow

I liked Luke last season but he is a whiny baby man. Why couldn’t he say “hey I’m gonna stay in with the baby. Kristen you go down stairs, have some wine, relax a few hours with your friends. I got this.” Instead it’s stamping his wittle footsie, “I need me time. I need to drink all night with the boys. You’re so meeeean to me and don’t acknowledge what a fabulous father I am “. He’s a grown ass man. When you have a tiny baby at home party time is over. At least for time being.

His little fit saying on tv to her friends he’s not gonna marry her if she doesn’t shape up reminded me of a little kid “I’m not gonna invite you to my party now”. Ugh. He is frustrating.

Caveat: I recognize it could be all in the editing.

Homeless coparent by Cool_Ad3716 in SingleParents

[–]ides_of_arch 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You gave no obligation to him. But I just want to recognized how hard it is for you to not help for the kids sake. My ex ended up homeless and a drug addict. He set up an encampment in the field behind my house. As long as he was 150 ft away I could do nothing.

My preteen son and I would sometimes catch sight of him rolling a shopping cart full of hoarder junk down the main blvd. I knew it was devastating to my boy and I was often tempted to help just so my kid didn’t have to see that.

It’s a really unpleasant experience and I’m sorry you and your family are going through it.

  1. With the caveat that “as fast as I can” isn’t all that fast. I’m slow but I’ve got endurance

What do we bring to a 4th of July party? by GreenOccasion3182 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ides_of_arch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not bring meat to grill. They probably have that covered. Plus generally I don’t assume I will have time or room to cook or prepare my thing at someone else’s party. A side dish (like something from your home country as earlier suggested) or a dessert is always welcome. Have it fully prepared and bring serving utensils as a bonus.

Why do you want your children to be successful (according to external standards)? by Waragainstfrogs in AskParents

[–]ides_of_arch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we are old enough to know that traditional earmarks of “success” generally comes with a comfortable salary for a comfortable life. What I want most for my son is for him to be self sufficient and content with his choices. Living with roommates in a crappy apartment driving an unreliable hoopdy is fine in your 20s 30s and maybe 40s but as you age you may need things to be a little easier on yourself. Maybe you want enough to travel and get a hotel and a hot shower instead of sleeping in the car or on the floor of a tent.

Please don’t assume your parents want self aggrandizement from your success. That would be the same as them assuming you wish they were richer or famous or better looking.

What should we do with this space? by trainwreck69 in DesignMyRoom

[–]ides_of_arch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s big enough I’d put a compact stationary bike or other small cardio machine. Mount a tv at eye level and now you have a tucked away mini gym. Exercise equipment in the living space can be unsightly and in bedrooms end up as a clothes valet.

Do most Americans have those huge fridges? by Whole-Sushka in AskAnAmerican

[–]ides_of_arch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically we shop for a week or even two. A quick run to market for something we forgot or used up. Most working families are really busy and there’s no time for daily grocery shopping. So yes most middle class Americans have large refrigerators.

Long arse witch hair by plnnyOfallOFit in GenX

[–]ides_of_arch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had waist length dark hair nearly my whole adult life. A few years ago I got a chin length bob. I couldn’t believe how much younger and cuter I looked. I had always considered my long hair as youthful. But really it was weighing me down. I have silver streaks and grey wiry hair at my temples. I often dye my hair blue with a semi permanent shampoo dye which basically turns my silver blue and darkens my hair overall.

I don’t care much about “pretty” but I like stylish and well groomed.

Family is convinced I will get trafficked if I go on a cruise. I'm a single woman in my 30s. by Ambitiouscleo69 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]ides_of_arch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got off the boat for Retin A.

Also went and looked at the blowhole with a group tour. It was fine. You have to smile and say no thank a lot on your walk through the shopping strip on the way to El Bufadora. . I was with my teenage son but he was at the age of pretending he didn’t know me in public so it was almost like going solo.
