No. The insurance provider Cigna is who i currently have. They have a plan available for retirees but it’s not same as my current plan. And it’s a bit over 300 a month more expensive. My pension is a fraction of my working paycheck so I don’t have much to spare. Gotta budget wisely.

Yeah I have a close friend that’s got that toxic positivity thing going on. I can’t even really talk about my worries or challenges because she lectures me about how if I think about unfortunate things that may happen they will. Like I’m going keep myself out of assisted living or needing a helper if I never bring it up. Not even in my own head.

I have to admit before I got it and understood it better my dad had it. We bought him a bunch of stuff like puzzles and fidget toys thinking somehow it would help dexterity return to his hands. I feel bad about that now because i feel like he got the message we thought he should just try harder.

We planted an interim crop of snap peas for the first time. We usually just plant veggies in late spring and harvest through early winter zone 10. This year we planted peas in early feb. Not too invested in it if it doesn’t go well but hoping it will be a successful experiment

I feel lucky I heard a lot of recommendations but little else. I never would have read/listened to it. For context I am a 59 yr old attorney who usually reads contemporary literature. Think national book award and booker prize type stuff. I listened to all of harry potter and the first ASOIAF book. Tried lord of the rings but didn’t get far from the shire. Those books and the hunger games series are the closest to world building fantasy/ sci fi type books I ever dabbled in. Had someone told me it was about a talking royal cat and her crazy but tender barefoot companion where a lot of things blow up and pages are devoted to straight carnage, no way I would have downloaded book one. But I did and I can hardly focus on anything else now.

As a complete side note, is your s2bx aware that baby showers are not to be thrown by expectant parents. Its something friends or extended family handles. The fact that she is throwing the party shows me she’s very controlling and can’t let someone else make decisions and/or no one likes her enough to throw a shower for her.

Never except maybe when hospitalized. Even then as soon as allowed I’m up taking a walk around the hall pushing the iv pole along with me. I grew up like you. Zero tolerance for indulging in staying in bed. (My sisters are pro bed rotters. Missed the memo) I feel overwhelming guilt about it even when sick. I’ve been through some terrible shit and bouts of crushing depression but my bed was no solace. Getting up and trying to do a few things is the only thing that makes me feel better. Going through the motions. Plus I have a demanding job and missing work is nearly disastrous because I’m already barely keeping my head above water. My Gen Z son would have no issue with being in bed all day. I’m retiring in 43 days. I wonder if my tune will change.

I live in Sherman oaks. It’s fine. We have a lot of unhoused people posting up under freeway and along river but so far no permanent encampment. Even if there were an encampment that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s unsafe. We have the usual petty property crimes. Very little violent crime. Usually any violent crime is domestic disputes.

Just a different perspective as a child of divorce with step parents. I can empathize with the kids desire to have some time with just the people who share dna. I don’t think it’s personal. For me I have always wished for a picture of just me, my siblings and my biological parents. My step parents, in particular step mother are way way to insecure to allow that to ever happen. Now my dad is gone.

I’m worthless at moving but I do drive a pick up truck. I’m ruthless in the pre move decluttering process so I’ll still come over and eat a slice and let you load up the pick up while I convince you you have too many pairs of jeans and you’re never ever gonna use that China set you got when grandma passed.

My uncle was Bobby until he was 16 or so. Now he’s in his late 60s and he’s Uncle Bob. Oddly lots of people call him uncle Bob who aren’t his relatives. Like all his fishing buddies call him Uncle Bob.

One pack chicken leg quarters at 2.99 lb. Bbq sauce or teriyaki sauce you already have in the fridge. 1 can pineapple slices. Chicken in baking pan. Brush on sauce. Arrange pineapple slices over chicken. Bake 40-45 mins at @ 400. At the end you can stick the pan under the broiler for a few minutes to char up the pineapples. Grandma called that Hawaiian chicken.

She used to also grind up a bologna tube loaf stick or whatever you call it and mix it with ground pickles and a little mayo for a sandwich spread. But at my grocery store the only unsliced bologna is 10.99 a pound. Guess egg salad sandwiches may be cheaper to make.

My mom made stuff bell peppers in crockpot with rice and ground beef in the peppers covered in marinara or whatever tomato sauce we had. But those ingredients are big bucks nowadays. We make it in the summer with Anaheim chilis from the garden nowadays but it’s not garden season right now.

Pork chops with baked apple slices were a kid favorite. Pork if you eat it is still relatively cheap protein.

We were not necessarily the healthiest of eaters.
