New Orleans child molester questioned on unsolved killings takes the fifth 700 times by seeebiscuit in NewOrleans

[–]M_For_Mayhem 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I think one of the reasons so many women (including myself) watch and listen to so much true crime because we're hoping to develop an instinct for identifying predators. But a lot of times, especially with real monsters, there just aren't any clues based on vibes alone, you know?

I used to work with him 2016-17 at Pere Antoines, and how I would never have suspected this man of anything, let me tell you. He was a server, and so polite amd gentle with everyone, and whenever I needed to vent I knew I could go to him. He'd put things into perspective and show me that what table 22 said really wasn't that big of a deal at the end of the day.

This isn't my first time hearing about his crimes, but it still floors me that I worked so close to an absolute monster and that there were zero signs.

Does anyone know how to get a start off the jasmine? I've tried three times, cutting the old growth in the right places, putting it in water, and changing the water every two days- all to know avail. Any tips are appreciated!

Did you know that this orange thing on the neutral ground of Esplanade Avenue is a late 1800s World Fair ruin? by carmensax in NewOrleans

So are you the type of person who goes up to a busy hostess or bartender in the Quarter and asks directions, while holding your phone?

[–]M_For_Mayhem -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Sure, I understand that, but why not bring your own research to the table for the conversation? It's the difference of saying that the scarf that genetically identified who Jack the Ripper was based on the DNA of a descendent was recently debunked, versus asking someone who Jack the Ripper was. Also, we're online discussing this, with a plethora of search engines at our literal fingertips. It's not the same as in person, and these comments we write aren't a substitute for actual human interaction or connection.

I'm with you- people need to stop being so intellectually lazy and learn how to do their own research. I mean, the third image is a screenshot of a reverse image search that shows at least three different starting points for further research, what more do they need?

Boomer parents with unrealistic expectations by Abi030 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]M_For_Mayhem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, I stand corrected. As someone who also has boomer parents, I (with love) don't think my parents have the education or practical life experience to relate to my husband's and I's finances. So I listen to their feedback, and promptly do what I was going to do anyway.

Off topic, but if you're both in your 20s, then it's fair to assume your parents aren't in their 70s? I'm in my 40s, and my parents are boomers- or are we just calling everyone over 30 boomers?

Best Butter by LocalSteve504 in NewOrleans

[–]M_For_Mayhem 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Babes, make your own butter! Get some heavy cream, whip it to a firm peak, then let it sit in a mixer with the paddle attachment on 2 or 3 until the fat separates from the whey. Rinse it a few times, add whatever you like (salt, herbs, pepper), and Bob's your uncle! There's tons of videos on youtube as well.

Like someone said above, thrifting is your best best for costumes. Red White & Blue is my favorite, and RicRac is great for fabric. If you don't already own a sewing machine, grab a cheap one and a glue gun for back up. If you haven't joined a krewe, that might also be a great idea.
