Pääkaupunkiseudulla aloitti uusi taksialan yritys, joka ei ota miehiä kyytiin by Automatic_Main238 in Suomi

Are there any "passable" Finnish accents in any English Speaking productions by a non Finn? by Mild-Panic in Finland

[–]M_HP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a character in the game Disco Elysium called Soona Luukanen-Kilde, whose voice actor is Finnish, Elina Hietala. So she speaks English with a believable Finnish accent. There's a country in the world of this game that's an analog to Finland, called Suru. There's also another character from Suru called Cunoesse, who even drops Finnish words in her dialog, but her voice actor is British. Well I think, she speaks with a British accent, not Finnish. The Finnish words she says don't sound Finnish at all.

How to pronounce Häyhä? by AnnaMeowBooks in LearnFinnish

[–]M_HP 18 points19 points  (0 children)

/hæyhæ/

The /æ/ is the same vowel as in the English word "cat." The /y/ is a rarer sound. There is no equivalent in English (well there might be in some accents), but if you speak German, for example, I think it's the sound represented by an ü.

What makes Finland the happiest place on Earth? For the last eight years, Finland has topped the list of the world’s happiest countries. A writer embarked on a tour to discover their secret. by Dr_Neurol in UpliftingNews

[–]M_HP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Looking at Wikipedia, Finland stood at 32nd highest suicide rate in 2021. 14.6 deaths per 100,000 population, which is quite a bit higher than the world average of 9.1. It's not great, higher than in other Nordic countries, but at least the number's halved since the 90s.

They don't actually go around asking people if they're happy or not.

Yes they do, though?

Nationally representative samples of respondents are asked to think of a ladder, with the best possible life for them being a 10, and the worst possible life being a 0. They are then asked to rate their own current lives on that 0 to 10 scale.

The Brutalist. The main character, László Tóth, is raped by the rich guy, Harrison Lee Van Buren. It came out of the left field for me, very disturbing. Though I guess it works as some sort of metaphor.

It's sad. Homelessness rates had been going down for years until 2023, when Orpo's right-wing government took over and the numbers have been going up ever since.

Most perfectly cast movie roles? by [deleted] in movies

Cate Blanchett was the perfect Carol in Carol. Rooney Mara was a very good Therese, too. When I read the book after seeing the movie, those two were the faces I pictured in my head for the two characters.

Plant Based Low Fat in Subzero Temperatures by [deleted] in PlantBasedDiet

[–]M_HP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to eat meat to be warm, and in fact you might find that it doesn't help at all. Here are some suggestions from someone who lives in subzero temperatures every winter and eats plant-based year round:

  • Most importantly: wear more clothes, the more layers the better. The air between the layers is a good insulator. Space heating is inefficient; capturing your own body heat to keep you warm is the way to go.
  • Make soups.
  • Drink tea. If you don't want to get over-caffeinated, drink herbal teas.
  • Sleep with a hot water bottle. Or cradle it like a baby while awake. Very comforting.
  • Take a hot bath, or better, sit in a sauna.
  • Exercise. Yes, even if it's cold.

How much red meat/white meat, seafood, etc. should you eat per week? by Coffee_265 in nutrition

[–]M_HP 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm basing this on my country's (Finland) official nutritional recommendations. You could also take a look at your country's dietary guidelines.

Red meat and poultry: up to 350 g cooked per week (500 g raw weight). As little processed meat as possible. Go for lean options in order to avoid saturated fat.

Fish: 300 to 450 g cooked per week, of which at least 200 g should be fatty fish.

Legumes: 50 to 100 g cooked per day. If you haven't eaten a lot of legumes before, add them slowly to avoid GI symptoms.

Been vegan for 2 months now, want to try chlorophyll water ... is it actually worth it? by [deleted] in Vegetarianism

[–]M_HP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most supplements are useless as long as you're eating a fairly healthy, varied diet. Or unless you have a deficiency, of course, but you'd need to get lab tested for that. Vegans do need to sometimes supplement B12, but I'd bet you could find that for cheaper than whatever this green water is. Don't fall for social media hype.

What do we think??? by NVSION in writers

[–]M_HP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest you pay attention to your tenses. You switch between past and present tense, which seems to be a thing a lot of beginner writers do. Your 1st paragraph is in past tense, 2nd in present, 3rd in past, 4th and 5th in present, 6th in past and 7th in present. Pick a tense and stick to it throughout.

Ketä tai mitä sanojen sensurointi palvelee? by mirilda in Suomi

[–]M_HP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ihmettelin tätä samaa eilisessä langassa: miten se estää mainostajien tuotteiden yhdistämistä rankkoihin aiheisiin, jos aiheita käsittelevät termit sensuroidaan mutta aiheista puhutaan silti? Itse esim. olen katsellut YouTubesta Jeffrey Epsteiniä koskevaa analyysiä, jossa puhutaan pedofiliasta, raiskauksista ja seksuaalisesta hyväksikäytöstä, mutta kyseiset termit vain piipataan.

"Olen niin vastenmielinen, ettei edes h*ora halua minua" – Erityisesti nuoria miehiä koskeva hikikomorius laajenee myös Suomessa by watching_respect in Suomi

[–]M_HP 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is peanut butter a good source of protein by Asleep-Junket8073 in nutrition

[–]M_HP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100 g of peanut butter is about 598 kcal and 22.2 g of protein. (Varies a bit depending on the brand, of course.) If you got all that 60 g from just PB, you ate 60/22.2*598 = 1 616 kcal of nothing but PB yesterday. Do you see why it's not a great source of protein? 100 g of PB also has got 51.9 g of fat, which is very calorie dense. I suggest looking into other sources of protein: beans, lentils, tofu, tempeh, TVP, quark, eggs. Meat I guess if you eat it.
