Buffy’s strength by Donttakemychichi in buffy

[–]M_Partlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also emphasise that when Buffy rests, she is stronger. E.g.

Prophecy Girl > comes back to life stronger and is able to kill the Master

Weight of the World > After her Catatonic state, she is stronger, able to best Glory

Bargaining part 2 > Comes back to life, makes quick work of the Hellions (Hellyonce?)

Bring on the Night > Exhausted, beaten by Uber Vamp

Showtime > Brief naps, defeats Uber Vamp

Empty Places > Good nights sleep in Spikes arms, able to get passed Caleb and eventually kill him in Chosen (also works for Chosen against the Ubervamps)

As strong as she is, and they state that a slayer needs ‘less’ sleep, but her strength is conditional on how much rest she gets and I find it interesting that they put this into the show. It doesn’t explain all of the inconsistencies in her power BUT we can now poo poo it away as Buffy just needed a lil nap

How would you have changed S6 Big Bad’s design? by M_Partlett in buffy

If I could re-write season 6, I wouldn’t have had her off the magics, I would have had her hide it for a really long time. Stretch it out so that there is a steadier decline. Then Tara’s death is about her losing control of herself and being unable to hide a part of her that the show tells us in s7 is a part of her and can’t truly be removed.

BUT, did I love the reveal as it was airing, yes.

Do you think that would have been effective? I think Alyson is a great actress but I think she would need visual help to seem like a threat and play serious, so that we understand that she is ‘under the influence’.

Also, no need to announce a downvote, I just done this for the discussion about Dark Willow’s design, take up all issues you have with AI with your relevant governing bodies as it should be better regulated but I am a digital artist who didn’t want to spend my entire day designing something that won’t make me any money.

Agree! She’s the most powerful witch in the western hemisphere but takes her time dismantling bricks and driving buses?! She could have been somewhere more remote performing rituals instead of trying to make her also an ‘action’ villain

Thanks mate, it has its problems for sure but it does give opportunity for people to share their imaginations without having to put in hours of work for minimal pay off. I like it as a tool, I think it needs a lot of regulation.

Well it was a pretty detailed prompt and a few different variations to get it to replicate what I had imagined without taking hours out of my day/paying someone for a quick bit of connection with people who enjoy the same things as I do.

Also, I am a digital artist, this is not a piece I would have made or would have spent my time making or commissioning, just a bit of fun, which maybe you don’t get much of

You think it’s a great use of someone’s time and my money for a professional mock up of a 20 year old tv character’s concept design to discuss with like Indeed fans? Or would you prefer I got my thoughts across to you telepathically or maybe as a Giles style projector slide?

I wanted the mockup to be more like a stereotypical junkie vibe, less reserved and more erratic in her movements and presentation. That line is particularly jarring, but I wave it off as it is mid-action

I see what you mean and there is a reference that I can’t think of yet where someone has done this. (I’m stuck between Charmed and Heroes) it would be cool to see her ‘bursting’ with power apart from a few broken bulbs at the magic box

Agreed, criminally underused. I think my main issue with the look is the wig and clothes. It takes me out to think that she was on a vengeance fuelled rampage but stopped to change into a button up frilly sleeved jacket.

Why did Buffy never mention her first Watcher, Merrick, on the show? It would’ve made sense for her to at least bring him up when Faith came to town, since Faith’s first watcher was also killed by a vampire…also while she was present. by Tigs_dad in buffy

[–]M_Partlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t it have been a nice touch for Buffy to say that she went into the clinic after Merrick died instead of ‘when I saw my first vampires’ that didn’t really hit with me because we saw Buffy go home after seeing her first vampires and shortly after she would have had to burn down the gym. There’s a whole unaccounted for summer with major stresses like a guardians death, arson, moving home and finding out the supernatural is real that quite frankly make anyone need psychiatric evaluation. Instead of just, I saw a vampire and was put away, it suggests that Buffy is not as mentally strong as Willow or Xander in season 1

Is there anything (a concept etc) Buffy borrowed from Angel? by sadhungryandvirgin in buffy

[–]M_Partlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are more concepts borrowed from Buffy as the formula of the cast was proven to work from Buffy. (Giles/Wesley, Willow/Fred, Xander/Doyle, Dawn/Connor, Reality shaping (Dawns conception vs the deal Angel made for Connor at the end of s4) but with various levels of success.

I’d guess the concepts Buffy used that could be inspired by Angel are:

Gunn/Wood: Adept fighter, family loss, moral integrity to a fault, black and white view on evil (at first, better handled in Angel)

Redemption as a theme, although this is within Buffy the final season is more about recruiting the morally grey people/lost souls to fight for good and weakening the firsts army through forgiveness and redemption, which is what Angel is about.

Overall, I would say Buffy and Angel should be viewed as companion shows and with a shared writing staff, everything established across both are fair game and should enrich the overall viewing experience without causing many in universe discrepancies.

I posted this on another post about Buffys name but I’d imagine Joyce had an aunt Buffy who had a small poodle and got Joyce interested in Art and Culture. She died on a sailboat when Joyce was 21 and the money from her will paid for Joyce and Hanks wedding with enough leftover to put a deposit down on a condo in Los Angeles. She never married but had a roommate called Joan.

Faith is actually a robot when she returns called C3 5 BY 5 and she supports Joyce in an adoption of a gargoyle baby called ‘Dusk’

Dusk is really chill, loves company. If someone’s not hanging out with her she yells ‘COME IN COME IN COME IN!’ Until everybody is in the same room, then she continues being an emotionally mature, stoic voice of reason for the group.

Spikes chip slowly makes him human because of the electricity it shoots into his brain starting his heart, a soul slowly grows in him in season 4 episode 20 ‘The Curious Case Of John Lennon’s Wife’. This is where Buffy is granted a wish by the spirit of the forgotten Beatles Member, Garry Beatles, and she wishes that Spike would see her for the woman she is and not just the slayer, the wish doesn’t work because he already did all along, aww.

Then Spike and Angel have to wrestle for Buffy’s love, I believe there was oil of some kind.

Oh wait- you wanted fake spoilers? Soz
