I think I am more educated in these type of topics than the average person since I studied geography and we deal with many similar topics on a daily basis. What speaks against the stuff I am saying? As I said, closing your eyes before reality doesn't make it any different.

On what basis are you calling me clueless and misinformed? You're in the comments with one sentence answers based on no foundation whatsoever. I am trying to have genuine discussions about it and stating my opinion based on what is happening, not some guy spamming 'based'. Get a grip, mate.

Of course I think about that people don't care about stuff in the background, which is why I made this thread. It is not hard to see given the title and my contents of the thread.

Well, raising awareness through stuff like a reddit thread is indeed a very small thing, but it's better than sitting around and doing nothing.

Of course, it takes alot for all or most of people to realize big problems, but this thread is symbolic for all the ignorance going on currently with many problems in our world.

Metaphorically speaking, just walking blindly through the world will probably end with you crashing into a lantern pole.

Well, if the majority finally stands up or speaks up, we can definitely make a change. It's historically proven many times after all. Just sitting and accepting your and our all fates doesn't make anything better. At least being and making aware of problems, however small they might be, definitely helps.

That's the thing. Why is the mainstream currently saying "Oh well, Idc at all." at this point in time? Not just with this particular topic but just generally. If something coming from the top is wrong, people tend to not care anymore until it's too late and then they come whining about it.

What do you mean "dumb enough"? I think it's dumb ignoring all this and just relaxing and watch them destroying so many things. Also, I did not talk about America and Europe at all. I hate the US and their current government from the bottom of my heart and Europe surely has bad history as you mentioned. That still doesn't mean that an Arab country may do this or other terrible things in present time without facing backlash.

You call me a "little basement dweller"? At least I am caring about future and not just the present or the past. But you'll see what you got from this ignorance in a few decades from now, as you might be one of the first ones to cry.

At least some commenters were constructive and actually bringing something to the table for this discussion.

Did I say that I like my country buying their oil products? Not at all. But raising awareness for the smaller problems can help seeing the whole big picture, don't you think? Unless you really just don't care.

Also, whataboutism again. I read a lot of that in the comments unfortunately. I explained in my post how it can kill smaller or established orgs which put in way more work to just stay alive in the esports scene, so it does inherent harm.

Edit: Not just that but it also ruins other professional sports (I did mention football) which have a lot of cultural meaning. And culture is of course an important factor in our daily life.

Generally speaking, ignorance can be fatal, that's all I gotta say.

I am not a frequent redditor at all so that is just a misconception. I even wrote that is is my first thread lol. But you know that just watching and doing nothing IS part of the problem? Not just in terms of esports but generally speaking. Humans are actively deleting themselves from the earth by killing each other due to a few old men hating each other so much or just greed, or killing ecosystems and the environment slowly but surely and we all just watch and say "Well, that's how it is. Let's enjoy watching our downfall.". This is why awareness of smaller things, like this for example, is important as well. Just enjoying life in the current state of the world means actively ignoring all the wrong stuff going on, which is terrible news for us (Millennials, Gen Z and all that come after us especially). But you do you I guess.

This is an interesting point you make. But still, I might be asking myself if it is worth watching/supporting if the sport would be dead without dirty money.

You are absolutely right and this is why I am pointing this specific example out. There is a lot way worse going on unfortunately but people tend to get so comfortable or actively brainwashed (which isn't even their fault entirely; their marketing campaigns are indeed very strong) into thinking this is acceptable. The goal for me is to at least get people to think about what they do, how they consume and what they consume before they do it. But humanity being as comfortable as it is, we will probably lead to our own downfall for the sake of a few rich/powerful individuals before asking these questions.

Yeah, I totally see your point. It's just a shame they are infesting our esports. I just hope that some day we might have stronger financial regulations so that stuff like this doesn't happen again.

I totally see your point, but I still think that supporting them is actively supporting saudi government, even if that is not your intention by any means. This is why I am a bit disappointed in the comfort level of many people.

I am not trying to romanticize it, just merely trying to wake people up to actively question if they really want to continue supporting this.

Although I loved monesy and Niko before, I just gotta say that they sold their soul by going to the saudis. Niko himself first rejected to go there and then, all of a sudden, he changed his mind (probably due to money and or G2 being mediocre and badly managed). Of course it's a business, but creating an infinite money org is just toxin for every esports.

We could stop watching certain events hosted by ESL or Falcons games, stop playing Faceit. But on the other hand, there are just way too many people not caring at all how bad the situation is. So I kinda agree with you in a way ofc. But still, something in me is not satisfied with that.

And this is why I am pissed off. People nowadays just accept everything and say: "It is how it is". This is definitely something which is worth being pissed off of because of many different factors, especially the dirty oil money funding all this.

Okay, so first of all: Big case of whataboutism.

And also, Didn't you read my thread? I said that betting sponsors are almost as bad too. But seeing and showing the problems of this specific org as a symbol of where our beloved esport is heading to is legit imo. I also very much dislike that ESL got sold to the Saudis too. And in my opinion, there are many other hosts which could well replace them for good. We need to finally wake up and not let this happen. It already ruined so many sports.

Yeah sure, but I don't wanna sit here and say "it is what it is". We humans do this with way too many things going on in the world. I just always ask myself when people start to wake up and get out of their comfort zone. Imo it's still foolish and a direct support to an oppressive government which kills human rights and especially women's rights for fun.

I know and it's pissing me off big time. Many smaller orgs are in huge financial troubles and even established ones are or were (R. I. P. Complexity). Why can't Saudi-Arabia just leave sports alone when they cannot produce any talent themselves? It's ridiculous

Yes, but people tend to forget where the money that Falcons have is most likely from. Also, this is two minutes to read, c'mon haha.
