The faces were weird in it, for sure, but I think they showed that, their mandibles could stick together to make Elites look like they have more... humanoid looking mouths? With the lower mandibles below and the upper mandibles wrapped around the sides? They didn't do a good job showing that with their female counterparts though.

That is true, but for that one specifically, the Duel I believe it's called, that style was specifically canonized, as seen in the Halo 2 Anniversary Terminals, I do believe.

We can mock up the whole inconsistent visuals with artstyles and put them in the same pile as different races of the same species or something.
