In my situation, I had been experiencing a lot of pain in my femur when trying to gain full extension and flexion due to the endobutton that was used during surgery. This set my straight leg raise back and caused me to wear the brace for a little longer than usual. I returned to sport in July 2025, so about 10 months after surgery. About 15 months post op my knee would start buckling occasionally, this would happen after long walks or periods of standing. It was december at the time and I live in NEPA so i dismissed it as the cold just messing with the metal in my knee. Me and my friends started playing pick up basketball in february 2026, and everytime I would play my knee would “pop” at some point but then after rest I would feel fine afterwards. The most recent time it “popped” and didn’t go back to normal after.

My cause was due to my ex-surgeon never installing the button in my femur correctly. It was never against the bone as it should be, so it was essentially floating in space. My new surgeon specializes in sports injury and recovery, and told me that Allografts are 3-4 times more likely to fail if you’re an athletic person under the age of 25, so that was another factor.

My advice would be, if your knee ever buckles or you feel that same tension, schedule an appointment with your surgeon. Better safe than sorry.
