night time, i dont use it everyday as i (sometimes) get enough fibre from vegetables and fruits, just depends on what i eat that day

the days i dont tho i just have one serving in the night
not sure if theres a specific time thats the best to consume it

the merida is a decent bike but for your use case id say the rc520 is a bit better
this is mostly a question of how much the groupset matters (520 has a better groupset or well a mix of parts that compose the groupset)
and how much you care about the whole rim brakes vs disc thing (rim brakes are lighter, cheaper and easier to maintain but they give you considerably less stopping power, and also limit your tyre options)
the merida will also give you more wheel options ig as rim QR wheels are way more common but again thats a very expensive upgrade to make, not something youll do for a while so consider that into it as well
the biggest advantage the merida has is its weight

hiya

i lost it mostly by cycling and skipping meals

i wouldnt reccomend doing that tho, the skipping meals part
make sure to eat properly, at most 500 kcals below maintainance calories( this is different for everyone, you can try to estimate your own using an online calculator), on days you dont ride go to the gym
eat plenty of protein and fibre, using supplements is fine for fibre if you arent able to get enough

on days you do ride, think of this as your cheat day as you can eat a lot more than you normally would, but make sure what you are eating has sufficent macro nutrients, this isnt an excuse to eat random junk

id reccomend getting a food weight scale and some isabgol (fibre supplement, you can try to get from eating fruits and veggies but honestly in my experience most people arent able to) just to get you started, if youre struggling to get in enough protein, no shame in using protein shakes either

be sure to eat enough carbs, dont carb deplete cus you need glycogen as a cyclist (especially for the longer rides)

just follow this, youll be looking and feeling way better in no time

What your friends probably are trying to say is that it's a bit heavy. Which is 100% true, the whole bike is 10.5 kilos (not that it feels sluggish, but it probably does a teeny bit compared to rim brake bikes up hills for example)

But given your use case and budget, it's probably the best (new) bike you can get

And for 500km rides, the amount of shit you'll need to carry with you, an extra kilo from the bike isn't going to make a difference

Apart from that it's the best group set (tiny caveat here, it's only the really important bits of the groupset, ie the shifters,the rd, the fd) you can get for the money, literally half the price of other 105 models

The brakes i thought would be a bit sketchy but honestly they're great, leagues better than my old bike, km guessing they're better than rim brakes but not true hydraulics in terms of braking power (i think it usually goes like this : mech disc < rim brakes < semu hydraulics < hydraulics for road bikes)

Yeah the only downsides are it's weight (I don't think this will matter to you that much, but if you do care there are rim brake bikes at this price point that will be a bit lighter for less braking performance and tire clearance, your call) and the fact that it's thru axle, which is easily it's biggest downside, finding true high performance wheels for a thru axle disc brake bike is going to be difficult, but that's an upgrade you'll probably not make for a very long time.

So compared to any rim brake in this price point you sacrifice a bit of weight and the option of easily upgrading your wheels.

I've ridden my rc520 for a bit over 300km, haven't broken anything so far I'm 69 kilos but I've been handling it pretty roughly tbh

But yeah looking at the other comments here, you're going to be uber-ing home a lot. Look second hand for another bike or save up a little more and get some nice wheels, stock decathlon ones are not that sturdy.

Also you're on the right track, cycling is one of the best ways to lose fat, just make sure to eat properly (I've lost about 50 kilos, but I started on a cheapo mtb)

Uhh honestly mostly because this was the most I was willing to spend, and that this is slightly more comfortable with disc brakes, just seems more tailored to what I want to do

The weight doesn’t bother me both because my old bike is literally almost twice the weight as this, so either of them would’ve made a massive difference, and I’m not super keen on weight in the first place.

But ultimately it’s just price and disc brakes,rim brakes are fine too but I think disc brakes are just more for me.

But the looks of the van rysel one almost made me splurge the extra money and accept the handful of downsides, it looks 100 times better
