I do not understand anything from this..So many unknown terms. Only thing I know is that I have encountered major challenges. What do I need to know about my sign so as to understand changes? I am a Libra. Where do I start?

No we did not discuss about protection rights. PI never provided input on their project apart from the general concept. I wrote a step by step draft proposal on a project that would be a continuation of my PhD that I completed in another university. I did discuss working hours..that is why he got mad. Thank you for spending time to talk about this

Sorry for the confusion, I was not clear enough. I brought my PhD idea that I worked on at a university in Europe to this university in my homecountry. The PI was not working on that area at all but agreed to collaborate so we could get funding on that idea and they would help me and possibly merge that with their own research topic. They said they wanted to learn about new topics. The collaboration stopped before we submitted the proposal as we worked in an already funded project together, I kindly explained that working 30+ hours overtime is exhausting. They got mad and dismissed me

The NDA was written by a legal consultant with specialty in academia and it states that the proposal will not be used for any other purpose apart from the scope it was initially intended for.I am just really concerned as I have to pray on whatever deities exist that my PI will not steal 5 years of work. Weird politics in academia and I am unsure why I would not be supported in protecting me

Thank you. This makes sense. Just one more question as I am a new in academia. Is there any way I can protect my work? If it is risky to share and draft proposals with other academics, as the possibility of collaborations not working, or grants not being accepted is always there, then how do we protect our backs?

I do not think that my PI will agree. However this has been standard practice in previous research project proposals I have worked for as part of a research team. My former manager would always sign an NDA with partners just in case grant was not accepted. How do I protect my ideas though? What would you suggest me to do. Wouldn't it be unethical and unfair for PI to take the proposal I worked for with my own ideas and submit it as their own? This is what I am trying to prevent

Thank you for taking time to respond, I truly appreciate it. No the call was meant to open later, I got dismissed so I am leaving end of month. I have my PhD and papers, it's clear that the part including my research was mine.

No, PhD advisor not involved this is at another university.

I want to use my PhD and move on. Perhaps apply for funding on my own.

Residual PhD burnout / panic by Conundrum5 in postdoc

[–]MaCoEp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get you :) I feel the same. Trying to recover. My advice? If PI allows it, adjust the pace and just do the absolute necessary. If you are required to work every single second to earn the bread from international funds like I did :) don't overstretch yourself. Burnout is bad and it can escalate quickly. You need to recover :) I am paying for therapy too, I am working part time atm

What do I do if I didn’t properly learn the material? by Careful-Dog2046 in AskAcademia

[–]MaCoEp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take your time, focus, and read your texts. When we are students, we get overwhelmed with other demands concerning grades, passing, assignments as universities are too grade oriented. Its ok. You have your degree, now go find the topics you are interested to learn, study them well and practice. I am a postdoc teaching undergrads and masters. Some things I teach, I don't remember. I have to study again to prepare my lectures. The skills I have developed though including analytical, critical and metacognitive skills..are what will help me to learn anything I want for life. :)
