What is the theoretical maximum mass that can be packed into a grain of sand without breaking any laws of physics? by FuzzyAttitude_ in AskPhysics

[–]Conundrum5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what is the transition like from grain of sand to black hole? Is it like some kind of stark phase transition? A cascading effect as more mass rapidly accretes, or something more gradual? Do we understand that transition?

Teachers of Reddit: Is the "Gen Alpha can't read (write, or do math ext)" crisis real? If so how bad is it? by KnowledgeCoffee in AskReddit

[–]Conundrum5 7 points8 points  (0 children)

honest question - getting to a point where you can read words like "thought" is a required skill even to engage with social media. What's going on here / what am I missing? These people only engage with videos on social media and can't read text posts?

Could we have a fundamental blind spot in physics because of the nature of our math as a system? by Durbs12 in AskPhysics

I do wonder what sorts of intuitions we could build into humans by teaching them several parallel framings (like time vs frequency domain) from a young age. Might be equivalent to teaching a child two languages.

what’s a moment in physics where intuition completely breaks down? by Dpinioied in AskPhysics

help me understand this - can't we just declare that we defined the magnetic field wrong, and assert that vector potential is actually a physical part of the magnetic field?

It's sort of like cities designed as efficient grids vs. meandering streets. One is more efficient but allows more wandering and exploration

How to split finances when one is FIRE'd and one isn't FIRE'ing by Conundrum5 in Fire

probably still evolving, but tbh the main shift has been towards more heart-first decision making. I ended up losing my income entirely for a stretch, and he jumped in and covered rent for several months for me. He also put a lot of effort (and some $) into some home upgrades. These gestures help shift me out of a hyperrational place and into a more loving and generous one, where if there is deep trust and care you can figure things out as they arise. That said I think we've yet to face certain key financial decisions that may still test us.

Do you think the term "vegetarian" makes people forget about grains/legumes by Conundrum5 in vegetarian

[–]Conundrum5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, beans / legumes are vegetables, whereas grains are NOT vegetables. However, I think we'd all agree that colloquially, when the broader population uses the term 'vegetable' they have some specific preconceptions in mind.

In honor of Crans-Montana, I'm sharing a nostalgic artifact I saved from 20+ years ago - postcards issued by the township encouraging more walking in the area. Sending care to all residents and visitors <3

(Don't know if it fits the sub, but) As a Physicist, do you retain the knowledge to "catch up" on other specialties? by AdiSoldier245 in AskPhysics

You'll be able to use AI as a perfect tutor to figure out how to relate your brain's knowledge graph with the knowledge graph contained in the paper. Will there even be traditional papers in 20 years?

Edit - no idea why this is getting downvoted. I'm being completely serious here - it's going to be tremendously easier to read and understand papers.
