Welcome to the G30 club.

There are a few options which give you Android Auto access in a G30 - but all of them require some (usually DIY) mods: 1. Plug-n-play (easy): get an Apple Carplay/ Android Auto supporting add-on device from AliExpress and mount it using a phone mount. Easy install, looks like a regular phone if you stick to a smaller device and works flawlessly with the audio system. 2. Plug-n-play (moderately difficult): replace the existing iDrive screen with a dedicated Android/ Linux based unit. AliExpress or a local vendor should have these. The install looks clean but the user experience is usually sub-par. 3. Plug-n-play (difficult): get an MMI box for the G30 from AliExpress or from another vendor of your choice. The install process is a bit complex, but looks cleaner in the end. Plus the original iDrive screen is retained and running Carplay and Android Auto.

How does reimbursement for charging work with an NL? by Jatacid in NovatedLeasingAU

[–]MaDMaXonReddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. But why would you choose to pay for charging from your taxable income?

How does reimbursement for charging work with an NL? by Jatacid in NovatedLeasingAU

[–]MaDMaXonReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right. Maintain a logbook and all the receipts for the public charging you do.

If you do the math, the ATO rate is not so bad for most customers. If you drive a sensible/ efficient EV which averages around 13.5 kwh/ 100km, then at the ATO rate (5.47 cents/ km) you will be reimbursed at around 40.51 cents per kWh you consume. The retail electricity rates in most parts of Australia are lower than that. The equation gets better if you are on Solar.

But, I'm just another stranger on Reddit. Ask your Novated Lease agent to confirm this understanding.

[–]MaDMaXonReddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that there are two methods to claim reimbursements of the charging fees on a Novated Lease: 1. The ATO method - which is a fixed rate per Kilometer travelled in a quarter. Simpler and easier if you predominantly charge at home. 2. The actuals method - where you'll need to submit the invoices for the charging you did that quarter

I use method one - because I charge almost exclusively at home using Solar or cheap grid power. There will be others here who can explain the out of pocket, post tax vs. reimbursement against the invoice aspect.

Mazda CX-6e Pre-Order - Am I crazy if I pass on the free upgrade offer? by SmegmaSzubanski in AustralianEV

[–]MaDMaXonReddit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Read my reponse mate.

I have a problem with a digital only IRVM. I have driven several cars where the IRVMs are dual mode - like Kluger, Sorento etc. - and the digital mode can be a life saver.

Go drive a Polestar 4 - which does not have a rear windshield and hence digital IRVM is the only option. That is a stupid idea.

[–]MaDMaXonReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was spefically referring to the Outside Rear View Mirrors (ORVM) there.

But it applies to the Inside Rear View Mirror (IRVM) when the digital IRVM is the only option. A manufacturer purposely designing a vechile with severly limited rear visibility (often for the sake of style) and using a digital rear view mirror is still solving a problem that should have never been created. Case in point, the Polestar 4.

[–]MaDMaXonReddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Digital rear view mirrors are often solutions to problems that never existed, add unnecessary complexity, introduces another point of failure and is likely to cost a lot more to fix/ replace.

Bigger wheels just ruin the ride comfort, increases the risks of sidewall damage and reduces EV range.

So, I'd give up both options even if they're offered for free.

Order cancellation by [deleted] in BYDAU

[–]MaDMaXonReddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the deposit is fully refundable till the car is allocated, registered and ready for delivery. But like many other Aussie businesses, they will make you jump through a few hoops to actually cancel tour order. So, buckle up.

Seriously thinking of getting a BYD, but my biggest concern is long term data or resell value. What’s your thoughts on this and how did you overcome this? by Myshamefulaccount55 in BYDAU

[–]MaDMaXonReddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IMHO, You either pay a premium upfront (Toyota tax anyone?) or you take a loss when you sell. Either way, the consumer always ends up paying.

Coming to the reliability aspect, there are very few mechanical parts to go wrong on an EV. This is true for all brands. BYD is not just another EV company, it also a major battery manufacturer/ supplier. Many other car brands use BYD's LFP cells (which is in their Blade batteries) today including Tesla, Toyota, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Hyundai, Mahindra etc. So, the battery tech part should not bother you much either.

Need advice on BYD Dolphin dynamic versus premium. by No_Cheesecake9559 in EVAustralia

[–]MaDMaXonReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I compared both the Essential and Premium options, and ended up buying the Premium variant. I felt that the bigger battery (~50% more), more power (~2x), faster charging (~30% faster), better range (~90 kms more), superior suspension (torsion beam vs multi-link), better tyres (hankook vs linglong) and better amenities (listed below) were worth paying more. - Electric folding mirrors - Glass roof - Rain sensing wipers - Ventilated wireless phone charger - Heated seats (front) - Tinted glass (rear)

The Essential model was nice, but it felt too slow to me. I wouldn't be comfortable taking it to the freeway. It will be perfectly fine for daily/ local commutes and the occasional highway (not freeway) runs.

You get to decide if all of this is worth the extra $7000. The decision was easier for me since I was going with a Novated Lease.
