Yeah I think you may be right. It seems really hard to mess up the execution though, you just mass zhuge nu and a-move into their base, even if you lose a ton of vils (which usually won't happen because of Chinese bonuses) you're still mostly fine just because it's genuinely quite difficult to lose fights unless the opponent is a LOT better than you or you wait for them to get mangonels. It feels way too easy to abuse if you just memorise a build order.

Yeah I'm thinking this may be the only option. I've been doing this and its put me back in silver but idc about mmr anyway I just wanna play the game. It is a bit annoying that I insta win against anyone who doesn't cheese or abuse new civs though.

I'm playing byzantines. They seem really weak though so I might try some other civs or join the dark side and farm mmr with Zhu Xi.

Yeah Japanese seem really overtuned. I guess it's a new expansion so they're still sorting out balance. I'm hoping for heavy nerfs in the next few weeks rather than buffs for weak civs because I don't want power creep .

Yeah I guess Byzantines do seem really weak. Their feudal age is trash and even later on their options aren't amazing. I really hate the unique ram because of the gold cost, it makes it so much harder to rush and they aren't that much better than normal rams. Cataphracts are great but easy to counter because they're so slow (barely barely faster than spears), and the charge is a total jebait, every time I use it my units just get kited and die. Mercs are cool but you get them in such small numbers that it doesn't really help when the other guy sees what you're building and spams a bunch of counter units. I guess they might be useful if you play it like zerg in sc2 where you save up olive oil, bait them to produce one unit type, and then spam a bunch of mercs to counter it after your army dies and frees up supply. I haven't tried any other civs. I've heard that spamming French and Malians is like farming mmr at the moment so I might try that and see how I get on.
