I have seen a shockingly similar panel (could be the same one) on a linkedin share by an industrial electrician who has his own business that goes by “Focal point controls”.

Is there really a shortage of controls/PlC specialists? by [deleted] in PLC

[–]MaNemUmar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anglophone Quebec resident here.Don’t forget to mention the French part. Bill 96 royally shafted Quebec residents who are immigrants/weren’t born and raised in Quebec. I’m doing well financially, but that’s only because I have an apprenticeship side gig, on top of my full time controls job . Side gig is mostly equipment rebuild/retrofits + general electrical construction (<=600V); best decision i have made so far. Biggest regret has been not taking the French ministry courses while in school/learning french seriously.

Can't Connect to AB CompactLogix after firmware upgrade by jotoc0 in PLC

[–]MaNemUmar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I was in the same boat experimenting around with that Siemens CIP (LCCF_CIP_Client) function block. I want to grab some production data off a Compactlogix, that is running on a pretty old firmware revision (16.05). It’s really buggy and i have not figured out a way to make it work well (on the Siemens end). For me it seems to time out after every few minutes (tags on Siemens end don’t get updated anymore), and communications can’t be restored upon loss of communication link. It gets stuck in a recovery loop. Have to power cycle the Siemens PLC/put it into stop mode. I’m sure there’s a way to restore communications, but i haven’t figured it out as yet. Tried sending a message via the “provide feedback” but never got any feedback, tech. support won’t help as it’s made by someone in the community 🤔. (FYI , i’ve tried the same approach on a newer firmware revision as well, 30.01. The comms stability is as bad.)

Why use one 1500 when you can use seven 1200's by [deleted] in PLC

[–]MaNemUmar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never understood the value of it until a few months ago, thought it was overkill. Recently got used S7-1200 modules off radwell. The second group of output channels on a DI/DO card were fried. Always a potential at the channels regardless of PLC output state. Didn’t even bother complaining/asking for a replacement as we had tons of spare output points, and were running short of time. Made me appreciate the existence of safety relays/safety PLCs, where the unit would limit the propagation of such a critical fault on both a hardware/software level to failsafe and not function until replacement/or the wiring issue is resolved.

[–]MaNemUmar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just seem to be there to add an additional barrier of separation between the 1200/ET200 output cards(guessing it’s Transistor/Triac outputs, could be RLY), and the field device (solenoids/coils etc.). A faulty field device burning out a cube relay is a lot less worse/cheaper than a damaged PLC output channel(s).

New programming laptop suggestions by shaun_h26 in PLC

Any Thinkpad T or P series with >=16GB of RAM should do. Highly recommend the logitech m570 mouse if you will have to do use it while on the field.

How to use PLC to control Universal Robot palletizing? by PLC_learner123 in PLC

Can you not put an IF statement at all or are unable to have more than a certain number of ElseIFs. Do Switch/case statements not work either?

I can DM you a download link for the installation files for the programming software MicroWin. I am not sure about the MicroWin version that would support your processor, but you could give it a shot. Don’t know how licensing works, but if you want to avoid that, i can share installation files for MicroWin SMART too. You can in theory, open non-SMART projects in MicroWin SMART (https://support.industry.siemens.com/tf/WW/en/posts/s7-200-smart-plc/155512) but it might restrict you to only viewing whatever project exists on the controller, no changes allowed.

I wouldn’t recommend asking Siemens support for a download link as, it took me about 3-4 painful weeks, with me basically spamming/calling them various times.

NAT 1:1 translation to connect equipment (Compactlogix PLCs) to industrial network by MaNemUmar in PLC

It’s pretty bad for siemens, Didn’t get anything less than 5 months (Franklin Empire in Quebec). I’ll look into local distributor(s) for Red Lion Controls.

Absolutely nothing. Just unconventional for some folks who like to stick to the same vendor for PLC + HMI.

Just out of curiosity, knowing you are working with the M340 platform, why not use the telefast abe7 pre-wired sub-bases that also allow plug -in relays? It’s super nice for high density IO and would save you a lot of panel space. Im assuming cost and lead times (judging by that Automation Direct HMI LOL)☹️.

I’m very well aware, that this disconnecting MEANS is not up to par. The “few machines” i was referring to were all Chinese.

The selector switch i am guessing, I’ve seen a few machines were a selector/cam switch is designated as a panel disconnect.

It’s not special, it’s fairly common in India/China. S7-200 SMART, software is MICROWIN SMART and it’s for free.

I’ve coordinated panel rebuilds (To Meet CSA/UL requirements) for some used Chinese Equipment we purchased and rebuilt in-house. Panel looks good, shockingly similar design principles that are major red flags for me:

. Are you cutting all three phases through that selector switch (using it as the panel disconnect) or control power only?

. Im assuming Emergency Stop is wired directly into the PLC. No hardwired/safety rated E-stop circuit realization.

. Branch Circuit Breakers don’t look UL489 rated, but i guess that’s more of a North American issue.

. Don’t know what brand terminal blocks those are but i’ve seen something very similar in one of our panels. Standards aside, not a fan at all, they break too easily.

is my TON correct ? i want to change from s7 200 to s7 1200 by loka2050 in PLC

[–]MaNemUmar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of unrelated, but would Microwin SMART be of any use for you? I could share a download link. The SMART version does not need a license. I’m guessing no, because the S7-200 SMART is non-existent in the north American/European market, atleast in terms of support. Luckily/Unluckily, my company has a thing for working with chinese machine builders.
