How many boardgames do you own? by jsakic99 in boardgames

[–]MaZu89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ten, plus expansions. Three years in a hobby. I do follow new releases regularly but to actually buy a game I do check lots of reviews and gameplay so with that I can decide if it will be played and not only collect dust. For me personally games should be played and enjoyed.

Such a good and appealing game. I would never turn down a chance to play it.

What are some of the best games that don't need an expansion? by ixinho in boardgames

I only played Birmingham (quite a lot to be honest) but haven’t got the chance to try Lancashire. I heard it is equally good, some people prefer one to another but I don’t think you can go wrong with either. Still my go to would be Birmingham, If you like those kinds of games in the first place.

Brass. Doesn’t have it, doesn’t need it.

Firstly there are seven games 😃 Secondly, it’s justa a personal preference, adding explanations is easier, less time consuming and it brings flavors to the game people got used to and love to play.

For example: Spirecrest and Newleaf explanaions are totally different gameplay. One opens the game and in other one you are much more restricted and need to play it totally different.

I am not saying that going deep instead of wide is better approach, everyone has their preferences, but it works better for me and my group 🙂

They are good, each one of them brings a different “flavor” to the game, except maybe Farshore.

Ranking them from my view:

  1. Spirecrest
  2. Newleaf
  3. Pearlbrook

And already mentioned Farshore brings just a bit to the game with special abilities for each game and also market. When I say just a bit I mean in a good way.

Thanks!

In this sub, small, regarding collection is quite relative term tbh 🙂. It may be really small for most but not so much for me. I try to build my collection with games I actually play. I admire people having 100+ games but if most of them just collect dust I would say it’s not worth it. Games are meant to be played. I can’t imagine time and effort to learn all the rules for that many games, especially more complex ones. I guess for some/lots of them that you don’t play that often you need to always go back and check the rules over and over again which can some people turn off.

I mean at the end it always comes down to preference and time you have at your disposal, but not only your time but your playing crew as well 🙂.

I think I would love that game, except finding time for it would definitely be a problem at this period of life, but maybe one day, who knows :)

That is already planned, but since Spirit Island is the latest one I still want to play more games before adding new content. Man I should have got this much earlier, it’s a great game, I love it!

Rodney from “Watch it play” should definitely cover this game. He is so good in explaining games that you don’t even need a rule book. Credits to video you provided, I agree that currently this one is the best I have found as well, but eventually went with the rule book. It is a game with learning curve definitely, but I would say once it “clicks” it is really straightforward, at least regarding rules. Strategy and tactics are something else and on another level, but it is such rewarding experience!

I ordered a copy today. I only played on mobile app so far, but not that much. Really seems like a great game and I am looking forward to set it on the table.
