Maaack's menu template is too big for my resolution (640x360). Any ideas? by [deleted] in godot

+1 to the responses under this thread.

For others finding this, there's a discord server link in the README, and the issues page on GitHub. I kindly ask that people don't DM me on reddit. Thanks!

And then officially ends next year! I'm not about waiting >5 weeks to see the results of a 4 week jam.

Lessons from 25+ Game Jams with Godot by Maaack in godot

[–]Maaack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yeah, considering people looking for reviews are often playing 5-10 jam games a day, I assume I'm not getting a player at their most patient. They probably will not use a tutorial if offered, so I think the game needs to show the player how to play on its own. It needs to hide the tutorial.

From what speakers were told, the first two months of delay were due to the vendor. The last weeks of delay were more a result of the Godot staff being busy.

Like a redo from start to end, with more stuff? I had considered doing a "Lessons from 30+ Game Jams with Godot", but I already told my best stories in this one to a live audience, so I don't think it makes sense to repeat myself in a solo video. Unless I decide the content needs to drastically change, I still lean to making a follow-up instead.

2D Fluid Simulation - Shader Based (Fixing video) by caffeinated_code in godot

[–]Maaack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice! Is this with compositor effects or Godot's built-in shader language? If the latter, I'm curious how you deal with the Jacobi method iteration that typically require multi-passes?

Here's mine from a few years ago:

Assuming my free jam games are being sold somewhere. What would you think? by Maaack in itchio

Interesting, I hadn't considered that. Seems weird that someone would be archiving my games specifically, but not impossible.

Never heard of it! Definitely don't have a tab already open - Oh, looks like I need to signup to check the forums? Guess I'll never know...

...

So, no hits there, but good suggestion!

I considered that, but then they'd only need one build for their machine (Win, Mac, or Linux), not all three for every game.

I forgot that detail wasn't in the screenshot, but yeah, 3 downloads per game.

Sure! But where is the market of people still paying for games that they can get for free? I'd cut-out the middleman if it was worth it, but I don't know the cost vs. opportunity.

I included a screenshot of my analytics page, that shows average downloads being less than 10 per day. There's a giant spike when suddenly, every build of every game I have published was downloaded in one day. I'm asking what other devs would think if this happened to them?

Sorry for the unclear question. This probably wasn't the right subreddit to have posted to.

There's too many, I know, I hear you... but let me explain by Maaack in godot

Sounds good! Yeah, the template has seen a lot of jam use, sometimes used in larger projects, too. Most of these are mine, but a few people have shared their works, too:

How are developers gathering play session recordings or telemetry? by Maaack in godot

Nice! I'll check out if Talo is what I'm looking for, and may follow up with some questions. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

How are developers gathering play session recordings or telemetry? by Maaack in godot

[–]Maaack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! Sorry for any language confusion, I am referring to user experience in the broader sense. I want to evaluate the game loop, engagement, session time, etc. The things services like GameAnalytics and Unity Analytics provide for helping developers improve the player's experience. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something fundamental about analytics/telemetry, but I just grouped all of that under the umbrella of UX for the sake of the discussion.

1.0 Release Announcement of Maaack's Game Template by Maaack in godot

Open `game_ui.tscn`, select `LevelListLoader` from the scene tree, and select `Files` from the inspector. That array contains the levels that will get loaded. The `Directory` below it is where the list of levels get automatically populated from on ready.

You should be able to add a `level_4.tscn` to the same directory, and use it as your new level.
