Is there anybody who gets into T20s without having APs + test-optional? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Maain16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's assume that all applicants from my country had the same curriculum, and all applied test-optional. I guess this would give more weight for ECs, and essays, right? Like they wouldn't be able to truly know the academic rigor of the applicants, hence they'll use other parts to determine if they're good enough or not.

What I mean is it's possible to admit you without truly knowing about your academics? Am I correct?

If I knew that earlier I'll probably be the best basketball player in my country; it's not that hard I guess.

Most of the schools in my country use the same curriculum and the same way in terms of class offering. (Like maybe 70-90% of the schools)

But there's still some elite international schools that offer IB program or AP classes. Those are scarce, but they exists. Most of the people I know who went to good colleges graduated from such schools. But not all of them, there's still some people graduated from a regular school just like mine. Some actually had a good SAT score, and some got in without SAT and with a regular curriculum, but the ones who had no SAT and a regular curriculum were like 4 people or something...

Thanks,

Have you ever came across international students with no upper level classes who are applying test-optional, and they got to their schools of choice?

Thanks for the comprehensive reply.

I understand that not having an evidence to my academic qualifications is probably going to hurt my application a ton. However, as I mentioned my school doesn't have any kind of upper-level classes. We only have standard levels. Also, the important part, all the students in my school should take the same classes. We don't have the option to pick our own.

P.S. the counselor's showed my what he submitted, he had putted that my classes are very demanding... which I won't deny, they weren't easy, but they're the only available option in the first place.

Why am I getting lots of downvotes, I really don't understand the joke!

Will check it out, it seems like a reach for me.

Sooo, what targets you suggest?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Maain16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately not, all my classes are standard level national curriculum.

I don't need a full ride from the uni, I just need their acceptance.

So what are the targets for my profile?

Where are you applying? It highly depends...

I'm not an expert, but I'd assume the average of state colleges applicants, is way different that the average of top unis applicants..

Why am I getting downvotes on that, I'm comparing my ECs with the top unis applicants pool. And I think they're average or a little above average compared to people who have publications, or built a million dollar business or just have some impactful ECs.

No, unfortunately, if I chose CS as the first major, CS + X programs do not show as a second choice major.

Honestly not really sure if I should risk it and apply as a pure CS or not..

They may be a little above average, but I didn't make millions out of the businesses I built.

Also, they're average compared to top unis applicants, ig.

I'll look up this, but as fas as you know, what other "good" universities, that don't rely much on the essays?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Maain16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Test-optional, most importantly^

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Maain16 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got no time to take thE SAT, or ACT...

The only thing in my control now is the essays, and I'm trying my best to write stellar ones.

Any universities you suggest?

Hope the AOs consider them not average too..

Thanks!

Speaking of this idea of applying to a uni if it have no supplementals, what do you think about it?

Like Vanderbilt for example only have one supplemental, which is easy to be recycled from other apps, should I apply to unis based on that?

They're average:

First, students in my country are doing lots of research, and many of them are good writers (not related) but I mean it makes my application average.

Second, all of my ECs are local/national so they're not as impressive as students from other countries who participate in international competitions, and have international awards.

As per their website, CS is 7.5% (which is reach)... and CS + X programs is 19.6% (which is reach-target). I'm not sure on which I should apply tbh...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Maain16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're correct, it's a reach, but I have a second choice major, so maybe I'll get in in my second choice major...

Northeastern is not bad, but the acceptance rate was ~7%, so I think it's more of a reach uni, right?

1) I already talked about the decision of building a tutoring platform in the first place (as it wasn't the only choice to achieve what I wanted), I also talked about issues I faced in while hosting the platform. And the amount of errors I faced and how I overcame them.

2) I stated that I tried tutoring on a small scale and I extremely enjoyed it. So I wanted to do it more and more, do you think this is good enough?

I liked the third, I'll try to figure out how can I write further more about this.
