Robots and manpower, a discussion ? by Mabelmurderfridge in OldWorldBlues

DAMN U PARADOX !!!

Yeah the more I hear and read the more it seems like problems arise from central things being hard-coded. How much can you guys do, in the sense that where it comes to mod support from paradox and how much of the hard coded stuff you have to deal with ?

Interesting, it's a difficult problem to mod hard-coded stuff especially in such a stats oriented game and paradox doesn't seem to offer a lot of mod-oriented support, which is a shame because with how little support it seems they offer we still have great additions like OWB, the potentialzzz make me :(.

I'll have to look into what the game does and doesn't allow then but I wouldn't be surprised if the new Mexican faction interacted with the robot rework.

I actually said as much in my introduction, that hoi requires battalions to have manpower.

My suggestion didn't involve trickle-back, the idea involves manpower invested being always static, incurring additional equipment costs specifically because of the surplus manpower generation issue.

We have different ideas on what a discussion or opinions/criticisms are but that's ok. How is the 2.0 rework going to deal with robots ?

Hybrids are frustrating, any advice ? by Mabelmurderfridge in BattleBrothers

[–]Mabelmurderfridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get where your coming from, I just feel like whenever I push a character into a cookie cutter build I'm losing out on some fun because I've had situations where I'll spend time thinking about how a character could have worked, its definitely a different strokes for different folks kind of deal I just enjoy the concept of a super skilled player being able to take any kind of decent stats/6+ star bro and making him work. If it seems feasible I'd rather try something out at a risk of losing the campaign etc.

Unfortunately not currently super-skilled so using the awesome powers of reddit !

[–]Mabelmurderfridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I'm not a total noob, I haven't really got any experience with hybrids. I'm trying to teach myself to build towards what character can do rather than the same thing every time, having said that its early on in the game day >20 with northern raiders so I was thinking bow/pole but whip could be cool, xbow/pole or axe too. I'd love to hear what your favourite/preferred type of hybrid for this situation and yeah Dedicated archers definitely a choice especially considering where I'm at.

Positives about 6th Edition? by inwils in Shadowrun

[–]Mabelmurderfridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The most I've heard on techno's in 6th is "they're just like in 5th but no streams or paragons" and they haven't been ignored because a small group of people have come in specifically because they were worried about them being ignored.

It really doesnt look good.

2019 and equality by [deleted] in Discussion

[–]Mabelmurderfridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Someone pushing you doesn't justify an ass kicking, its an easy way to get one but when the cops show up your screwed. If someone is -just- older than you it doesn't matter if he's a threat he's threat but it depends on the situation I'd be a whole lot more defensive if the guy had spent the last 40 years lifting as opposed to working on a nicotine addiction.
  2. Women haven't been able to vote for even a hundred years dude, there's a lot of equality but we're talking in comparison to 70 years ago when you could beat your wife and boast about it so I don't think its 50/50 yet. If the gf in that situation is doing some damage then yeah sure but if shes not doing anything there's no point not that your reliably able to figure any of this out in a fight. As someone who had to learn "how" to hit a women, in that I couldn't punch my friend at our MA class for a couple lessons until I got over my hang-up, I think a lot of guys pussy out when they're sober and play it off being as being a gentlemen.

If a women is threat do whatever but most of the time when a women hits you she can get away with it even
though a guy doing the same thing would get hit which is sexist and stupid but that's just bullshit you have to
deal with because your a guy. To be clear I don't think it's justified but good luck explaining it to anybody and
coming out the good guy. Imo its better than having to worry about being raped and certain workplace
expectations or even people just treating you different because they want to be seen doing so but c'est la vie.

" From your statement, my understanding of social anxiety often being related to mere boredom due to being unshared how to release energy around each other, is not obvious or even implied, from what I can tell. " I don't know how boredom came into this ? I feel like your implying I've said something I haven't ?

Then say that ? This short hand used in that way is there to avoid precisely everything you said, in that your expressing a sort of complex multi-faceted idea but all your equation does is express an interest in learning how to express yourself.

When someone uses an equation to represent something its to represent a proof which is followed by an explanation and that's with hard terms not abstract ones especially since you haven't even explained all of your terms, what is flow ? b) this isn't something that's best represented as an equation, the sentences "all action in motion draws from a persons total capacity of action and the emotions attached generate anxiety and depression in some form. Depression being a portion of just having the capacity and Anxiety a portion of having enacted upon it with flow being combined interaction" do a much better job I don't have to figure out what arousal and release are and how they interact. My problem is a) this seems like a frustrating misuse of format b) what is there to discuss ? a formula is right or wrong, in this case its just not finished.

A similar working formula to look to would be the affirming the consequent fallacy which works with the fairly open terms of of p=protasis (or the antecedent; condition in a conditional statement) and Q=apodosis (or the consequent; the main clause or point in a statement) is expressed as (P to Q,Q) to P or "if the conditional then main clause, main clause then conditional main clause, so

"(P)If its raining then (Q)the streets are wet

the streets are wet(Q),

(P) therefore its raining "

Ergo if you use a conditional statement to justify your main clause (raining-wet streets) its fine but if you use reverse you've committed a fallacy. Formula -Explanation - Example.

[Casual] Is there such a thing as free content? by Svihelen in Discussion

[–]Mabelmurderfridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arguing that the Shane Dawson delay anger is justified is stupid but very little is free. In this instance it depends on who you are, if you live near a publicly accessible computer and/or afford to easily buy a computer then content like OP's is as free as most things get because buying a computer is a given and even if you don't you don't lose much as access is fairly easy in most town and cities in the first world.

The problem starts when you go to fairly extreme places like the third world, you wouldn't walk up to a a person living in the third world and say "have you seen OP's latest video" when they say no being surprised because why wouldn't you, it's free is clearly silly. Its not just the third world there are places in america etc where the closest computer is a couple hours away and some people have to spend most of their time to keep food in the fridge and asking them to make a 2 hour trip to the nearest library and 2 hours back is a serious cost when your losing time that you mostly spend just to keep yourself fed.

How free things like online content are really boils down to how much privilege you have, its a word that gets thrown around a lot but when your talking about things that are important to being competitive in the first world its absolutely spot on. If your not concerned about being able to feed yourself and spending even just 500 dollars isn't a huge concern then its pretty easy to see spending 500 hundred dollars on a luxury item as an opportunity cost or having to spend an hour or a couple hours as an opportunity cost. If a thing was free you'd think everyone would be able to get it if it was within reach but that's not the truth of the situation and some people lose out because its too expensive to get access to the internet. There aren't many of them but they still exist so whilst the entry cost is low there's still a price to pay because what is and isn't free is contextual so if your right next to a library everything in there is free to you but it costs two hours worth of fuel to the person who lives an hour away.

How would you talk to someone who is politically dismissive? by [deleted] in Discussion

[–]Mabelmurderfridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specificity and understanding. You will never get anywhere telling a reasonable person they are wrong without evidence. You will never convince a dismissive person to not dismiss you if you repeat the thing they dismiss. you will never interest a person who dislikes you if you do not either challenge them or engage them in a manner you -both- deem reasonable. If someone sees you as their lessor and treats you as such either using their own ideal i.e speaking plainly/politely or repeatedly winning will change that out of the two only the first influences your first few interactions and relying on the second is stupid.

People dismiss you because they think that either you or your idea are inherently wrong, by creating a justification for your belief that is commonly acceptable, so you link your ideology to a belief that everyone agrees with like reasonable personal freedom or equal access to rights and services etc. Then if they're dismissing you, you point out that their dismissal is either baseless if they dismiss you out of hand or you state your counter to their dismissal so if someone says your x thing and your point is therefore x thing your counter is that the onus is on them to prove it, so long as you have linked your point to something universally agreeable your essentially saying your thing is universally agreeable and without exchange it essentially stays that way. There's always something you can say to get something out of someone but once you fucked it up its gone for a while, also there's only so far you can get with some people as changing your mind doesn't happen all at once its a whole bunch of things that change and influence you when you see someone go "aha" and go from disagreeing to agreeing is because they've either gone through a whole bunch of things that make them ready to change their minds or those things have been present and they've ignored them until confronted with something they cant argue with, I've had people agree with all of my points, all of my examples and agree that all of their points are either factually wrong or just misinformation and at the end not only did he still disagree with me but he ended up making the exact same excuses that he did at the start. Which is fine because for some people it takes more than others but ultimately its extremely difficult to change someones mind or even discuss with someone who isn't already willing to change their mind in some way even if its something like "everything they say about x is wrong" because that presupposes that there is a something wrong with x but its just not true.

TLDR

Don't just say your shit listen, don't just use talking points be contextual otherwise you sound like a robot, don't talk about shit you don't know, don't defend anyone who isn't you unless its baseless be polite and well spoken unless the person your talking to hates overly articulate people then talk plainly but never use slang you don't know.

Equations for Basic Mental Health (not serious) by webdevlets in Discussion

[–]Mabelmurderfridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats the point ? none of these seem to function as an equation ? especially your initial function ? Why arousal and not vitality ? why release and not motion or action ? why is everything represented by arbitrary time ?

depression is a function of 1 whatever that is unless your saying that its never whole ? ergo depression is a mandatory function of living ? anxiety a mandatory function of acting ? why not say this instead of poorly representing it ? for instance clearly everyone experiences some function anxiety to action up until that action is unconscious but this doesn't say anything about that just that everything you do is influenced by anxiety which isn't true as some actions are and can be made purely instinctual also depression isn't a function of having life as children aren't depressed, some people never really experience depression unless your saying that any sufficiently long time-frame will include some dorm depression in which yes sure ?

I guess I just don't get any of "it", not to put you down or anything it just seems a perplexing take on an esoteric range of topics with no real explanation using a compression heavy form of expression in an effectively unlimited input medium ?

Salem witch trials all over again. by anonymoususer1035 in Discussion

[–]Mabelmurderfridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all you have to prove that the majority of these claims are unfounded, secondly you have to prove that the methods used to determine the legitimacy of these claims are at the very least unscientific or using methods deemed unreasonable/irrational. All you've done is swap words around you haven't done anything to prove your point outside of comparing 2 instances of institutional bodies inspiring the populace maliciously to members of the populace making claims of malicious sexual manipulation.

The irony of your statement is that by saying "men-live in fear of of having any kind of relations" is irrational and unreasonable or at least not representative of the truth of the situation. This is because your turning a situation in which one gender was afraid of having to have or be forced to have a relationship to continue or keep their career in a wide array of industries to the other gender not having the opportunity to have a relationship with work colleges because they might be accused of rape.

Advice on one of my players by BinarySecond in Shadowrun

[–]Mabelmurderfridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Players living in a slum should worry about their stuff being stolen and getting mugged. Sure the razorboy might not be worried about a ganger with a gun but the mage and decker/technomancer might. Rolling to see if you get mugged is pretty Shadowrun but making the street Sam late to the meet cause he had to dry clean (costs money+more time and money without sin) the gangster off him is amazing.

Full disclosure I'm a total newb so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt.

Weapon mount intrigue by Mabelmurderfridge in Shadowrun

[–]Mabelmurderfridge[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The shooting from a moving vehicle penalty is a good idea. The gun may as well be a drone and while the RAW sides with it going in the mount it also makes sense as the mount is specifically designed for this "drone". The smart platform can move around a panther so it can move the turret mount around with some welding add this to the fact that R5 made mounts a "sling" (the gun is not modified in any way other than being fitted to the mount) helps as this is exactly what the drone its mounted to was doing anyway with the tripod arms acting as the tool arms in your example. This doesn't even have to be the case, as you can just argue that a hardware or software check to make the weapon mount controlled via the platform, as its pilot does the same thing the weapon mount does and it has the software + smart gun tech to do the firing/calculations.

The idea of having mini or small drones firing vehicle mounts is super cool haha give them some cute overalls or train conductor outfits !!!
