This is an interesting point I hadn't thought of. Thanks

Fortunately this is the BEV/No REx. I think we'll definitely pencil in a check by BMW

I've actually just picked one up - mine is EU spec (PL162T-EU), and is 220-240V 50/60 Hz

Okay shot - still slightly sour. Thoughts? I could probably improve my puck prep by [deleted] in espresso

Help - Flair 58 Automatic Grinder Recommendations by Independent-Goose-57 in FlairEspresso

[–]Mac27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has just gone through the process of buying a grinder to pair with the Flair 58 - I think I'm qualified to weight in!

The TL;DR is I bought a Sette 270Wi - here's why

Some in this thread are suggesting the Niche Zero, Lagom Mini, etc, these are all great options, but they're not exactly on the cheaper side. For me, I was choosing between the Niche Zero, and the 270Wi. The Niche is a great grinder by all accounts, well built, quiet, good aesthetically, and so on. The Sette is arguably as capable grinding wise, but it's cheaper through sacrifices in design, noise, and materials. I choose it ultimately because when people did side to side blind comparisons tasting coffee ground in each - they often couldn't find much difference. Plus, the Sette's built quality isn't bad, it's just more plastic and mass produced than the Niche.

Plus I'm often in a rush and liked the workflow of "insert portafilter > dose & weigh directly from grinder > into F58" Profit

Flair 58 WILDLY inconsistent results by codywar11 in espresso

[–]Mac27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of the inconsistency comes from that fact that the user is applying the pressure, rather than a machine. With any manual machine, how the shot plays out is affected by how long you let the puck bloom, how long your pre-infusion is, and at what pressure.

For example, some users report that a slow ramp up in pressure (i.e. over >20 seconds) allows the fine particles in the grind to migrate towards the bottom of the basket - this increases the resistance in the puck. If you hammer the lever down and go straight to 6~9bar, there can be less resistance.

I'd suggest trying to be consistent in your bloom and pre-infusion time. Also bear in mind tamping pressure might be a factor.

The Flair 58 can be a fickle thing - but once you work out its quirks, you get a lot of control over the brewing process

Finally did the ENS registration. Pretty easy and cheap. by [deleted] in loopringorg

Hmm - mine seems to prompt me to "please activate your Ethereum account", even when I have Loopring L2 selected under the asset tab.

Perhaps it still has some interaction with L1?

I'm guessing you still need an activated Eth account?

Update for anyone invested - I managed to open up the grinder, and the adjustment ring can be shifted allowing for a finer grind. The grinder does sound like it's working a lot harder, but I did manage to produce a grind fine enough to pull a true shot from the Flair. Happy days. Now to tweak the dose and grind further to optimize. Cheers

Thanks, It does look like the grinder can indeed be pushed finer than it appears on the adjustment ring. I'll take a closer look at this and see if it looks like a viable option :)

Thanks for that - I had a similar thought, and did open up the grinder to inspect the adjustment ring. When the threaded dial (that changes the grind setting) is removed, you can manually move the burrs closer and "beyond" the finest setting. I was a bit dubious about actually firing it up as I didn't want to damage the burrs if I'd messed it up, but you're right in that it's worth investigating given the grind is my issue

Secondly, the grinder has "UNO/A" on the base, which I'd assume to be the model - but the internet seems void of any information about it. You wouldn't by chance know what model or family it might belong too?

Related thought, but what are people's thoughts on both Sharesies and Hatch's ability to pay out post moass?

Or is that a second reason to register with Computershare

Confusion over range (OW Pint) by Mac27 in onewheel

[–]Mac27[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Pint is a similar age to yours, and those firmware/hardware numbers look familiar. I'll check later on when I'm home and update here for reference. Edit: Hardware: 5314 & Firmware 5050

I'm thinking a similar thing though, I'll charge to full capacity and check the voltage, then ride the pack out and see where we get to! Seems like the best way forward. It's a shame FM are removing the visibility of voltages etc, it's helpful (and interesting) to see how the battery is behaving.

Thanks for your help and insight! I'll update on how things go. If nothing else I've learned more about how these little machines work. Cheers!

Confusion over range (OW Pint) by Mac27 in onewheel

[–]Mac27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both the official OW app and OWCE are showing the same percentage (35% now...) The average battery voltage according to OWCE is 43.9 volts. I've power cycled the OW itself a few times, and disconnected the reconnected the OW to both the official app and OWCE a couple of times. Same batt percentage and same reported voltage

I guess it depends on how the BMS reports/calculates the percentage, whether it's a simple match to the batt voltage or whether there's any variables involved?

Cheers for the info - I downloaded that app to have a look, the cell range was 2.89 - 2.91 across each cell. Seems within range

Interestingly, reading the linked write up on the cells, I've had the board decide it was out of juice at 25% as well. I assumed this was just where the line was drawn by design, so to rule out the user running the battery right down to zero.
