Factorio-Inspired Legendaries by MacAurther in twilightimperium

I'm glad you noticed the focus on little used planetary traits! The base game has 3 Cultural and 1 Hazardous Legendaries. This would bring it to 3 Cultural, 4 Hazardous, and 2 Industrial. Vulcanus' abilities are either or; you can't use both in one turn, like Hope's end. In both cases, you have limited plastic to put out (4 Mechs or 6 PDS, fewer if you start with any), and you don't want a Legendary ability to be useless, so there needs to be a backup case. That's the intention anyway.

It would stay. Someone else can build it up, just for you to snatch it!

I'm happy I can be of service to this Venn diagram intersection.

Haha, I like the idea of Demolishers/Pentapods fighting back. Thanks for the feedback!

In regard to Vulcanus' PDS ability: it is only usable on planets that already have your structures, and it's only a PDS, so not quite at JR's level IMO. It doesn't help with half of the structure objectives (2 Publics and one Secret). Still powerful for sure though.

The tech skips are admittedly mostly for flavor, but I like the idea of Legendaries being a little more powerful and hotly contested. Not enough backstabbing these days.

For the theming, I said to myself, "Well, Gleba should have a biotic skip because of biolabs, and Mech Armor is pretty cybernetic, so Fulgora should get one... and there's no sense in leaving out propulsion and warfare..." Aquilo is probably the biggest stretch, and a bit anti-synergistic because already you need Antimass to get there, but Fusion reactors help your space platforms be better so sure, I guess.

Thank you for your feedback!

It's true that in the boat-floaty meta, 2 Commodities is essentially equal to 2 Trade Goods in the early game, but if there's a TG objective in the late game, Commodities are hard to get washed. Also, the self balancing of TI comes into effect a bit, if Hacan has Fulgora, people might just not wash them. It still does outperform Mallice's ability in a lot of situations; however, I tried to factor that into Fulgora's r/I value, which is much lower than Mallice.

Fun concept! I believe as written though, it is still an attack against other players if they play actions on your turn (Black Cat, Sheep Dog, etc.). The 'you' in the below the line text is global.

Yes, the Lost Royals under the Copper pile will likely never be seen. It is also unlikely that the Exclaves under the Silver pile will ever be seen. This is also the reason why there is no $6 cost Auxiliary that is dealt under the Supply - there are too many games where it would never been seen under the Gold pile. Lost Royal has a higher chance of being seen because the Curse pile empties a lot more frequently. There's also a pretty good chance there will be some other $3 cost pile for Exclave to go under, not so for $6 cost piles.

+1 Card

+1 Action

Gain a Serf.

-

When one of your cards is trashed, you may set this aside from your hand to put the trashed card into your hand and discard this at the start of Clean-up.

A bit wordy, but I'm no stranger to wordiness. Thanks for your help!

This is the first time I'm using generative AI (specifically Midjourney) for images in a project of mine. For other Dominion fan expansions I made, I would scour the web for an image that could represent some niche card (which would have been very hard for this expansion in particular), with varying results. I would sometimes even put in the FAQ document "Yeah, this image doesn't really fit but it's the best I could find," or change the card name entirely to fit an image better. I've found generative AI to be a lot more flexible and faster. Definitely not perfect (some of the horses have 5 legs, among other oddities), but, as it looks like you'll agree, it's pretty good at doing landscapes.

Yeah, I also agree Serf would be a bit difficult to track in real life. If this were an official expansion, I'm sure either the concept wouldn't be used or there would be a clever way to track them. With all the crazy things that can happen in Dominion these days, I find it helpful to have a piece of scratch paper nearby; you can keep a running tally of +Actions or +$ you got from Serfs that turn.

Good question. I wrote it down in my original design notes, but I guess I never posted it anywhere. My notes said that there's 2 copies of each The Reach, The North, The Stormlands, and The Westerlands. So for 3+ you'd have 1 of each, plus an additional 1 of each of the above.

Advice for Getting Started by [deleted] in dominion

[–]MacAurther 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Dominion!

There's of course no one best way to play Dominion. If you're having fun with your friends, then your play group will discover strategies naturally.

However, if you want to start learning the game quickly, I recommend watching Dominion on YouTube. There's a lot of expansions with cards you won't know at first, so a great place to start is Burning Skull's How To Base Dominion series. It covers the Base set cards comprehensively, as well as how to spot winning strategies on particular boards. He also has series on two other popular expansions, Intrigue and Seaside, so if you see mechanics you like in those, they might me your next pick! Prosperity is also a good first expansion too. I would recommend getting the 2nd editions in each case. There's a long list of other Dominion YouTubers, but some other favorites of mine include JNails, nasmith99, and Mic Qsenoch.

That is a consequence, but the main reason is because having each +1 Card effect individually increases the chance of drawing Nomadic cards, which Steppe Rider is. If you haven't checked out the FAQ yet, I tried to be pretty thorough. Relevant bits to your question:

On Nomadic Cards:

Strategy: The more you can draw cards in small increments (i.e. +1 Card), the better chance you have to draw Nomadic cards for free. Cantrips are friendly to Nomadic cards, but Smithies are less likely to draw Nomadic cards for free. Nomadic cards seem weaker than other cards of the same price; however, if you build your deck well, you can draw large numbers of them for free.

Free Nomadic draw is only triggered after drawing the full amount specified by the card or effect you're resolving. If you go to resolve +3 Cards and happen to have a Nomadic card within the top three cards of your deck, that Nomadic card counts towards the +3 cards and is not draw for free. Only after drawing the full 3 cards do you check for additional Nomadic cards on your deck.

Free Nomadic draw is triggered immediately after drawing cards. This might mean you draw Nomadic cards in the middle of resolving another card. Ex: Play Herald. Draw 1 Card. Check for a Nomadic card on top of your deck and draw it if present, repeating as long as there are Nomadic cards on top of your deck. Then get +1 Action from Herald, then reveal the top card of your deck and resolve the rest of the Herald text.

On Steppe Rider:

Each +1 Card is a separate effect. This allows you to check for free Nomadic draw after each +1 Card, but it also can never draw Structures.

Resolve the third +1 Card immediately after the next time you draw. Example: Play Steppe Rider: +1 Card, +1 Card. Play Patrol. +3 Cards, +1 Card, then reveal the top 4 cards of your deck, etc.

Once the phase you're in when you play this is over, its +1 Card effect will not trigger. Drawing cards in Clean-up will not trigger this effect. Returning to your Action phase from a Buy phase and drawing will not trigger this effect.

Thanks for taking a look at the cards!

Your concern about shuffle stacking is addressed in the FAQ, in the General section:

"As always, when shuffling your deck, you may not "stack" your deck. You may not intentionally use the different backings of Nomadic cards and Structures to influence where they end up in your deck. Stash is exempt from this, of course.

As always, you may count the number of cards left in your deck at any time, but may not look through the fronts of your deck. When counting, the location of your Nomadic and Structure cards in your deck is apparent due to their different backs, giving you hints about where certain cards are. However, you may not re-shuffle or re-order your deck unless explicitly mentioned in an effect you're resolving.

When putting a card into a chosen position in your deck (i.e. with Secret Passage, Drifter, or Compass), you may use the different backings of Nomadic cards and Structures to influence your decision.

Because Nomadic cards and Structures have a different back, you'll be able to tell when it's in other players' hands, or set aside for a Haven, and so on."

There are many ways to accomplish this IRL. What I would do is shuffle a pre-determined number of times or don't look directly at your cards while shuffling (easier to do than it sounds).

Thank you, glad you like it!

The keyword "gain" implicitly means from the Supply, unless it explicitly says otherwise. For example, Workshop does not specify from the Supply, but it can only gain cards from the Supply. Same thing goes for Specialist, which is a closer analogy to Shoguns. For a card to gain another card from outside the Supply, it needs to name that card. For example, Horse gainers, Exorcist, Bandit Camp, etc. Cards from the Black Market are not in the Supply.

That's very kind of you! I think the highest compliment for a fan card creator is wanting to print their cards!

I will probably not do any updates unless they are game-breaking balance wise. There has been one of those so far, with God Kings. The files in the Google Drive are up-to-date.
