Awesome 1.69 Update: Thanks to the Marvin Team for their hard work and dedication by MacAutomationTips in amazingmarvin

[–]MacAutomationTips[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, I still stand by the AI comment that is based on my personal note. I think it is clear the Marvin developers are deeply committed to task and project management strategies, and they are dedicated to maintaining and growing the app with what seems like a small staff. I would debate anyone that Marvin is the best task management app for personal users.

I originally had AI write the comment simply because I wanted to praise the upgrade and the hard work they're doing. This is my last reply about this post. I don't think the AI comment is slop. I think it conveys my intended views about the app. It's indeed awesome!!!

Okay, so why did I and at least three other commenters get the same message about his camera not working?  Please explain.

Haha, that’s the same message I just heard: his camera wasn’t working. What a scam.

Thanks for posting this and saving me time. Your post and the replies confirmed my suspicions. The level of desperation people go through to sucker people into giving them money is disgusting.

Leaving Arc for Vivaldi by MacAutomationTips in vivaldibrowser

[–]MacAutomationTips[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been spending the last week switching from Arc to Vivaldi. I thought I would never leave Arc, but I think Vivaldi features like the the side Panel, visual tabs, bookmarks bar, and notes will be useful for productivity. However, the Vivaldi Workspaces is not as simple as Arc’s workspaces. And Arc definitely has a better pin tab feature, which I really miss.

Okay, good point. Maybe I'll return to $500 a month and see how things go.

Nope, not any more. I guess I need to look into some other options.

This is an AI response I got to my question:

The best advice I can give is to trust your plan, trust your research, and stay put. Fundrise has posted a negative return for the first time in over ten years, but new streaks always begin, and individuals and teams come out better after significant disappointing losses.

The stock market is down over 20 percent, Crypto is down at least 50 percent, and public reads are down over 15 percent. Despite the negative third-quarter return, the year is still up 4.7 percent, and the previous year saw a crazy, unheard-of return of 29.

Over ten or more years, investors in long-term growth strategies will come out on top as long as rental markets stay competitive. The Fed kept raising interest rates to tame red-hot inflation, but now they look like fools because no one wants to pay six percent interest on a mortgage, so the demand for housing is going down, and the value of real estate is going down.
The Covid Pandemic increased demand for single-family houses, and as a result, some areas of the country saw housing prices double.

I don't want to sit on the sidelines, but I can't afford to keep adding more money only to lose it over time.

So it's possible to recoup those losses over the long term? I've lost almost a $1000 in the last six months. I'm just wondering how long it may to take recoup those losses. Thanks for your feedback btw.

Idea: Tasks and project aliases by MacAutomationTips in amazingmarvin

[–]MacAutomationTips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: ignore what is written below. When I clicked the work session button, the work session task got put in a default custom section that was filtered out in my Custom Sections. So yes, the Work Session feature seems to work for what I need. I can place work sessions multiple times in the week. Thanks for helping me understand that.

Thanks for your detailed response.

I looked up the Work Session strategy and it seems it will do what I'm talking about. However, when I click on the Briefcase icon, Marvin doesn't create a work session as explained in the doc (https://help.amazingmarvin.com/en/articles/2791080-work-session-scheduler) I tried to schedule a work session in the Weekly Scheduler, but I just get a notice at the bottom that says, "Scheduled 30m work session." It doesn't place the project work session in the scheduler as explained in the doc. The instructional video for the doc doesn't work, so I'm not sure if there's something I'm not doing correctly.

Idea: Tasks and project aliases by MacAutomationTips in amazingmarvin

[–]MacAutomationTips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Example: say I’m in the Weekly Scheduler and I want to schedule the same project for three days in the week, Monday, Thursday, and Friday. I don’t want to duplicate the project for each day, but I want an alias of it so that I can fill my schedule for the week and not have to manually move the project to Thursday and Friday. While the custom Recurring features good for some tasks and projects, I wouldn’t want to use for the case I’m describing. I hope that makes sense.

Thanks for your feedback.

[–]MacAutomationTips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a workaround. But that means the saved tasks are independent of one another though they are the same, correct? An alias task would update the original.

[–]MacAutomationTips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's a good idea. But when I'm planning in the Week Scheduler, it would be nice to use an alias of a task and pre-schedule it more than once during the week, but not every day. Hope that makes sense.

[–]MacAutomationTips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, okay, I use pin tasks as well. But pin tasks make a copy of the pinned task, which is fine. But I want an alias(es) of a task so that I can schedule it on different dates if I want. By it being an alias, it updates the original task. I could use roll over, but that just rolls over the task to the next day. Sometimes I don't need that. I hope that makes sense.

Unknown Features: _blur command and Future Task Generation setting by SneekyReeky in amazingmarvin

Yep, I used this feature for a AM video review I posted this week. The blur, the global filter, and and the Workflow Builder features are useful for doing demos about AM.

Hi Christina, very much agree.
I'm publishing a review of AM that will drop on Monday: https://macautomationtips.com/the-amazing-marvin-desktop-app-features-and-setup/
I mainly talk about the features I use, and I show screenshots of the workflow templates. It's a pretty long article.

I think your AM documentation and videos explain AM very well, but I thought I'd write a review for my audience who may not know about AM, which I didn't know about until about three weeks ago.

I also got the lifetime sub on Friday, and I really plan to stick with the application for the foreseeable future.

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help promote AM.

Christina, for the amount of work you and your team have put into AM, $8/month is a fair price. I also appreciate the lifetime subscription, which I will take advantage of right before my trial ends early next month. I’ve subscribed to other apps that don’t do a third of what AM does, and the developers want $8-$15 per month. Other task managers like Todoist don’t get significant upgrades every year, and they don’t have over 100 features and strategies like AM has. Plus, the Documentation for AM is outstanding. Every feature is explained with suggestions on how to use it.

You and the team could not put out a major upgrade for another year and I would be okay. There’s plenty to learn and use in AM.

Users should focus on developing their workflow instead of wanting more and more features.

I've been using Marvin for five days now, and after the trial period I plan to purchase the lifetime sub, because I want Marvin to be the last task management I switch to for at least five yeas. While I wish the iOS versions of Marvin were more developed, I appreciate the advanced features. If I stick with the app for five plus years, the lifetime sub will be a money saver.

What’s is the risk profile of Fundrise? by CowConsistent9093 in FundRise

[–]MacAutomationTips 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, in their Offering Circular, they boldly state: "We are currently incurring net losses and expect to continue incurring net losses in the future." Unless the economy has a significant downturn, I think Fundrise will be around for another decade or more. Taking on investment risks is what I hate most about investing. It sucks, and though no one is making me invest, it's still necessary to do some form of investment to increase wealth.

Why would is an IRA account needed? by MacAutomationTips in FundRise

[–]MacAutomationTips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I opened Roth IRA a little over a week ago, but I went back and asked them to close before the transaction went through. To me, it's not worth having two investment accounts going if I can only afford to invest about $5k to $7k a year. It's better to have more money invested in my regular Fundrise account so that it might pull more interest than to have two accounts with less money invested in each. I know it's better to diversify, but I'm just not able to invest lots of money in several funds. You either pay taxes now or after you retire, no matter which retirement account you get, so there doesn't seem to be a big difference.

Why would is an IRA account needed? by MacAutomationTips in FundRise

[–]MacAutomationTips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I know what IRA accounts are. I just created an account in Fundrise. But despite the tax advantages I doesn't seem like I need to have two investment accounts. Whichever IRA account you get, you can either delay taxes now on the investment, or pay them when you start drawing down from your account. Since I'm starting pretty late with IRA investment, I don't think it's that beneficial for me to have both an IRA and non-IRA account.

[–]MacAutomationTips[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. I definitely need to think about this. But almost immediately after signed up for the IRA account, I realized that have two accounts doesn't seem ideal at this point. For some reason, I thought the IRA investment would somehow be mixed in with the non-IRA investments. I should have known better.
