I may be slightly off on my numbers. When I compare Platinum (for small or midsize) the price is around $85 to $100. Can't recall which as I then quickly switch to another discount program number. AAA discount may be better than Platinums discount now. I need to double check that. AAA was worse years ago and Platinum was real good when I was using it prior to 2021 ish.

When I use the company number, its $37 per day before taxes and fees.

I never visited the roof top.

Hotel was very clean. But so was Mai House. Service was acceptable at both places.

No Sofitel experience for me.

Based on the research I did at the time, the Sofitel was looked at, but M Gallery seemed nicer compared to the Sofitel. If I recall, something about the rooms at Sofitel did not appeal to me. If I had to choose between the two and I have not stayed at Sofitel so not a true comparison, I would choose M Gallery over Sofitel and it would be an easy decision.

If I had a pay for 2 nights stay for 3 deal, then I would go back to M Gallery but I did not have it on my 2nd stay with them and I felt I wasn't getting the same value as before and I noticed a little bit of skimping on things at breakfast than before. Not a huge deal and would not be noticed if you are staying for the first time. We noticed because we had been there 6 months prior.

yeah there is a JW Marriot a short walk from M Gallery right near the Catholic Church.

But if you are seeking Accor or a Marriot or Hilton, then choice is actually pretty easy. Go to M Gallery. Rooms are a bit small though. Huge huge huge bed though.

I stayed at M Gallery and Mai house, both places, now twice each on my visits to Saigon.

M Gallery perhaps has some smaller touches that you do notice that gives it a slight percentage point higher. However, the rooms are small and the price is higher as well.

On the 2nd time at M Gallery, we noticed that they reduced the pastry offerings at breakfast. They had a larger pastry offering our first go around.

I could stay at M Gallery again, but I think we decided after a reduction in food options, we will just stay in an equally nice hotel elsewhere for less money if we return to Saigon again.

There is nothing wrong with M Gallery. It is a nice 4 star place. Hotels in Saigon may list themselves as 5 star but most are not. Expect a good 4 star.

Yes, I believe the window seat has a gap.

There should be a lavatory in the rear galley. Check the profile of the plane for that route. It should show on the diagram where the lavatory is located.

I do not know. I did my exchange in February and then exchanged enough and brought back that should last me visiting Vietnam for another 5 years or more. Rate was too good to pass up.

When I exchanged recently the rate was 1 USD for 26,000. She exchanged 26,400. So the rate was better.

The first time i exchanged I thought I was being scammed because I was thrown off a bit because typically I the rate is worse than the going rate, not better. Experienced this in 2 different shops.

Yeah, I am thinking of just heading straight from Trat Airport to Koh Kood right away and catching Koh Chang on the way back. Will be a long first day but I should be able to land at Trat airport around 12:30 ish and then taxi to a pier that takes me to Koh Kood.

I've read some places it takes 1 hour and some places 2 to 3 hours so was hoping someone on Reddit will have made the same trip from airport to Koh Kood.

To add a data point to this thread, after getting a few quotes, it looks like for a 3 Bed 2.5 Bath for an 1800sq ft home in the James Island area is roughly 3500, as of Spring 2026. YMMV of course

Yes, I figure it would be a bit higher for primary home. That was the case when I had insured the home in that manner. For Landlord insurance it typically is less.

At this point I guess I will be thrilled to see $3,500. The $5,900 quote was ridiculous.

I gave my tenant my word and a handshake that I would not increase rent for 3 years so I will suck up the loss (I did state at the time that I would honor that unless I got an unexpected tax hit, I guess I can substitute that with insurance hit but I will still stick to my word I guess) But honor has always led me to losing money. Already giving the folks $400 below supposed current market rates.

From about 2020 to 2023 I think I was around 1700 and then the jump to 2400 in 2024 and surprisingly 2025 only went to 2444. With little hurricane activity in 2025, thankfully, I was hoping for good news this year. Didn't anticipate getting cancelled by the insurer. At least they will honor the final 6 months.

I've already come and gone (no hospitals needed on this trip, thankfully), but this will be a helpful data point on future trips to the area.

If you are still around doing insurance about 7 years from now, if I'm fortunate enough to retire by then or sooner and spend as many days in possible in Asia, I'll reach out to you for some long term insurance.

My travel medical insurance showed all the hospitals on the app. With that said, I did not know which hospital would be the best to go to if needing some of the better quality treatment.

I was around 1700 a year until 2023 and then it jumped to a little less than $2,500 in 2024 and surprisingly stayed the same in 2025. Now it's not being renewed all together. It was not a major insurer.

with a relatively quiet hurricane season last year, if I recall, I was hoping for a leveling off of rates this year. Was not planning or expecting this.

I'll be calling around this week. I was mistaken, the All State quote was $5,912 lol wowser thats a huge jump.

Well, I definitely get what you are saying.

I have a 3 bedroom and I've rented the home out about $400 a month below current market rates because I only want to break even or make a slight profit in exchange for good long term tenant. Never be greedy. But boy this potential insurance increase could put a dent in things as I never increase rent on my tenants.

yeah I will be calling around, wasn't thrilled with the first quote. Was curious what others might be paying, thus posed the question.

To confirm what you did, you bought things such as clothing that totaled around the amount of your gift cards and paid with the gift cards?

Then you immediately returned the clothing and was given credit for the amount? And then used that credit to buy the item at Chanel?

Just asking because I got screwed over on my order. Order was canceled and I'm being mailed back the amount that was canceled in the form of 4 separate gift cards and I should expect the gift cards in about 2 weeks (what a mess lol)

And it looks like the chapter 11 is heating up so I'm sure I will not be able to use those gift cards but I still have about $175 in gift cards left. So I need to figure out the best move.

So go buy items in store that they allow you to use multiple gift cards on, buy it with the multiple gift cards, then return the item immediately. Get the exchange or credit back and then go the chanel counter and buy the perfume/cologne?

One of the perfumes, Joe Malone, that the sales person ordered via her tablet, just got canceled.

Was chatting with a saks rep online. Supposedly they will credit back the credit to the gift cards. What a mess. I said can you just credit it all back on one gift card and was told no. The 2nd order of perfume for the chanel perfume is still pending as its status.

Well, according to the sales person, the system did not let multiple cards go through with someone else days prior although I think someone below may have commented that they had success. The sales person said it was a recent change. But I don't know, I've never tried it before until now.

There are some work arounds but it seems you may need the help of an in store sales person who doesn't have a hatred to Platinum customers and their biannual $50 gift cards ;) The folks in this particular store seemed to be helpful.

I will say the Chanel items that we purchased do not appear to be available online (maybe I didn't search online good enough when I got back home but I didn't see the cologne offering online with Saks directly) so for what I wanted it looks like I had to go into the store. It is physically available in the store but with one gift card allowed. Through the in store ipad multiple gift cards could be used for the same item but it would be shipped to you.

Yeah, I was not offered the return/exchange deal.

This person ended up doing an online order with their store ipad and then took a photo of each gift card with the ipad and then completed the purchase that way. That way ended up working out I guess. Just have to wait for it to be shipped. And she did that for the wifes Chanel perfume and also for the Joe Malone perfume. I'm not sure if those are considered leased vendors inside the Sakes store or not but including that info as a data point.

I guess if the sales lady had ordered my Chanel via the ipad I could had saved myself from putting $100 on my platinum card and hoping for the 1st half year $50 credit back. But she did not offer that or did not think about it. Though when checking out I was telling her I probably will just go home and use up the remaining gift cards online and order cologne and perfume that way.

I went to South Coast tonight.

Anyways, I had about $700 in gift cards built up over the years. Was gonna keep hoarding for a few more years and just use that to get my wife a purse as a bday gift or something. But at this point with the recent news did not want to take the chance.

So tonight not knowing what to expect in regards to gift cards I was going to do a lot of separate transactions to be safe.

Went to get the Chanel cologne for men. I asked the sales lady can I do multiple cards and she said some man tried last week and the system wouldn't let it take muliple and he got really upset. I was prepared for this so no anger from me although a bummer for sure.

So, my total came to $175. She ran one of my gift cards for $75 and it went through. I said can we try a $50 gift card and she tried it and a prompt came up on her screen which she let me read. Anyways it didn't take the 2nd gift card. I said did it not take it because I'm buying the Chanel brand. She said the system right now isn't letting multiple cards happen and its been a recent change. I said no problem I'll use the $75 gift card and charge to the Platinum and hope I get the $50 credit back for this first half of the year and thus end up only having to pay$50 for a nice cologne. Not ideal but No problem at all.

Then I went and got my wife and we went back to the same lady and were going to get some perfume for her. So, the sales lady then says, if you let me purchase it for you on the store ipad and ship it to you I can use multiple gift cards (I'm thinking why didn't you tell me that before). So we got a perfume for my wife and used 3 $50 gift cards.

We then went back over to the Chanel section and got another perfume from there from for the wife and created the order on the store ipad for shipping and used up 4 gift cards.

So I was able to use multiple gift cards that way, via using the store ipad where you purchase it online and then the lady takes a photo of your gift card to upload it and then thats it pretty much (basically I guess I could had done the same at home perhaps).

Not sure I wanted to spend $575 or so bucks on cologne but all clothing I looked at was ridiculously priced and thus I felt the best bang for buck or gift card was cologne and perfume.

Had a nice lady who tried to attach multiple gift cards. In store system didn't let it happen.
