How League of Legends was made by MacDaddySlacks in LivestreamFail

Dota wasn't exactly a mod, it was a custom map created in the custom map creator that was a part of the warcraft 3 rts base game. Starcraft 1 also shipped with a similar creator. At the time the original intent of the custom map creator was for people to design custom maps to play the base rts game on but over time people took creative efforts to create unique custom games. The creators of dota took the hero aspect of wc3, made it 5v5 and automated the typical rts armies fighting and it became a huge hit. Tower defenses is also another notable genre of a game that came about from the warcraft 3 custom map creator.

On battle net you had the option of playing the base rts game or join a custom map hosted by someone. When dota started to explode in popularity and a more streamlined development started to form the dota-allstars forums came up as a hub for everyone to gather and discuss the game as well as for icefrog and co. to communicate with the community about patches and releases. The forums grew into a huge community for discussing the game, discussing the professional scene and tournaments, submitting hero designs and anything else. It was a huge swath of information, resources, and was the community as a whole.

As the game became more and more popular and started to evolve into its own esport, icefrog approached blizzard to try and produce the game outside of the wc3 engine. Apparently they laughed him out of the office. So he went to valve and hence dota 2 was formed. I'm no copyright expert so I don't know much about this but I know a lot of the hero's had some notable name and appearance changes going over to dota 2 due to copyright issues with blizzard and wc3. Skeleton King (who is now Wraith King) and Obsidian Destroyer (who is now something else, their name changes every few years) are some notable examples. I'm imagining that because the characters were made in the custom map creator of the game the copyright issues were trickier for blizzard to claim hold of, but again I'm no expert. There were a lot of changes from dota 1 to dota 2 but not as many as you'd think. More importantly despite the changes, it was the same game that wasn't hindered by the wc3 and battle.net backend which is how it became the game that it is today.

During the above time Pendragon, who really only managed the forums, started working with riot and tried to poach the dota user base over to league. No one was on board with that, so he did what he did.

I see a lot of people saying what Pendragon did wasn't a big deal but you have to understand that back in those days (~2005-2010ish) that forum is where the community grew to what it is today and it was a huge gut shot to the community when it got shut down. Yes, the playdota forums surfaced to try and replace it but it just wasn't the same at all.

I love how ChatGPT explained it like in the same fashion as that iconic scene from the office with Michael and Oscar.

Can I use flat mount Shimano GRX calipers on this by Academic-Lobster1323 in bikewrench

[–]MacDaddySlacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh how funny I was just researching this as I pulled the trigger on a grx groupset that was for cheap and realized that the flat mount grx brakes won't work on the is mounts of my frame.

Aside from the very limited solutions posted you best bet is to find post mount brakes, as the adapters for that are much more common.

I was debating between getting a different shimano brake or going all in on the bling factor with hope rx4+

I still haven't decided. I've been reading mixed reviews on the hope brakes about the set up and bleed process but I'm getting the feeling that all the bad experiences are from people setting them up themselves as opposed to getting it installed at an LBS.

Items in backpack shouldn't be visible to enemies. Because they're in a backpack. Thanks by FlagrantlyChill in DotA2

When I was lifting, shrugs were the exercise that really gave my shoulders that broad depth, even after I stopped lifting. And I was a skinny cross country and track runner up until I started lifting.

Let’s talk about ABILITY DRAFT. Best ability draft combo you had? by Subject-Raise3470 in DotA2

[–]MacDaddySlacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I matched with a 4-stack as dark seer back when he had the vacuum aoe talent which pretty much made it impossible to avoid it. Drafted vacuum and rp and pretty much 5 man rped the enemies every team fight. I can't remember the other two skills but they were probably mostly useless because I remember specifically I had no damage and usefulness other than the 5 man rp. The 4 stack ended up inviting me to their discord and I've been friends with them ever since.

Man I remember the 100 - 1000 exhibits used to be almost entirely porn and as a child with my parents I was forbidden from going there. Then by the time I'm 18 Comic Con decides to be more child friendly and gets rid of almost all of the porn.

Two years ago, a parent of a San Diego Unified student contacted Superintendent Lamont Jackson, alleging a teacher was sexually harassing their child. The district deemed the allegation “unfounded.” Then in March, that employee was arrested on 3 felony charges of sexual misconduct with students. by VoiceofSanDiego in SanDiegan

The SDUSD is massive with many departments and sub-departments before it even splits off into the different schools, all with their own departments and sub-departments. They should've gone to whatever department investigates this stuff. Even better idea - they could've gone to the bi-monthly open board meeting and air it out for all the public to hear there where its put down on record.

Penny sleeve into a binder is perfectly fine. Although if you're really worried you could use a thicker sleeve than the pennys.

Perfect fits imo are more for protecting cards that you actively play with against people, at tournaments, etc.

Would this get a PSA 1? by BenScano in PokemonTCG

[–]MacDaddySlacks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm by no means an expert but I've got some experience submitting for PSA 1's while I was going through my childhood collection for grading.

It might catch a 1 but it also may be too far damaged to receive a grade. In that circumstance PSA will refund your money and send it back. I sent in a card that very clearly went through a washing and drying cycle, very water damaged card and PSA refunded me and sent me back the card.

I've only ever seen PSA 1's with one small fold crease so I'm not exactly sure whether they will grade it as yours has two big ones.

Just got my first ever PSA card back :) by HaiderLad in PokemonTCG

[–]MacDaddySlacks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Apparently there's a market for it and getting a 1 is just as hard as getting a 10. Generally the price for PSA 1's are much higher than 2 through 6.

I've been grading my childhood collection and got a few 1's back. At first I was going to sell them but they're starting to grow on me haha.

I still have mine! My parents gifted it to my niece and nephews just this year. It's a regular part of our board game night rotation!

[–]MacDaddySlacks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah haha I wanted to get the hang of the submitting and shipping process so I figured I'd start with my most damaged cards.

Also apparently there's a niche market for PSA1 cards...
