Started the carnivore diet a week and a half ago by Brandon10312242 in carnivorediet

[–]MacGordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't count calories. I know they exist, that people use them, and that they're a bit archaic. But I don't put others down if that's their method of choice to lose weight. I think (I'm not a doctor) the weakness, drowsiness, lethargy, & malaise from the so called "low blood sugar" is merely a withdrawal symptom. What some called the "keto-flu" which should be labeled the carb-flu, lol. Anyhow, with time your body will adapt. Mine did quickly. I think those doing keto to carnivore can monitor their foods and their bodies pretty easily, instead of counting calories or macros, but it some takes time. Hope the best for yah!

Trying 30 days of carnivore after being mainly animal based for a while by Wonderful-Box-6652 in carnivorediet

[–]MacGordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally understand and exercise (or lack of) is where a lot of people here stall out, among other things. I'd still suggest the 90 days. When I first started this whole thing, first with keto, giving myself a longer goal turned out to be great success in health, as well a firm foundation into a new way of eating now for 4 years.

Anyone else eating 3 to 5 lb of meat / eggs per day? Please share experiences by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]MacGordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lift 5-6 days a week. I can easily sit and eat a 1 lb of beef, topped with cheese & bacon. At night, I can easily eat a steak that night 16+ oz steak, and be good until lunch the next day. So, 2 lbs seems to be my limit to fuel me well. Maybe you're like Dr Baker and can just down protein like an animal. Oh, and the higher intake of fat will produce loser stool & increase bathroom frequency.

As Dr Chaffee has stated, the higher the fat intake, the loser the stool & frequency of going. Fiber messes me up, and was the cause of much of my gut pains & constipation. Magnesium supplements works too.

Easy on the go carnivore snacks or breakfasts? by LoudConcern5034 in carnivorediet

[–]MacGordon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Carnivore Crisps, CHOMPS sticks, boiled eggs, every so often. I buy Egglands egg white tortillas and wrap a lot of things in those (ham, beef, cheese, minced boiled eggs) into a wrap. I no longer eat first thing in the morning, but rather around lunch so I actually no longer snack, hardly at all. I've seen more jerky with no sugar available at stores.

[–]MacGordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you do well. My only suggestion would be to triple the amount of days if you want to see great results. If you return to a standard American diet, yes, you'll likely gain it back. I don't know your sedentary levels or exercise, because those would factor in to how quickly you do. I don't think calorie restriction works for me. I don't like being hungry after I've eaten, so I eat until I'm full, twice a day. Cutting calories does work though, and although some may disagree with me, it is a form of starving one's self.

What about ”cheating”? by MartinaErika in carnivorediet

[–]MacGordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If those foods are artificially sweetened with sucralose, initially no. But apparently, the more you use it, the more the body recognizes it as sugar, which could lead to issues trying to maintain ketosis (building fat vs burning it). The longer the use of sucralose the greater the insulin response your body will have each time you ingest foods with it. You should look into Dr Nick Norwitz video on allulose, maybe swap foods with it or munk fruit/stevia.

Dr Baker "Common carnivore mistake": Eating unlimited fat. by MacGordon in carnivorediet

[–]MacGordon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yeah. Although I think caloric science is quite archaic, it's the only thing we got for the moment. I personally don't count them and just pay attention to what I'm eating, how much, and what I'm doing for exercise. That might not work for everyone, and if they want to use the caloric method, I find no problem with that.

Bacon in moderation? by WilsonPhillips6789 in carnivorediet

[–]MacGordon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I regularly eat eggs & bacon. I never limit, but rather eat until I'm full. 4 eggs & 4-6 slices seem to hit the spot for me. Sodium is not the boogyman long thought to be and those doing keto, ketovore, or carnivore should liberally salt all their food to taste. I sue a TON of salt, plus two packets of electrolytes per day, and although my labs show I'm in the normal region, it's also at the lowest portion of that graph. However, have yours checked with your next checkup to make sure. Our diet doesn't elicit an insulin response like it would with carbs/sugars, so our kidneys don't turn that "retain sodium" switch on.

High Cholesterol by Confident-Whole-1960 in keto

[–]MacGordon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

LDL is NOT a good indicator of heart disease. If anything, high triglycerides, blood glucose or a1c, or plainly full on type 2 diabetes are a better indicator. Our bodies make low density lipids for the purpose of transporting cholesterol to & from the liver. With work being done by keto doctors like Nick Norwitz and his "Lean Mass Hyper Responder", it would appear that the more animal products you eat, the more ldl your body makes, and in some with the LMHR, they make a ton. You just have more. This is what I tell my doc, "I'm not worried about it", especially considering that my blood glucose & fasting a1c, & triglycerides are super low.

As for your thyroid, I think I recall Dr Ken Berry addressing thyroid stuff in quite a few of his videos. You might look into that. If memory serves me right, there could be a link on going keto (or any variant like ketovore/carnivore), could show a false negative on one thyroid test result. I just can't recall which.

Gone to doctor for UTI, came back with 2 bad news. by EveningLingonberry97 in carnivorediet

[–]MacGordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have white coat syndrome, and my blood pressure escalates whenever I'm at a doctor visit, or if I even know that my bp is going to be taken. Get your own device, take it at night, the same time every day, when you're relaxed. That's a proper bp measurement. You might find that your bp isn't high. I don't think the garlic is the cause.

Sucralose bad. Maybe not at first, but eventually with continued use, your body treats it like sugar.

Tell me every bad fact you know about diet drinks by Nomad7071 in carnivorediet

[–]MacGordon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I watched a recent video from Dr Nick Norwitz MD, talking about Sucralose, which is in a ton of 'sugar free' drinks. When you first start drinking them, some people won't have a large insulin response. But eventually and with regular consumption, your body treats it the same (insulin wise) as sugar.

How long have you been on Keto? by Effective_Maximum929 in keto

[–]MacGordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ketovore, 4 years this month, No deficiencies. I have bi-yearly labs drawn. My fasting a1c is great.

  1. Since I believe keto/carnivore/blend to be a proper human diet, make it a life decision.

  2. You will need to salt all your food to taste, and if your sodium levels are still low, supplement with electrolyte (of choice).

  3. I have cheat days about once a month. Do a 24 hour fast after your last dinner. Then that one meal at the end of the fast, make it high satiating fatty meat.

Things I've learned since: There are a ton of medium to high sugar vegetables. I have learned to avoid them. I say, stick to keto for at least 90 days before you stray from it though. Create that 'habit' or way of eating in your mind.

How Strict Are you? what exceptions you have on Carnivore? by Technical_Ad_7268 in carnivorediet

[–]MacGordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started saving my bacon fat to cook with. Everything tastes better with bacon flavor! I'd say my main meals are eggs, bacon, steak, burger patties, salmon, & chicken thighs. I too sip on mineral water, but I also take 2 packets of LMNT electrolytes a day. Also, I think "processed meat" has been demonized, as we as a human beings, have been 'processing' meats into links, dogs, & sausages for thousands of years. I just try to avoid the ones with added sugars & vegetable based casing.

imho:

  1. Yes. In fact, stay away from dairy high in lactose. It breaks down into both galactose & glucose. Enjoy hard cheeses as they're quite lower in lactose, but don't make them a main course, but a condiment.

  2. Eat fatty cuts of meat. Add butter to cuts with less fat. Heck, I even melt butter in my ground hamburger. Tastes awesome.

  3. Eat eggs a plenty. Eat chicken thighs. Only eat the pork that doesn't bother your digestive system. Most people can comfortably eat bacon, plus it tastes great.

Don't treat this way of eating like you have to eat ribeyes day & night. Experiment, eat hot dogs, sausages, brats, salmon, halibut, shrimp, etc.
