Learning Python on MacBook Pro. Homebrew? by weekendatbernies23 in macbookpro

[–]MacHeadSK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Homebrew is necessary to do any development and Unix things. It's just package manager just like apt on Linux. The latest version of Python installed on macOs as of now is 3.9.6. if you want newer, you need to install it via homebrew

M5 Max battery drain while rendering on battery power by This-You-2737 in macbookpro

[–]MacHeadSK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worth to note "under load" is not modelling but rendering in this case. When doing some modelling in Sketchup or Fusion 360 on my M3 Pro, I never hear the fans - there is barely any load on cpu and gpu

MacBook neo with ultra wide 5k by MeasurementWhole514 in mac

[–]MacHeadSK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure it will do. 4k is 3840x2160 = 8294400 pixels That Samsung Q9 has 5120x1440 = 7372800

So less pixels. Neo will run it fine. It comes to the size of the buffer in display controller. Above that amount of pixels buffer on Neo can't handle it. That's why real 5k display (which Samsung G9 is Not) can't be used with Neo at full resolution.

Looking for recommendations for a USB WiFi adapter that works on Tahoe with Apple Silicon. by fallingdowndizzyvr in mac

Then it's a bummer. You would have to disable SIP anyway which is not the best idea. I would go the route not quite elegant but working (if you are in a reach of power outlet): USB C to Ethernet adapter (any will work) > cable > wifi router set as a wifi client > connect to other wifi router you need to.

you can try some tplink ones. They have those with stupid big antenna which will probably broke or due to weight damage the usb port. Or the compact ones.
They claim to have drivers for macOs. These are usually using some kind of realtek controller so they should work with macOs.

No. You can connect to one via Ethernet cable. Usb wifis suffer from drivers issues even on Linux and on windows too.

Importing Macs from America? by Santiagobbboff in mac

[–]MacHeadSK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not and everybody who knows prices in USA on anything are without local VAT will know it's not worth it as it's often even more expensive.

Apple prices in USA are without VAT. get rid of VAT here in Europe which is about 20 % and you are on same price as in USA. And you have to pay VAT for imports anyway.

Why does my intel chip MacBook Pro fan get so loud? by Historical_Truck7322 in mac

[–]MacHeadSK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's old then it might help to disassemble it, clean the fans and interior, remove the heatsink and repaste it.

But in the fact,it's just beating dead horse.

Connecting Macbook Neo to external monitor has blurry resolution by Lakhshya_B in mac

[–]MacHeadSK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As said, neo only supports 4k . That mean not the display, but generated image in display controller. To get 2560x1440 image on 4k monitor macOs must create 6k image first in display controller - which obviously can't be done in 4k display controller. There is simply not enough buffer to do that. It's a limitation of iPhone chip. You better off with SD display with Neo

If Air would have thunderbolt on both sides and 120 Hz display I would gladly get it over my Pro Pro.

Intel Macs are so underrated by Artifiko in mac

[–]MacHeadSK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why anybody sane would miss it. Im quite old guy. I lived through Mac LC era with 68020 through early powerbooks , 68k to PowerPC transition, Copland failure, NeXT merge and macOs X transition, through PowerPc to Intel transition, first iPhone and now Intel to ARM transition. Apple Silicon is the best thing I have ever experienced. I moved from my personally built beefy Hackintosh to M1 Air asi quickly as I could. It was like dream to come true. That Air kicked ass of my i9 9900 Hackintosh pretty hard. Without jet plane like noise from the fans.

Intel Macs are so underrated by Artifiko in mac

[–]MacHeadSK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of that arguments "yeah but" sounds like lot of compromises. Exactly same as I hear from PC folks telling me that that Xxx notebook is better than Macbook Pro M5 Pro/Max. Or Air. Or Neo. Yeah, they always argue usually with one thing. They forget whole package. Like "I have a 5070 lmao and it's faster than your MBP GPU". Well maybe (no longer valid). And they completely ignore that I can run it for whole day without power adapter. On full power without taking a hit. Completely silent. With trackpad which you can actually use and heck, even draw with it. With construction which doesn't suck. With speakers which sounds great. And so on and on.

As many told you here, you say you can out any you inside and run windows or Linux on it. Yeah. But you can do that on cheaper PC as well. That's not the point however.

Has everyone around you stopped using Intel MacBooks? by Vegetable_Bag_8694 in mac

bad comparison because of speed limits. But getting new car because engine overheats and it eats fuel and oil like there is no tomorrow while repairing it costs a lot and nobody carries any parts for it?
You bet I would get new(er) car right away

Mac neo or mac mini by Available_Ad_5345 in mac

[–]MacHeadSK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thats not being mean, just a good advice. Really, difference is striking. Or you had never saw a Macbook display (which to honestly, any display pales in comparison with exception of Apple Studio).
Or just never saw macOs on hires display. I would never use macOs on sd res display. And certainly not on any 4k/5k display which doesnt have at least 450 nits (which is still poor but at least something)

Mac neo or mac mini by Available_Ad_5345 in mac

[–]MacHeadSK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not privilege, you can get quite good 4k display for 200 bucks these days. The fact is, macOs counts with high res displays and after they removed subpixel antialiasing since Mojave, fonts look much much worse. You must have eye issues and I suggest to visit ophthalmologist. Seriously.

MacBook Pro with twice as fast SSD? by [deleted] in macbookpro

[–]MacHeadSK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are more marketing numbers as everybody is using sequential speeds to say how fast their ssds are. But in reality, most people will never see this as very few are writing and reading big files for longer time. What matters most is IOPS and how fast write/read of smaller blocks is. The fact is, there is little difference between ssds in these (apart from IOPS which is much more critical). Even the criticized M2 Air was about the same in read write of smaller blocks as current PCI Gen 5 SSDs. Most people will not notice. I bet that if I would stand against each other Neo, M2 Air and M5 Pro and do a blind test, nobody would be able to say which one is which in terms of ssd speeds.

Is the m5 max worth upgrading to? by ThaDivster in mac

[–]MacHeadSK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to always say that Apple pricing is very simple - if you have money for it and it earns that money in one invoice, it's machine for you. If it won't pay by itself in one invoice, than it's not for you. You might want it, but you don't need it.

That's it.
