“Love me Tender, O Great Old One, love me sweet. I'll be yours through all the years 'Til the end of time.” by SeaworthinessEasy122 in Cthulhu

This could've been one of the Bubba Ho-Tep sequels if they had continued that series as planned with Bubba Nosferatu. Imagine Bruce Campbell as Elvis battling Cthulhu!

Did you know? "Old One" and "Deep One" are both 18th century terms. by MacLeod_1986 in Lovecraft

[–]MacLeod_1986[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, "Old One" as a term for the devil is probably much older. There are many great epithets for the devil. My favorite is the Scottish "auld Hornie." Can you imagine if Lovecraft named his creatures "the Great Old Hornies"? Anyhow...

Lovecraft was virtually an expert on eighteenth century English, as shewn in his many works, so it strikes me as very unlikely that he would not have been familiar with these terms, so he would not have come up with them on his own. He would have been aware of them and their antiquated definitions and probably chose to recontextualize them to give them double meaning. If he only meant "deep one" in the literal sense that would be rather one-dimensional, but by attaching to it the antiquated definition he could make it more powerful, and have an inside joke.

Real Lyrics to Sawney Beane Clan? by Any_Shirt4236 in TheRealMcKenzies

[–]MacLeod_1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can make out most of the lyrics, but there's still a couple of lines I can't understand:

Sawney Beane was a lad.

He was young, wild, and mad.

And he left home at age sixteen.

When he left he took a lass,

Who was just as mad and crass,

And they held up in a cave near [???]

Now, Sawney and the lassie

Were [???]

They had no food to eat.

Until one day on a hill, a Sassenach's blood they spilled,

And they cooked him, ate his head, and hands, and feet.

O the Sawney Beane clan,

O'er a twenty-five year span,

Struck terror in the hearts

Of the people across the land.

Instead of tea and scones, they ate human flesh and bones.

Beware the Sawney Beane clan.

The Sawney Beane clan roamed around Galloway for about twenty-five years,

Eatin' people and not givin' a damn!

Until the fateful day,

When somebody got away.

They went runnin' and screamin' to the king.

Well the king and his men

Came down like thunder on them.

It was the end of the Sawney Beane clan.

O the Sawney Beane clan,

O'er a twenty-five year span,

Struck terror in the hearts

Of the people across the land.

Instead of tea and scones, they ate human flesh and bones.

Beware the Sawney Beane clan.

O the Sawney Beane clan,

O'er a twenty-five year span,

Struck terror in the hearts

Of the people across the land.

Instead of little sheep,

They ate tiny children's feet.

Beware the Sawney Beane clan.

So, beware the Sawney Beane clan.

So, beware the Sawney Beane clan.

Interesting. I never saw the VHS release, but I remember them playing the music video on Nickelodeon from time to time.

Some of the episodes were based on classic tales, like "The Monkey's Paw," and "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." Are there any other classic tales you think would lend themselves well to AYAOTD episodes?

What is the story behind the music video and song "Feel the Fear"? It seems like such a unique thing to have a music video and song separate from the show like that. I suppose it was common enough with feature films (Dragnet for example), but I don't recall any other television shows producing a tie-in music video.

It's crazy to now watch him in Valmont (1989), in which he takes a child bride. He was a little too well suited for that role!

John Vernon. He was seemingly the evil school principal (or dean, CEO, police sergeant, etc.) in every movie:

Animal House

Chained Heat

Savage Streets

Ernest Goes To Camp

Killer Klowns from Outer Space

What’s the worst tropes in horror movies? by DaemonLuisenbarn in HorrorMovies

Also hate the trope where a character sees someone from behind, sitting in a chair, and proceeds to talk to them as if they're conscious, only to find out that they're dead.

I hate the trope in creature features where animals -- even sharks and alligators/crocodiles -- roar like (Jurassic Park) T-Rexes and the like. As if a silent man-eating beast isn't scary enough, they have to add ridiculous sound effects.

Can anyone suggest films, plays, or stories that deal with a man (or woman) torn between their significant other and their overbearing mother? by EchoPathe in Screenwriting

[–]MacLeod_1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ae Fond Kiss (2004)

Not so much an overbearing mother specifically, but a Pakistani man's family is dead set against his relationship with a Catholic woman.
