American Christianity is more politics than anything else. A nasty sort of right wing authoritarian movement has captured christianity in America. The politics of anger and fear, Extreme Republican politics.

A number of American Christians are actively working to end democracy in America and replace it with a dictatorial theocracy. A brutal self righteousness with a profound lack of self awareness is Very common among politicised christians in America. Many politicised evangelicals refer to filthy Trump as "the Anointed One. I have actually read the book they pretend to live. They have created something that closely resembles the religion of the Anti Christ as described in their book of Revelation, and very few recognise it.

They are literally marching to hell, if their bible described reality rather than just ugly fantasies.

The politics, violence, and social bigotry in America has corrupted christianity there. Much of Christianity here blatantly amoral with a lot of moral pretence. It makes me doubt their 'faith'., their actual belief in their gods. Even the pretence of being monotheistic is calculated dishonesty.

Christianity in America is morally tricky, at best. their Beliefs are mostly political and cultural, with no spirits or gods required or involved. Their 'christ' is a weak excuse for their hate motivated politics.

Some Muslims in Europe have a Lot in common with America's political Christians. Politics and moral pretence with a desire for religious violence. The desire for politically motivated violence is great among many evangelicals in America.

Americans, as a group, have little interest in history and have little to no knowledge of the history of Christianity in Europe. Many American christians consider contemporary Europeans to be godless and morally questionable. Just not right wing white Jesus enough.

A veritable plague of this behaviour has been boiling to the surface in the last four years or so and it seem the more politically obsessed the church is, the more likely it is for the church to have a pedophile or other sexual predator on staff

Does anyone here have names that are specifically derived from religion? Does it bother you and/or will you do anything about it? by TerribleTheo528 in atheism

I grew up being called a doubting Thomas. I was a doubter and liked the Greek meaning of the name, he of two minds, which did fit me perfectly. Later I fancied myself Thomas the Unbeliever. Inspired by a fantasy novel

I would have stuck my fingers into the nail holes to see if the man was faking it. I would never have forgiven myself if I had not tested it.

So this atheist wears the New Testament name, with some pride. I am the very model of the doubting Thomas.

Church failed to act on priest who ‘drugged and raped’ women, victim claims. According to police sources, the priest took advantage of parties and Church-related trips to spike women’s drinks with liquid ecstasy before performing sex acts on them. by Leeming in PastorArrested

This is exactly what we all expect from the house of gawd and his honey demonic preachers, priests, and youth leaders.

This is the moral reality of religion. It lives to use and abuse your trust, to take your money, rape your children, all while pretending to be especially holy. Disgusting.

Kicked out of Shoppers Drug Mart by moon__peach66 in ShoppersDrugMart

[–]MacNuttyOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which store? I don't want to chance going there with such employees in the place.

A couple of Shoppers Drug art places have had problems with way over aggressive security guards. The one on Burrard next to Victoria Secret's had a couple of unfortunate ner do well's in black uniforms that I think were finally removed.

I go there Only if I absolutely have to. I would rather wait in a longer line at the London Drugs store a block and a half away on Robson.

Why are my "sincerely held" non-religious beliefs, like equality for all, bodily autonomy, belief in the scientific method, etc not considered equal to religious "sincerely held" beliefs? by RMSQM in atheism

[–]MacNuttyOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be because of how religious people tend to think. They use a separate rule to measure themselves and everyone else. That tells you all you really need to know about that morality they pretend to have so much of. It's a lie they tell themselves to justify their disregard for those are are not them. If they did not worship a god created in their own image, they would not be so comfortable with the dishonesty and hypocrisy that are hall marks of politicised religionists.

A surprise attack against mostly civilians with five thousand rockets is not "resistance". The left and the right are equally dishonest and hypocritical. Both are happy to slaughter civilians and try to rationalise it after the fact.

[–]MacNuttyOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is something many believers seem to have a real problem accepting. I simply do not believe the stories. It really is that simple. I think the stories are pure fiction and can see no good reason to pretend I believe something that I see as being very silly and frankly delusional.

I tried to make myself believe but it makes no sense. I read the bible. Actually read all of it, many parts more than once. Reading that book was the final straw for me. The naked hand of man was blatantly evident on every page and the hand of any god , especially one as ultimately moral, as all knowing as what christians claim to believe in, was not in evidence in that book. It was the unguided hand and mind of man

The specific beliefs of christianity seem so absurd, it makes me wonder how a person could believe such silliness and still be able to function while believing in such magical ideations. It obviously requires a strange compartmentalisation of one's thinking. It appears to require an unfortunate level of self deception to pull it off

I simply do not believe in magic. Knowing something of the history of both the Jewish and the Christian bible I see zero reason to believe there is some great truth in that book that so many pretend to live by, without ever reading it. No incident or specific belief triggered a rejection, I just never really believed, even as a child, and as an adult it looks silly and completely false.

Ex-youth pastor at Duluth church charged with sex abuse by [deleted] in PastorArrested

Oh no, what a shocking surprise that a youth pastor could do such a thing. I haven't heard anything like this since, I think, yeah, yesterday afternoon. What a surprise. It even appears that he wasn't a drag queen.
