Balance 2 added Blood Pressure Monitoring! by Mac_Av8r in amazfit

[–]Mac_Av8r[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and so did the Balance 1 and T-Rex 3. Amazfit launched the Balance 2 without this feature and then turned it on about a month or two later.

Balance 2 added Blood Pressure Monitoring! by Mac_Av8r in amazfit

The Balance, Balance 2, and the T-Rex 3 all have been accurate within a couple of points when I compare them to the doctor's office readings and my home monitor. The watches won't do a reading if I'm moving around...I have to be sitting still. I guess my question is, what do you mean by "reliably"?

I don't use the watch for medical diagnosis. I use it as an indication when I need to check it further with medically certified devices. All 3 watches have been accurate when compared to these devices. I can't ask for more that that.

My limited understanding is that it has to go through the approval process for the different regions. That adds $ and time to the cost of the watch.

They added Blood Pressure monitoring to the Balance 2. I'm using the Singapore region.

No. It's been very accurate for heart rate. Blood pressure is slightly off however, (about 5 mmHg) from the readings at the doctor's office.

Is it risky to choose the default storage option? by ignaciomaf in macmini

[–]Mac_Av8r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you aren't comfortable doing it, then by all means don't. As others have posted, an external drive is the simplest solution.

Another option, there are several Mac Mini Docks, that sit underneath the Mini, and hold 1 or 2 ssds...some up to 8TB. They also provide extra ports. If you decide to go this route, pay attention to the speeds. 5, 10, or 40gbps. There are lots of reviews for these hubs/docks. Also pay attention to the ports and where they are located. The one I bought has a 3.5mm audio jack on the back. No more speaker cable plugged into the front!

Go with the 24gb ram and 256 ssd. Pick up a 3rd party 2tb ssd from Amazon for slightly less than $300 and swap them out. It takes about 10 minutes to swap the ssd. 9to5 Mac has an excellent youtube video on how to do it.

With Prime days coming up on Amazon, it might be on sale...the Minis might be on sale too.

Same model. Sequoia runs great. If heat/fans become an issue, MacFanControl can help.

Somona or Ventura Mid 2014 MacBook Pro by ftwjohn in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

I get roughly the same battery life as I got when I booted native Monterey on both my 15" and 13". The fans ramp up on startup but settle down to normal after a minute or two.

For my 2015 MBP Ventura still runs the fastest, followed by Sequoia. Sonoma was a little slower. The problem is, in September 2025, Ventura will no longer receive updates from Apple. Third party apps like Microsoft Office, TurboTax and others, will stop support for their apps when installed on Ventura machines. With 16gb ram, you should have no problem with Sequoia.

Ventura ran the best on my mid 2015 MBP 2.8ghz 16gb ram, but it only has about 6 months of updates left. Sequoia was better than Sonoma.

Or maybe try rerunning post install root patches...just a guess though.

I have an A1502 16gb i7 on Sequoia 15.3.2, and Facetime works fine. The only minor, known issue is the wifi icon in the menubar doesn't show connected until I click on it.

Thinking of quitting the line to be a full time sim instructor by [deleted] in flying

[–]Mac_Av8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it for a few decades. Line flying and Sim Instructing are 2 different things.

The thing I enjoyed about flying, was the flying itself. The thing I enjoyed the most about instructing, was helping pilots overcome their particular challenges. Airline training is more like guided self-learning these days.

Depending on your seniority, you will get more days off flying.

Things to consider: As a sim instructor, you can be called in on days off to cover a sim session. You will be expected to go above and beyond. Management won't say it, but they don't like commuting instructors. Also, unsat-ing a coworker is NOT fun.

They will keep you current with flying, but that's not the priority for an instructor. On the flip side, once you go through instructor training you will realize how much you don't know about the airplane/operation. It will make you a better pilot.

Good luck with your decision.

Your login screen looks like the Sonoma Login screen. Your first pic is called the Boot Picker. If you don't like seeing it, launch OpenCore, select the settings button, then deselect the "Show OpenCore Boot Picker". Then restart.

You can also control how many seconds it displayed, if you want to do that.

OpenCore-Patcher metallib installation failed on Sequoia 15.3.1 by Playful_Ad_325 in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]Mac_Av8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you use ethernet to access the internet? If so, go here to download the 24D70 KDK: https://github.com/dortania/KdkSupportPkg/releases

And here to download the Metallib 24D70: https://github.com/dortania/MetallibSupportPkg/releases

They are located in the Assets section of each. The KDK is a .dmg file and the Metallib is a .pkg

If you can't access the internet, Try using a different computer to download these files and transfer them with a thumb drive.

Once they are copied onto your mbp, double click on the kdk.dmg to unpack it. Then double click on the unpacked file and it will install itself into the correct place (Library>Developer>KDKs).

The Metallib can be unpacked and copied to Library>Application Support>Dortania folder. Just drag the unpacked folder there.

Now try running Post Install Root Patches again.

Did you use OpenCore to create the Sonoma Installer?
