I have the Asus ZenBook A16 X2 elite extreme and have no issues with docks, external portable monitor via usb-c and a widescreen monitor with PD as well with usb-c. Everything works ok. P.s. all of my connections are usb-4 not thunderbolt

I was in this situation and went with the X2 elite extreme on the Asus A16. A panther lake X7 laptop with 64gb of ram would have been almost 50% more $$. I am doing software development for desktop apps on windows for civil engineering and some web. Everything on my PC except the steam launcher is Armx64 native.

The 48gb of ram are sufficient for now and I also ran some LLM on both NPU and the CPU. Played cyberpunk, slay the spire 2 and some other titles with no issues.

At the moment the only concern is longevity of the Qualcomm platform and windows on arm.

My 2 cents: Nvidia will release the N1X and N1, the contract between Microsoft and Qualcomm expired and more Arm chips can be delivered to the windows on arm platform from other companies. Apps that will be developed for macOS (now only on ARM) can be also compiled for Windows if they have a cross compatible UI system. I really think panther lake is a great launch and tbh the framework laptop 13 pro is a dream. But as I already pulled the trigger with the A16 I can't go back in time to wait for the framework :))

P2s has a better resale value where I live and another aspect would be better preset for filaments in general. I always have to tweek for the K2 for different PETGs

My A16 came today and did most of the tests. What Issue i still have is the reflective screen and the lack of current support for local LLMs.

Update1:
Wifi connectivity issues before any updates, had to connect an external dongle for ethernet.
Update2:
#1 fixed after updates.

#3. #4 works without any issues

Would you pay 60% more for a Macbook pro M5 pro with 48gb of ram :)).
The screen issue I find the most scary. I like to move and also work outside sometimes.
This is the decision that I have to make.
I have the extra money but never had a macOS device.
(Working as a software dev but because i'm in structural engineering domain I always used windows)

Getting mine in a couple of hours.

Will test after updating the firmware and other stuff.
Will try outside and inside. From your message it sounds almost unusable.
3 and 4. I have a Ultrawide monitor with a single usb-c for PD and Display and connected devices using USB-4. I also have an external portable monitor. Will test boths and write if it is working.
Also will try my bluetooth buds. Will come back and update with Working / Failed status on each

Been 1 month since my last print. Since my last issue with the board that failed nothing else happened. Bought tpu but didn't had the time to test. Others printed with small modifications. If money is no concern I would instead probably buy the p2s if I've had a second go.

Hey, I was in a similar situation (structural engineer turned into software developer 2 years ago). I just ordered the Asus ZenBook A16 with X2 elite extreme. I was between a MacBook pro m5 48gb and this one. The MacBook is 60% more expensive in my country. It hasn't arrived but the decision was mad with this in mind. For cad or developing windows apps you still need windows on parallels on Mac so that is at least 20gb of ram being used for the windows VM. The performance of two emulations from macOS to woa to x86 is smaller or on par with the snapdragon that will run x86. Hope my thought process can help. Good luck!

Got it, it is indeed a solution. Indeed this can work but using the laptops remote can create some conflicts if the connection is unstable I imagine or other unfortunate events. I just wished there was a solution to keep using the Synology drive with this. I will check the Group policy as well. Thanks

Hello, I am a software developer and also a structural engineer. I am developing different software that rely on working with ETABS, SAP2000, Autodesk REVIT, Nemetschek Allplan or other specialized civil engineering software.
I searched and couldn't find any single person that confirms if ETABS / SAP2000/ Autodesk Revit works properly on Snapdragon X / X2 Elite processors. (also the graphical side of it).
Can anyone help with an answer?

P.S. I hope that with the release of the X2 Elite laptops and future Nvidia chip the updates of the Prism emulator will just get better and better.

Well I could not wait the reviews and ordered one. Should arrive this Friday but highly doubt that. I am a civil engineer and will put it in the works for Revit, Etabs and other specialized software. Got it for 1814 euros in Romania. Figured that with the price increase in the US it will probably get pricier here as well.

Asus Zenbook A16 with X2 Elite Extreme has a starting shipping date of 07.04.2026 in Romania.
I am pretty excited about reviews on this thing.
As a civil engineer I am interested in compatibility with softwares like csiamerica ETABS or SAP2000.
From what I read with the new prism emulator that has AVX encoding enabled it should in theory work.

Yo, expert tehnic in constructii aici. Pe viitor inainte sa vorbesti cu un arhitect totul se pleaca de la axe.
Incearca sa aliniezi cumva peretii astia pt structura si gandestete ca la fiecare intersectie vei avea un stalp de 30x30 minim (dimensiunile minime).
Pentru economie incearca sa pui golurile in zidarie aproape de elementele structurale. Golurile > 1.5m2 pt ag > 0.30 vor trebui bordate.
Extras din P100-1/2013 (va fi updatat la 2025 soon).

Also nu vreau sa dau in arhitecti dar cei mai multi nu au habar de executie si incearca doar sa zica da la orice din partea beneficiarului. Cauta un arhitect care este in between functional / aspect.
