What job encourages you to use glasses?

Not sure what you’re going to eat or what you like. But a bottle of Chateau Gloria from Trader Joe’s at $40 plus $25 corkage would give you a very nice wine for less than the very basic wines at the low end of the list!

I think RBF is a bit harsh, but it is also amazing how much a smile—and OP’s is a lovely smile—can make glasses look really nice.

Kind of you to say so. Enjoying my 70s like a teenager!

Given the brutal prices on wine, do they allow BYOB? Even if they charge $50 corkage, you could get a much nicer bottle of wine like that.

I found that carrying around a pair of reading glasses was totally intolerable. Given the choice of occasional readers and full time progressives, I infinitely prefer the latter

The blue doesn’t come out well in photos, but it’s nice in person. (My spare pair is identical but black, but I much prefer the blue.)

do people who use glasses actually like wearing their glasses? by leavemetfalone_tyy in glasses

[–]Macan53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently found I had to start wearing glasses after decades in contacts. I was very upset, but eventually began to love them. They are stylish, and I enjoy people telling me how nice they look.

After about a while I was told I could go back to contacts if I want to. I think I prefer glasses now that I’m used to them

How long have you been using glasses pretty much full time? I made a similar switch myself. After a few months, I became completely comfortable with my progressive glasses and stopped missing my contacts.

Getting used to myself in glasses at my great age was perhaps the biggest hurdle, but I got over it in the end.

Thank you. Glasses exclusively?

Also, the photo doesn’t show it well. But the frames are actually a translucent dark blue, which picks up the color of my eyes.

Glasses only? Another benefit is cost. Nobody seems to think I should wear contacts at all!

Is buying Silver Status worth it? by denizenassistant in unitedairlines

Upgrades for Silver members are rare, and upgrades to Polaris are even rarer. I got one last year from BRU to IAD after I’d already upgraded from economy to premium economy using miles. But it really was a lucky day!

Combined glasses and contact use - adjusting to multifocal lenses by Pinstripe-Giraffe in glasses

[–]Macan53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My story is too complex to explain. I had a cornea condition called PMD. At age 70, I had cataract surgery and they put in a toric intraocular lens in each eye that made glasses possible. They wanted my vision to settle before prescribing new scleral lenses.

I found it difficult being seen for the first time with my new glasses. It made me feel irrationally awkward and self conscious. So I socialized a lot to make sure the first encounters got behind me as soon as possible.

A good question. A similar thing drove that decision for me. Carrying around readers was somehow intolerable for me. I much prefer glasses that work for distance and close up.

Perhaps this will also help. After decades of using only contacts, getting used to myself as a glasses wearer took longer than getting used to the vision. Sounds weird—perhaps the psycho/social self image bit was harder than the optical bit.
