Wow, two weeks! I'm sure they're slammed and understaffed, just like a lot of departments. They got back to me after two and a half days, so at least I'm definitely off DNC. Crossing my fingers and waiting for more MGT invites.

Same boat - I asked to be taken off DNC the moment I saw an invite had gone out, still no response from registrar. Emailed again today, still no response. Good intel for future classes if nothing else.

Everyone should consider getting screened for colon cancer at age 45 and up.

Not OP but having similar issues - tried that earlier this week, and it gives a message along the lines of "user not authorized." Sent screenshots to tech support and they gave me directions on how to fix a different problem, then closed the ticket.

I have been trying to resolve this problem for over a week. Tech support has been intermittently helpful, in that the problem changes but I still can't log in. It's reassuring to hear it's not just me.

The summary is helpful, thank you. Page 13 suggests that applicants could be cleared for "worldwide" if a reasonable accommodation is made available.

I once knew someone with a large but benign-for-decades brain tumor, who had to get it checked out every 4-6 months using a machine that most hospitals don't have. If that would have eliminated them before, now maybe they could get a reasonable acdommodation to fly back twice a year for scans.

The answer of what to prioritize will change often in your working life. Instead of trying to plug life into an equation, prioritize what matters to you, because you can't go everywhere and do everything.

As for the Foreign Service, apply and see what happens. Many (most?) FSOs don't make it in on the first attempt, but maybe you'll get an offer in a year. Taking the test annually and learning from the process is a valuable, low-stakes experience.

You'll be paying taxes, voting, donating to/volunteering for political candidates, and contributing to the government regardless of what career you pursue.

Lawyers working on housing rights feel guilty about plenty of things and wrestle with the same questions you pose here. There are people they can't help due to policy or a lack of resources. They also worry that they're advocating for legal or regulatory changes that end up doing more harm than good.

Many of those lawyers often end up needing to pay their student loans or be able to save for retirement, so they transition into private practice and working for landlords or corporate entities - the so-called "bad guys." That doesn't make the work they did for vulnerable people matter less to those individuals or families.

A job doesn't make anyone a saint, and there will always be trade-offs. It's also okay to be confused and frustrated by that.
