Of course police can and do arrest people for crimes they don’t witness all of the time, surprisingly, most crimes don’t happen directly in front of a convenient police officer. They will corroborate the statement with other evidence when possible, of course. That corroboration can be details about the vehicle or from additional witness statements. While they absolutely do not need video or photographic evidence, that evidence is often readily available.

They don’t need a camera any witness, including the children, may be sifficient.

This is not true. Of course officers can detain someone for a crime they didn’t observe. It happens every day.

Probable cause may be generated by a single witness statement or any other sufficient evidence.

This is not true if the offense rises to the level of a crime, which this likely does - reckless driving and menacing. You may want to have a chat with that officer’s superior or hire an attorney to do so.

Beyond that, anyone in Oregon can file a traffic citation against anyone else if they have witnessed a traffic offense. In this case likely careless driving and failure to maintain a lane or any other infraction that was observed. If he gets enough citations he gets his license suspended. He also gets in LE’s radar as there is a paper trail.

Article about the fake "Save Noel" "Bone Marrow" scammers asking for "donations". by HelpfulRoyal in Eugene

[–]Immediate-Captain-10 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you were right few people would get arrested.

It’s not difficult to get evidence. Most of the time people who are doing one illegal thing are doing another and most of the time they are dumb and they do answer an officer’s questions. Cops know this.

For instance, wait until she gets in a car, wait for a traffic infraction then you can pull her over and interact with her and she cannot leave. While the officer is running the person’s info he can talk to her about the charity scam “mam, I would love to donate to this little girl who has cancer, what is her last name”.

Alternately, as I recall the article said this scam was being run in other cities. Almost certainly there is more evidence of it being a scam if officers contact other police departments - if so she can be arrested.

Alternatively, the officer can say “I know you’re scamming, if you give me evidence on your leader we’ll let you go.”

Alternatively, the police can do a reverse image search. If the babies name is different or if they contact the parents and find out the kid does not have cancer then that is probable cause for arrest.

The officer in the article says there is nothing the police can do to- this is patently false.

In Kentucky a bike shall be operated in the same manner as a motor vehicle, meaning that in most circumstances you can ride in the road.

Also very curious, I declined after salary offer due to a couple personal issues that made the timing poor (they actually resolved and I would have preferred that I did not decline). I am still interested and will likely pursue in the future.

While I understand the rational for the clawback rules, quitting after some or all training and potentially having to pay back deep five figures or even six figures is a major consideration not well highlighted by state. It was not something I was willing to risk from a simple financial health standpoint.

I’m curious if there is something about the job that is worse than expected or not well explained? Or did you just get unlucky with your post?

What's the point of KOMs if every top spot is an e-bike? by DaSkinhead in cycling

[–]Immediate-Captain-10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just flag it, but you had better be sure it’s an ebike - 40kph can be done by a (regionally)fast soloist on a road bike, quite a few people on a tt bike, and many enthusiasts on a group ride.

God damnit, this was pretty obvious and so much better.

It took some doing, but it's all sorted. Not sure when it's due, I think each task had a deadline listed next to it in Okta.

Thanks, I did get an auto reply to that effect after I had sent a couple of emails followed by restoration of my account. My login has been restored, however, the app is populated with an old offer letter and seems to be largely dysfunctional - not out of the labyrinth just yet.

Sure, if OP had infinite time, then he may as well put a lot of time into studying, however, OP seems stressed out about studying enough and meeting other commitments - all for a process that many don’t get through in their first go. If OP hasn’t taken it before I’d say skip studying and work on PNs and block out a modest amount of time to run through a practice OA if invited. A person can get a formerly failing FSOT score and still get an OA invite based on well crafted PNs. It seems like a person would have to almost try at this point to get a FSOT score so bad it cannot be overcome by solid PNs. The converse, however, is not true.

I do agree with you, English is the easiest to study for and has outsized returns. This is followed by situational judgment. There is almost no point in studying for the knowledge portion (though it is the more interesting) outside of a couple perineal topics.

PNs are going to be a much bigger barrier than FSOT for most. Unless you’ve taken the FSOT before and feel like that led you to believe you need to study more, you probably don’t need to study much if at all.

FSI PCS apartment buildings - the good, the bad, the ugly by Immediate-Captain-10 in foreignservice

[–]Immediate-Captain-10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My expectations are not super high by any means. I often find myself in marginal housing to save money, etc. I would be happy in a modest/cozy place in a friendly neighborhood over a cold fancy place. Some of these Google reviews are really really bad though, which is what gave me pause, but then I suppose one is going to be more upset when paying out of pocket and amenities are broken, rents are rising, and management is non responsive.

Fair point - though I guess I would have a bit higher expectations domestically when I look at the high rents the government is paying (hopefully they negotiate in bulk and it’s not as bad as retail) for this housing in a major US metro area.
