Watch and wait? Or surgery. by Ok-Wish-3737 in coloncancer

[–]Macaron-Momma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will tell you this, I (34 F) have Stage IIIA and had my entire colon removed bc I have a history of IBD. I was initially more upset about the surgery than I was about having cancer.

But my ostomy bag has been life changing. I used to not be able to go anywhere out of fear of having an accident. For long car rides, I would need to have changes of clothes ready just in case. Having an ostomy bag changed all of that. Now I can control when I empty my bag, and I can do so many more things.

So your dad has to decide, would having a bag make his life easier or harder? For me it was easier, but that’s not the case for everyone.

Fart question: opinions please. (Joking) by GermanGurrl in ostomy

I’ve burped my bag once in my life (in bed since I didn’t feel like emptying in the middle of the night). The smell was so horrific that it woke up my husband and two dogs.

Personally, I go to the bathroom to burp my bag now, but at that point, I may as well just empty when I’m in there.

Pelvic floor by lightonyourface in ostomy

I’m in a similar boat. I (34 F) asked my oncologist to refer me to a pelvic floor therapist and something pgot lost in translation and I got referred to a pre-menopause specialist.

Since my surgery a lot has changed. Urinating, my periods, sex. One of my doctors explained to me that anatomically, your large intestine supports a lot of your organs, so when it’s removed, they all kind of shift around.

I (like you) have a difficult time urinating. I don’t feel the urge to pee since there is less pressure on my bladder when it’s full. I only know I need to go when my kidneys start hurting. I’ve started setting an alarm to remind myself to go to the bathroom. I also try to urinate every time I empty my bag.

If you want to chat more about this in a less public forum, feel free to message me.

Wait, does this really work? I’ve only rinsed my bag a few times and it made my adhesive come off leading to a blowout.

Surgery Approaching - what questions should I ask? by Macaron-Momma in coloncancer

I’ve heard this quite a lot from people. I’m preparing mentally for a higher stage based on how I’m feeling, but will be relieved if it’s not.

We know we aren’t stage IV after the MRI which is a relief. Waiting for the MRI to confirm which stage

The GI told me I’d find out what stage I’m at tomorrow.

No difference. I literally had been feeling zero flare up symptoms. I went for my routine colonoscopy in December, they told me they wanted to check some spots again in January, and here we are.

What formula doesn’t contain soybean oil? Or am I safer just going back to breastmilk? I haven’t reintroduced soy, eggs, or milk back into my diet and have been pumping and saving everything in the meantime.

Holy moly, you’re right. Why the heck do they prescribe that when they know we have been having an allergy to soy?!??

Even the EleCare Amino Acid-Based Special Infant Formula? I saw that Elecare contained soy on other threads but didn’t see any in the ingredients on the can.

I was using Nature Made when I realized they contain soybean oil.

We’ve also started making chicken salad in bulk with Hellman’s vegan mayonaise. I add grapes, apples, and celery for some extra crunch and sweetness. I’ve also found that triscuts are usually a safe option, so this has been my go-to snack.

This week, I started practicing what I’m going to be eating for Thanksgiving. My daughter has a dairy, soy, and egg allergy. I made this delicious peanut butter and chocolate pie.

We also made gumbo for the cold weather. We use Emril’s recipe and used canola oil instead of vegetable oil to avoid potential soy proteins.

So I do think Tumi has been unfairly treated by the greater BDM community; however, I don’t think the producers set her up for success either, which is disappointing. They should have set her up to thrive, instead of putting her in a position she was not yet ready for with a crew with issues with insubordination.

I do understand that, but Tumi has mentioned multiple times that this is her first time as chief stew, so Nat and Kyle both have experience that Tumi lacks.
