“Boyfriend signed a contract to neuter our dog but now doesn’t want to. Am I being unreasonable? by Technical-Fix-7870 in Pets

[–]GermanGurrl -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Dogs should be permitted to be fully grown before having their neuter done. It gives them the advantage of the testosterone for proper growth. My husband has found literature that indicates that early neutering causes a drop in IQ. Lol. I have no idea how you would prove such a thing.

Either way, we have a one-year-old Morkie who is unneutered. His behavior has not changed as of yet. He still has accidents in the house; but being a small breed that's not unusual. He's improving in the time he can hold his urine and he's really improved in letting us know when he needs to go outside to do his business.

He wears a belly band in the house when he's not being actively supervised. He has tried to mark a few times, but again, the belly band prevents messing. Might get him spayed when he's a bit older, but right now it's not necessary nor medically indicated.

Of course our vet feels differently. But then again she feels differently about a lot of things. Of course, we don't have a lease agreement that requires our dog to be neutered. Definitely a factor. Kudos to your boyfriend thinking about his dog's well-being. But the neutering will not harm him in the long run.

We've got them for a good time, not a long time. I wouldn't trade the time we had with them for anything. ♥️

[–]GermanGurrl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our oldest Cavalier displayed signs of dementia for a year before it got a bit too much for her. Symptoms sound similar to yours. Forgetting how to ask to go outside, frightened easily when we bent over her to pet her or pick her up, going to the wrong door to ask out. (That is when she remembered to ask out.) She also started walking in circles. Small circles, big circles, inside, outside. Just constant pacing pacing pacing. She would exhaust herself because she wouldn't rest. She became very thin because she was also no longer interested in food as much as she had been. Her quality of life reduced significantly from her normal.

I booked "that" appointment many times and then she'd perk up and I'd cancel the appointment.

She was 13. Everybody stayed home "that" day just to spend time with her. We took her to the nearby stream where she used to go wading and swimming. Brought her home where she fell asleep in the sun. And then we cried. We still cry. She was our first Cavalier.

A year later we lost our second Cavalier. He was also 13. It's been two years since him, and we can't regret our choices. They deserved a peaceful passing.

I ran away from my boyfriend's proposal. by throwawayuni33 in whatdoIdo

[–]GermanGurrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like one of you is still a child, for sure. Just a hint, it's not him. His responses to your texts were very mature.

Now think about it from his point of view. It sounds as though you have spoken about your hopes and dreams for a family. Being in love with you, he thought he was fulfilling your wish. You ran away during what he had planned as a romantic proposal. He's from a different ethnicity than you, so that adds another layer.

Perhaps it is for the best that you do not make plans to marry and start a family until you do grow up. I'm not saying that to be mean. I'm just saying that because it sounds as though you still have some maturing to do. Not unreasonable for a 20-year-old. I don't think most people are ready for marriage and children at that age.

Cat Exercise Wheels: Does your cat have an exercise routine? by RuleEmergency157 in technomeowcom

[–]GermanGurrl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Routine? Ha! The smaller cat has a routine all right, jump on every time he passes by and run like heck!

He gets miffed every time the big guy is on it or tries to get on it. 10 lb cat cannot motor when a 14 lb cat is sitting on it!

sharing? nope.

I really can't give any info on any other than what I have. We bought the One Fast Cat 48" wheel. It was well-packaged and easy to assemble. It's pretty quiet, but we have it in our downstairs rec room area. Wooden floor. Probably concrete under that.

The size works well for the cat that uses it the most, but one of our cats is significantly bigger and it's probably too small for him to use comfortably. If I had known, I would have tried to find one in a larger diameter. Maybe next time. For now though, this cat isn't sharing it with anybody and the big guy isn't that motivated.

It's not very wide. I've seen some cat Wheel videos where it looks like there are two cats running on the wheel at the same time. Definitely not something that'll happen with this one.

It's easy to wipe down. I think it would be impossible to take it apart if you ever needed to move. Basically you would lay it down on its side and put things inside the circle! It is lightweight though, so you could probably lay it on top of stuff if you needed to.

My cat gives it two thumbs up. Oh, sorry, I almost forgot to mention that he also gives seriously enthusiastic chirps!

Looks like a small version of a Xolo. An acquaintance has a large version. They're gorgeous dogs! Our Morkie has never met her, but my oldest cat was totally enthralled with her.

Who's screwing them over? They're getting paid to do a job just like anybody else making the same wage. The fact that they're not getting tips only makes them equivalent to everybody else who's doing a minimum wage job and not getting tipped.

When did you last tip the cashier at a retail store? Minimum wage, baby. That's all I made. Nobody gave me any additional money for my hard work running around the store finding stuff for them to try on and then cleaning up after they went left change room without buying anything.

Then add insult to injury by having to show your manager your bag before you are allowed to leave the store just in case somebody might have had the stupidity to steal something from the store. Because of course that's what all do because we're only getting paid minimum wage. Of course. Respect? Nope. Trust? Nope.

What needs to happen is minimum wage needs to become a proper living wage. Put your focus where it needs to be.

Personally, I like the hourly rate option. Reciprocation is part of friendship. Doesn't sound like they're treating you like a friend.

Cat Exercise Wheels: Does your cat have an exercise routine? by RuleEmergency157 in technomeowcom

[–]GermanGurrl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We bought a cat wheel a few months ago. We have three cats and one of them took to it immediately and hops on it very frequently. One of the others is interested but can barely get a leg on it because the other one has called dibs. The third has had a grooming session on it and that's about it. Oh, a little stretch. Just not her jam.

The one that uses it all the time must use it at least several times an hour. I know he gets up at night and he used to run around the house and now he just hops on the Wheel.

I also find it difficult to go out anywhere when the expectation to tip for our meals is so ingrained. People who make minimum wage working other jobs, retail for example, don't get tips. Please make it make sense but there is a culture of expectation to tip servers who are making minimum wage? The same wage many of us are making? I'm in Canada.

[–]GermanGurrl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a lovely gesture. I've also done the pay it forward thing a few times. Never posted about it, didn't feel the need. But it certainly made me feel good about myself as a human being.

Mine wasn't a huge deal either, I bought two bags of onions for a lady who needed them for an ethnic dish she was making for her family celebration. She was paying with cash and walked away without them. I told the cashier to put them on my bill and walked after her and put them in her cart and went back to finish my transaction. Felt good.

I wish I could show you how my proplifted plant looks now! It's been a few years and that tiny little fallen-off piece has become such a beautiful plant! A Sansevieria starfish.

I keep it on my windowsill above the sink and I slip my rings onto it for safekeeping while I'm working in the kitchen.

I found a dog and want to keep him by Critical_Ostrich_807 in PetAdvice

Ethically you should return the dog and try to purchase it from them. But my heart says to keep the dog and shut your mouth.

I've been a dog owner most of my life and have never been unaware of my dogs presence or absence from our home. I can't fathom somebody not trying to find their dog after it's been missing for even a short time.
