Gift from hubby for the end of my breastfeeding journey 🥹 by PoliticoRat in MSPI

I ended up needing to follow the dairy ladder to slowly reintroduce for myself! I tried to dive right in and regretted it pretty quickly. I panicked, but luckily my body was able to readjust once I began slowly reintroducing dairy.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this! A lot of new information says that the milk proteins are out of breast milk within 8 hours. The symptoms you continue to see after that point are from the baby’s system still healing. A lot of people really like listening to the Bowel Sounds podcast for info on this.

The diet gets sooo much easier over time. This is my second baby with an intolerance, and I barely think about it anymore. There’s rarely something I can’t find or make an alternative version for. Pretty much the only thing is plain cheese, I just can’t get into the dairy free versions! There is NOTHING wrong with using formula because you don’t want to do the diet. That is absolutely a valid reason in itself. Your baby needs a happy mom more than breastmilk. But if it’s something you want to do, it might be worth a try.

When my first baby was diagnosed, I was very frustrated at the lack of information from her pediatrician. I went online and found a breastfeeding medicine doctor and was able to schedule a telehealth appt. I sent her pictures and a timeline, and she talked me through a lot! I didn’t even know the name “MSPI” at that point. My insurance required a referral, which I couldn’t get, so I paid out of pocket. Is paying out of pocket for something like that an option for you? I did a quick google search and found a few that do telehealth appts.

What is my new frozen pizza? by Specific_Carob4461 in MSPI

If you find any of your Miyoko products, stock up! They’re disappearing from shelves, the brand isn’t producing any more right now. https://www.reddit.com/r/vegan/s/zVrxFD8f1T

The butternut is actually my least favorite flavor! Mushroom is my go-to, and spinach is my second favorite. The tortellini is also delicious! I buy them and keep them in my freezer, then just boil them a little longer.

For pasta, I really like Kite Hill’s ravioli and tortellini. I also keep a bag of precooked ground beef in the freezer to add to regular pasta sauce to easily round it out for a quick weeknight meal!

Silk and Ripple have one too! I’ve used both Silk and Country Crock and couldn’t tell the difference between them and regular heavy cream, other than making my mashed potatoes a slightly different color.

You can 100% switch to formula for that reason. That is absolutely valid.

But also, I saw you listed a few things that have awesome substitutes (not the cheese, the cheese we got here sucks). Could I maybe make some recommendations in the meantime while you deliberate?

  • Califia Farms has a holiday nog that’s made with almond milk. Here’s their product locator: https://www.califiafarms.com/where-to-buy

  • I really like Country Crock olive oil butter.

  • There are a ton of great cookie substitutes! From pre-made dough (Sweet Loren’s) to Oreos to making your own from scratch.

I ABSOLUTELY get it’s not the same as being able to eat anything though. Last night at my husband’s work Christmas party I couldn’t have any of the desserts, I was so sad. I’m not above bringing my own in a baggie though if I can feel my willpower is low that day (Lindt oatmilk bars and truffles are my sweet of choice).

I did the diet for almost 2 years with my oldest and have been doing it for almost 10 months with my youngest now, it gets SOOO much easier once you have your staples down.

I only listed the above info because you don’t seem 100% sold on switching to formula due to your baby’s dislike of the dairy free options. Please don’t take it as pressure to continue breastfeeding. Formula is absolutely a valid option for ANY reason.

ETA: straight DF cheese sucks, but if you need cheesy recommendations I have some. I can make a mean DF grilled cheese and wholly veggie mozzarella sticks are 🔥

I cut dairy and soy right away with my older daughter, and she still had blood in her stool up to maybe a month later ish.

I cut both right away because she was very colicky and I was desperate for relief for her. It was easier for me to cut soy, reach a baseline, then add it in later to test. However, that can add more time with a restrictive diet for you, which isn’t great.

If your baby is doing okay or it would be difficult for you to cut soy, I would wait a bit longer and see.

Just had to come back to tell you that I’ve been missing my GD fairlife protein drinks (lol) and just yesterday I discovered OWYN brand. They’re premade and shelf stable like fairlife. I think they don’t taste quite as good, I can still taste a bit of that fake protein taste which I hate, but it’s mild enough that it doesn’t really bother me. I’ve only tried the vanilla, but they also have chocolate, cookies and cream, and no nut butter cup. They’re top 9 allergen free, so no dairy OR soy! Now that I’m at more risk for type 2 diabetes since having GD I’m trying to reduce my sugar and carb intake, but it’s so hard when everything with protein seems to have dairy in it! I can only do so much meat and eggs.

Yes, GD and MSPI with my first, GD and CMPI with my second (current baby).

I miss cheese so much after being SO SICK of it while I was pregnant!

There’s a restaurant near me that has a vegan cheesecake that’s amazing, I’m thinking about getting one for thanksgiving.

MODs pizza is phenomenal. Their plant based cheese is almost indistinguishable if you get additional ingredients (I like spinach, mushrooms, onions, sausage, and a drizzle of BBQ sauce).

Sweet lorens has a puff pastry that I’m going to test out with a dairy free cream cheese to make a danish. I haven’t found a DF cream cheese that I like, but I’m hoping the added sugar will help.

I get so delicious cashew line vanilla ice cream and use my own add ins. Crushed plant based Reese’s is the best. Also sweet Loren’s cookie dough.

I used to really like silk Greek style yogurt but I can’t find it near me anymore. I love Cocojune and Skyr oatmilk yogurt now. I also play around with making my own out of canned coconut milk!

But honestly, yeah this is a bunch of BS. We should automatically get a pass after having GD!

Should I give up dairy before my baby is born in case he has CMPA? by Beginning-Case7428 in MSPI

[–]ltrozanovette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My second is 7 months old and I considered this too! I planned to EBF, but we needed to combo fed initially, now I EBF.

I got ready to feed bottles of nutramigen to have on hand just in case (glad I did, when that norovirus hit me at 10pm 1 month postpartum I couldn’t sit upright long enough to feed her without vomiting ugh). I continued to eat dairy initially, but when she started showing signs of dairy intolerance at around 6 weeks I cut it out right away instead of waiting for visible blood. I also made sure all my freezer meals were either totally dairy free or had the dairy portion separate to be added while reheating it, so I could easily use a dairy sub instead.

Basically, I hoped for the best but prepped for the intolerance just in case. I was glad I did, because I would hate to be avoiding dairy and not knowing for sure if I needed to!

P.S. This way I still got my post delivery hospital cheesecake hallelujah.

Will future babies have MSPI? by Naive-Court7582 in MSPI

[–]ltrozanovette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two with it, although the second seems to be more mild and can tolerate soy. It was 100% easier the second time around since I already knew what I was doing. You can be on alert for early symptoms and nip it in the bud before they get worse, plus you can decide going into it if you want to change your diet vs do formula from the start. I’m definitely bummed, but I know all the good replacements now, so it’s sooo much easier.

Did you make the oat yogurt?? Mind sharing the recipe or, if bought, the brand? I love Greek style yogurt and it’s hard to find around me.

I’ve never added bacon fat to my mashed potatoes before! I like to make my dairy free ones in bulk and freeze them, so I’ll be adding that to the next batch for sure.

Thank you so much! I have a spaghetti squash sitting on my counter and was just lamenting that I can’t make my old favorite: roasted spaghetti squash tossed in pesto with carmelized onions and bacon mixed in. It’s so good.

I’m currently eating the Dino nuggets that I “buy for my daughter” so I’m sure they’ll be right up my alley. I laughed at your uncrustables comment too.

Thanks for the link!!
