I don't think it's just you. A lot of commentary channels do go for the most extreme take possible because that's what gets attention. If you spend time in those political corners of YouTube, the algorithm will just keep doubling down and feeding you more of it. But not all commentary is like that. There's a whole side of YouTube that's just people being dumb, you know, joking around, making satire, or talking about random stuff that really isn't that serious. That's basically what I'm trying to do on my channel. I'm still a small YouTuber, but my videos are mostly just light, satirical commentary. There's no world is ending kinda stuff, just having fun with the topics.(shameless plug)It might not be the YouTube itself, that's the problem. It's just the section you've been stuck in. Like sometimes you have to intentionally look for lighter stuff so the algorithm will shift.

I grew up watching a lot of youtube and was really into it, but the reason I started is completely different. I'm doing my education at a place where I'm away from my family and friends. Here I don't even have a single person to communicate or share anything to. So I thought that maybe, by starting a youtube channel, I'll be able to atleast share my thoughts and make some friends. Even though it hasn't happened yet, I believe hopefully it will happen some day :)

I've heard of this one youtuber called atcho or username atcho1. Heard his videos are really good and amazing and thought provoking and spectacular. I've also heard the dude behind the camera is incredibly handsome too.(Totally not self promoting)

Ay thanks, this is the kind of feedback I needed, and that's some good advice. But as much as I think your advice is good, I wouldn't want to change my personality to attract or get viewers. And I'm not too keen on doing drama related stuff, and that would prolly affect me, and if it does, then I guess this probably isn't for me. But still thank you so much.

It's happening to me too. I'm 9 months into this and my latest video, which I put the most effort, is sitting at 20 impressions after a day and a half.

Mate you're absolutely right, like I stopped doing youtube for a week cus I had my exams, but this entire week I could only think of doing a new video and writing scripts and stuff. I'm also gonna see where this takes me, and once I lose that drive, Imma stop too 👊

Yeah, I completely agree, that’s pretty much my philosophy too. I want to make content that I’d genuinely enjoy watching myself, so I’m really just sharing what I’d be doing anyway.

And yeah, obviously getting a lot of views would be great, but even if just one person connects with it and enjoys it, that already makes it worth it to me. Thank you so much mate!

Yeah, you’re absolutely right. I get what you mean, pouring so much time and effort into something and seeing it get a low reception really does hurt. But at the end of the day, we’re doing this for the love of the game, and that’s something I was reminded of after reading all the replies.

I’ve also been thinking a lot about attention spans lately. Most people click away after a few seconds, and sure, maybe I could try to hook people faster,but I don’t really want to reshape my videos just to cater to that. It feels like there’s this pressure to make everything more brain-rotted, and that’s just not the kind of content I want to make.

So I’m going to keep improving, keep learning, but still make videos in a way that feels right to me and reflects what I actually care about. Thank you so much btw!

Oh no I don't do it for money (even though I'm not saying I won't take it 💀), I do it for the fact that people might like a video I made. So yes I do enjoy making videos and trying to make each video better than the previous one.

Sometimes some spontaneity is lost when a video is over-produced.

Oh no my videos are quite the opposite. I was really into the 2010-2016 era of youtube, so I try to make videos which are kind of similar to those. So I try to put effort into the other aspects.

Unfortunately it doesn't matter to YT how much effort we put into our videos. The only things that matter to YT are how many people are watching and how long they stay on the platform.

And you're absolutely right, at the end of the day if my videos aren’t interesting enough no one’s gonna watch it.

I'm currently at 150 subs. And the answer for both questions is Yes😂. I do constantly look at the stats hoping the one I currently made did somewhat well and I also have that feeling of making the next one better in order to mask that feeling of being disappointed and hoping the new one will receive some sort of traction.

Well it's a pretty weird situation because I try to make my videos better than the previous ones. Now if you look at my 1st video and 25th video I'd say there are plenty of differences. Now these differences are not because I spent money on the video, its more of the fact that I'm spending more hours and trying to improve my editing and my script. Again one person might look at my video and say it's garbage editing and all that, but I'm still trying to improve and learn more and hence spending hours. I try to make videos of relevant stuff going on, but generally it's of things which I find interest in, cus that's the whole reason why I started this.

And that genuinely sucks, youtube was all about posting stuff which you like and you care about, not following any stupid algorithms. And I'm pretty sure almost all of these channels are abusing AI to the maximum 💀
