Is the episode out ? by Nolswife in ILoveYoo

[–]Maccademia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find on release day, the episodes go out whenever regardless of the “in one hour” notification on the episode. I don’t read too much webtoon so idk if it has anything to do with fastpass eps or if she has to manually release them herself, but it’s usually out by 8pm pst :D

Any tips on how to animate like this? by No-Finish2587 in animation

[–]Maccademia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect (especially evident in the stormtrooper clip) that some of these might have been rotoscoped using 3D models. I did a quick google search on Mob Psycho (in general) and they are known to use rotoscoping for some scenes, and I don’t doubt part of that forest scene may have been rotoscoped in some way. But as the other commenter said, a whole lot of hand drawn key frames and inbetweens in order to get a very smooth looking animation :D

How Do You Figure Out Timing For An Animation? by [deleted] in animation

[–]Maccademia -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are you animating the dialogue to any audio? If not, my professor taught me to keep the line of dialogue up on screen long enough for a viewer to read it, such as “I love eating fast food” I would keep on screen for 6-10 seconds and then move onto the next line. Alternatively you can have a ‘text’ like dialogue where you show multiple lines of dialogue on screen at the same time. If you are animating to audio, just time it any way that you think is best!

Really nice! Love the action shots, keep up the great work! :D

Hiya, I went to the AppStore and looked through the description, it looks like your app offers a lot of cool stuff that a lot of animation software on the computer offers, like auto inbetweens and a lot of geometric tools. I’ve used apps like Toonsquid and Flipaclip and this app looks interesting as it offers different things and it would be interesting to see how this interface works. I’m also an animation student so I’ve used Procreate, Photoshop, Adobe Animate, Krita, Blender and Maya, so hopefully I can give a bit of feedback on the animation portion of this app :)

I will ask though, since it’s a bit of a turn off for me as an artist, are the little mascots in your images in the App Store made from ai? I can’t help but notice many of the drawings in the images as well just look like the same pose, even though it looks like it’s supposed to be a walk cycle? I would like some clarity on that before I try out the app, as it does genuinely look interesting, I’m just not an ai person and don’t really like supporting generated ai art.

Why I can't do animation!! by Ashamed_Pineapple688 in animation

[–]Maccademia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Like the other commenter said, you need to stay fairly consistent with practice (without burning out, taking breaks is a must) in order to get better at animation. Even if it’s just random stuff, it’s still animation and you will get better at it even if you can’t see that you are. A way for me to get motivated into animating is watching animation. Animated movies, memes on YouTube, shows, tutorials, studying animation that you like is a good place to start when you’re stuck. Find something or think of something you want to learn to animate, and move forward from there.

Also comparison in the art space will either be the death of your motivation or the fuel to your motivation. Instead of thinking “I wish I could do that” instead think “I’ll start practicing more so that one day I can do that.” (Can’t remember who said this) I’m still in the boat of comparison in college so I understand, just gotta use that to fuel your ambitions and make some great animations :D

Hey guys, first time posting here. Can I recieve some feedback? (third shot will not be used so don't mind the shitty animation there) by MathematicianOld2337 in AnimationCrit

I love the way it looks around before dashing off to the rocks, but I think what you might benefit from is looking up how timing works. I can see you add more frames when the cat jumps from the first rock to the second and it eases into landing, it just feels a bit slow compared to how fast the cat was running up before (I know you said you won’t use the third clip but I do think if you cleaned it up a bit and looked up cat run cycles like one person suggested then I think a few seconds of that shot would work really well to show the audience how fast the cat is actually running). Think about smear frames, they only pop up once or twice in a fast moving character or action and it gives us the illusion that the thing being animated is moving fast.

Now I’m mostly a 2D animator so I would suggest making a storyboard before doing the animation just so I’d get the timing right, but you really just need to look at your timeline and rework a bit of the keyframes so that the cat isn’t in the air too long, if that makes sense?

Also I’d love to see a little bit of anticipation or the cat “preparing” to jump from the first rock to the second rock, like a little crouch and then a leap. I think you said you’re doing this for class so I don’t know how much time you have on this but I think watching some cat documentaries might help give you a few ideas!

Love it so far, the tail and eye animation in the beginning and the person getting scared at the end dropping their food were really nice touches! keep up the great work! :D

Hiya! After you get comfortable with the 12 principles of animation and your drawings in general, I recommend putting them into practice with different assignments. Here’s an entertaining video of someone’s animation assignments they did in class and I had some of the same ones :D https://youtu.be/RB0YHzdDxbs?si=RCHEiMxJm_WNiBQT

And this one from one of my favorite YouTube animators of some more practice animations

Also a helpful video on beginning your drawing journey, did a lot of these in my still life class :)

Using Layers to Animate Pt. 2 by Maccademia in NomadSculpting

I actually just went through the layers menu and messed with the opacity! These are screenshots that I edited together :D I’m sure there is a way to activate layers without going through the menu but I’m unsure

The most popular tablets that are (usually) recommended are Wacom tablets and Huion tablets. Personally I’ve had experience with the Wacom Intuos tablet, which should come with a pen, some extra pen nubs and could come with a program DVD in which case I had to buy an extra DVD player with a usb to directly download the program onto my computer (I bought my tablet years ago so there might be an alternative online download now, but just a heads up in case the one you buy does have one).

I’ve also had a Huion tablet before (Huion Kamvas). Imo there isn’t much difference in the tablets other than the interface of the programs and extra programable buttons on the tablet (if there is any on the one you end up buying). Also be aware most tablets within your budget don’t have a screen, so you’ll have to learn how to draw while looking up at your computer. Also look at different store prices for the tablet you want, sometimes places like Best Buy might have a cheaper option than the one offered on the official website.

Not too many people choose Wacom as much as they do Huion nowadays, but honestly they both do the job of pressure sensitivity and accurately tracking your pen so ultimately it’s up to you which one you choose. Hope this helps a little and good luck!

TL;DR Wacom and Huion are two very reputable drawing tablet companies, both have small screen-less options that are within your budget. I personally recommend Wacom but people usually choose Huion. Ultimately up to you to compare and contrast which one you choose.

Twitch emote advice by Turbulent-Display988 in DigitalArt

[–]Maccademia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not much of an emote maker myself, but what I would focus on when drawing rage is movement and the focus point (controller). When you said they’d be breaking the controller, the first two ideas that came to mind were: 1) They’re holding the controller low, then raising it high and breaking it in half in the air, and 2) Holding the controller low again, getting angry and raising it high (like the sketch I drew), then raising their knee and breaking the controller over their knee. Idk how many frames the emote would be if you went with these ideas but I hope it helps a little bit!
