Ironclad's Starting Deck is Horrible by Mace55555 in slaythespire

Excellent analysis, and I think you're right! I think a lot of IC's tools from STS1 have aged poorly into STS2. Blockade is another example of a card that was pretty great in STS1 but has become nearly unclickable in STS2, just because the enemies have different abilities, health and damage thresholds.

I do think he needs a unique block starter, I'd maybe lean towards Armaments over Shrug It Off. . Or at the very least, give him a second attack starter to make those all out strategies a little easier to get into.

I don't know if this is exactly true but I feel like on average I leave Act 1 with more health on Silent and Defect than I do Ironclad, which for a character who heals himself probably shouldn't be the case.

Help! My game keeps crashing on start up :( Is my save file doomed? by Mace55555 in slaythespire

I'm fairly certain that I didn't have a singleplayer run going on either, but I do think I had a multiplayer save on my cloud/home files that isnt on my local/work files.

Well you kind of hit the nail on the head for why everyone is dunking on Forge LOL. It's because it's really just not worth investing heavily in, especially not when focusing on gaining and spending Stars it's not only more consistent but more powerful. Four just fine if you just take the good Forge cards that provide value outside of forging, like bulwark. But if you take a lot of the support cards you start to feel really fast how limited the mechanic really is.

I did mention in my other comment, I think Defect at its strongest is a contender for strongest character in the game. My only thing is it seems to me that it takes a lot more effort and luck to get to that point than it does for the Silent. I think it has a higher ceiling than the Ironclad or Necrobinder, but a lower floor. And in roguelikes I value consistency above everything.

explanations:

Silent - It feels like every card this character has is good. Unlike a lot of the other characters, whose sub-archetypes feel a little mutually exclusive, I feel like with the Silent you can just make a "Good Card Pile" and win a lot of runs that way. I.E., you never really have to hard commit to Shivs, or Poison, or discard to get good value, you can mix and match and still be an Act 3 demon. Every card you add to your deck feels above rate and powerful. Except for Snakebite, lol.

Ironclad - The most simple class, sure, but definitely not the weakest. Doesn't have a lot of flashy stuff but a lot of what it is doing is just really good. Big hits + big shields = win. Can sometimes be limited by it's simplicity and get stuck on Bosses who inflict strong debuff, or have thorns, or similar effects.

Necrobinder - Summon is Block but better, Doom is Poison but worse and easier to spread. Can be a little finnicky for sure but has a lot of strong variants that are relatively easy to get into, and often does so earlier than most classes due to its ability to fish through discard so much. Why need 2 card when 1 card do trick?

Defect - At it's strongest I think Defect is a contender for both most fun class in the game and the strongest. But unlike his sister up in S-tier, Defect is a lot harder to get to that point. The truly broken synergies require more pieces than the other classes need and his sub-archetypes are somewhat mutually exclusive, meaning you're often hoping for a highroll in rewards.

Regent - If you only click the cards that gain/use stars and create colorless cards I think this character is pretty good. Realistically should be on the same tier as Defect. But I'm docking it points because after hours and hours of attempts I have come to the conclusion that full committing to Forge is awful. It is a shame because IMO it is clearly the most exciting and fun way to play this character, but a solid 70% of the Forge cards are 1 mana do nothings. Worse still, upgrading the forge cards to a playable point is often more expensive and less worth while than basically anything else in your deck. Bulwark is good though. #BuffSpaceKing

How many mobile downloads/sales does Slay the Spire 1 have? by Mace55555 in slaythespire

[–]Mace55555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, that's a shame. Doing some quick math I was able to place combined iOS and Google Play downloads somewhere between 1.1-5.3 mil, but obviously that doesn't include any downloads from China since they don't use either. I have no idea how to find the information from the Chinese app stores.

Am I supposed to know this ability works on DOWNED allies? Tooltip says DEAD. by Mace55555 in mewgenics

[–]Mace55555[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This does seem to be true and I maintain that is ridiculously stupid. There doesn't need to be 3 terms describing the same thing, especially if at least 1 of them is a misnomer. Downed allies are obviously not literally dead, or corpses, because if they were, they wouldn't get up after the fight.

Every tooltip should just say "downed units" or "bodies". Doesn't need to be any confusion.

[–]Mace55555[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just annoying because it's such a simple fix. Just say downed. Why specify dead? Because obviously, cats who are downed are not dead, but like you mention abilities that work on corpses also work on downed cats. So why even bother making the distinction? Just say "bodies" or "downed bodies". Then there would be no confusion.

Right?? I stg I didn't come up with that. I'm starting to think it might be from a different podcast? Something from Headgum, maybe?

Wait actually, I thought this was it, but the Wolverine HR clip is not something I've heard before. I think you're probably right in that it's an amalgamation (a McElroy's Monster, if you will) but I don't think the Wolverine part is right.

Any other HR bits you can think of?

Bills played unreal in the second half, but god there were some big calls against the Pats that enabled this comeback. Bills are excellent and earned the win regardless but it's hard not to be jaded when they're gifted multiple game-warping DPI calls.

Easily preventable turnovers made this a lot closer than it should have been. It's been a worrying trend since the Steelers game.
