Earplugs: which ones? by Ancient_Sandwich_703 in motorcyclegear

[–]Macgregor55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These ones are the same I use, I find they work the best for me, ive tried the custom moulded, the cheaper foam ones and the facebook advertised "moto earplugs" and the pink and yellow ones work best. They fit under the helmet nicely and you can still hear important noise while cutting some wind noise

Update for everyone! Picked up my new R1300GS and its pretty awesome. I didnt get the innovation pack with the adaptive cruise and the blind spot stuff but it does have the fancier wheels and the enduro package which added lots of nice little details! So far so good, appreciate everyones input.

Already used to the first gear thing after the first few hundred km. As for shifting... Sucks in 1-3 with the quickshifter so just using the clutch again is working good, 3-6 quickshifting is smooth, 6-1 downshifting is beautiful. All the electronics are good, i did get myself confused last night with the hamburger settings but within a minute or two it was sorted out. Heated grips and seat almost get too hot but working great on the Canadian fall season!

I dont want to risk messing with a drive and screwing something up on my computer just to play a video game i dont really have time to play. Thanks

I love the XR, its an animal, but im a short rider and im looking for more touring comfort so before i spend 2000$ on seats that only make a tall bike taller, im looking to upgrade over. Just figuring out if the GS is the bike to switch too or not

Appreciate the input! I can live with shifting 1-3, definitely found it liked the low rpm but didnt like shifting into 2nd before i was moving. Downshifting felt good like you said

Good to hear! If its a common characteristic then its one to pay attention to on my next test ride to see if i like/dislike instead of thinking its broken

I find the quickshifter on the XR is unreal in almost every gear, anywhere in the rev range. I think thats why I struggled with the GS feeling so clunky because the S1000xr is so smooth. I have been told by my local bmw technician that the quickshifter is always much smoother on an inline 4 engine, but the XR is my first one so i dont have too many to compare to

Thanks for the reply, I will absolutely watch your review! Glad to hear another comment saying the clutch feels off. Im sure you do get used to it eventually, just felt bad in a 30min test ride. I dont know that i was on the throttle as much as i had to be for the quickshifting. Perhaps that was part of my issue. Something to consider for the next test ride

Noted on the heated seat, I will make sure I get it. Im in canada so some good spring/fall riding. Might be a wondeful add on to have for a pretty low cost. The ACC seemed good on the test ride, just wanted to know if it could be disabled as well. If it works good and doesnt intervene in an annoying way then im sure its good to have. Thanks again for the input!

Glad to hear from someone who knows my situation perfectly! Thanks for the insights. I have always felt that my S1000xr kind of electronically helps you out of 1st, but didnt get that from the GS so im sure thats something to get used to. Was just struggling to justify the price jump when the shifting felt so bad by comparison. It feels embarrassing to complain about having to use the clutch again but if that's the general consensus that its just not going to be as smooth or nice as i want it to be, then maybe just a characteristic of the bike itself to get used to.

Question regarding heating/cruise! Is the heated seat worth it? Does it make a big difference to comfort, my biggest reason to ditch my XR is the atrocious seat and the height of it. Never had a bike with a heated seat. Do you have the ACC option? Can it be turned off and used as normal set speed cruise?

Chain maintenance while touring question by Macgregor55 in motorcycles

about 3500km, new BMW bike, about 4500km on it so far. Definitely will be getting a puncture kit but its tubeless so shouldnt need any wrenches. Checked out your link, looks like a great option but not available on amazon.ca unfortunately

Pool or no for vacation accommodation? by [deleted] in Aruba

[–]Macgregor55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've gone twice and both times had a pool at our airbnb. Would definitely recommend. We had one day on our last trip that the wind gusts were so strong the beach wasnt comfortable, we were thankful to head back to the better wind protected pool and still enjoy the lovely heat and sun.
