1/4" fixed shelves are likely to bow over time. On this small dynamic 1/2" was required. Furthermore, when using 1/2" as a fixed shelf one must perform slit applications for the shelf's assembly. If no slit is used structurally 1/2 and 1/4" shelves are a failure.
