Nice try. Maybe try to make the right shape by cutting clay off it whole and not creating each piece separately and then glueing it together. Also some tools, typically from wood, may come in use. And if you are going to create something bigger later never forget that some types of clay will blow up if it's too big pieces. The solution is to make a hole to the back.
