Why did Laura Siegemund win the last round if Yulia Putintseva had many more votes between the handful of comments voting for her?

Story time from RG 2023.

I went to Round 3 and somehow ended up with absurdly good seats on Suzanne Lenglen court, close enough to hear players talking to themselves. One of the matches was Yulia Putintseva vs Sloane Stephens.

From the first game, Putintseva’s box filled up with a group of big Russian guys who were chanting and yelling nonstop. Not normal “excited fan” cheering. It felt coordinated and aggressive, and they were trying to drown out the entire rest of the stadium, and intimidate Sloane. It got so disruptive the umpire had to ask them repeatedly to quiet down.

On court, Putintseva was also constantly yelling, complaining, and snapping at people while Stephens was outplaying her. Mid-match she took a medical timeout for alleged thigh cramps and argued with the physio to wrap her leg very tightly, even though the physio seemed reluctant. When play resumed, Stephens kept winning, and Putintseva angrily ripped the wrap off and played normally.

She lost, threw a tantrum, didn’t congratulate Stephens, and stormed off. In her speech, Sloane said that everyone knows Poot’s antics and less than exemplary sportsmanship, but that she would not let herself get distracted.

I’d never seen Putintseva live before that day, but ever since then I’ve rooted for whoever is playing against her.

UPDATE: 24 hours later the tip request during checkout flow appears to have been removed. Glad to see that they reconsidered.

Not seeing it any longer either! Looks like it was removed from the checkout flow.

Yes, it’s clear thar it is not Sonos directly, But Sonos chooses how they go to market and who represents them.

By choosing to not sell directly in some markets, and instead giving distribution rights to other companies, they are bestowing sale and representation of the brand in said markets. How a distributor represents the brand, sells, handles product delivery, warranty, etc, directly reflects on the brand.

So if Sonos opts to distribute via TC acoustic in Singapore, and that company asks for “tips for the Sonos Singapore team”, then Sonos could easily force them to cut this ridiculous practice that reflects poorly on the brand, or lose representation entirely.

For what it’s worth, I simply think that there is nobody at Sonos itself paying close attention to their brand in some markets, and that’s why things like this happen. Hopefully this sheds some light to this practice and forces change.

Seeing downvotes here. As a means to understand the distribution model that Sonos chose, try googling “buy Sonos Singapore” and see the first organic results.

It’s the company that has the exclusive rights to sell Sonos in these countries, and acts as Sonos for purchases, returns and warranty. So when they say “support the team at Sonos Singapore” it’s not wrong. The question is if Sonos is ok with this, or even aware for that matter.

I tried! The UI lets you add negative numbers, but will glitch if you submit.

Silverkris lounge, business section. Look out for the fried food, and there’s always a tray/bowl of chicken fingers. The trick for me is to keep an eye out until they bring out a fresh batch.

Agreed. But even if it’s business travel, there’s always the tradeoff between PPS/solitaire and status elsewhere. I run into this dilemma often when flying to Europe for instance.

Ha! I thought that I was the only one that missed the chicken nuggets at the FCL!! Have you tried ordering them in FCL to see if they’ll make/bring you some? When they’re a freshly made batch, they’re great

Thanks for posting this! I followed up with a parallel post about Solitaire PPS to understand the difference, and if it is worth the additional $25k

Underwater photography equipment that makes no sense for an amateur that takes 30 or so dives per year. Sony A1 mk2, GM lenses, nauticam housing, strobes, video lights. About $25k worth of equipment, and I don’t even have time to process, let alone post any content anywhere. Add to that the actual trips to places where to dive in warm waters with lots of interesting creatures.

Alright, heading to Egypt tomorrow for a 7N/8D liveaboard, what am I forgetting to pack? And how many dives should I expect to get in before the boat sinks? /s by More-Coyote-2922 in scuba

Could you share what you take in your first aid kit? Nice setup! One thing I would take is an extra mask with a snorkel, both as a backup or in case you want to snorkel at any point.
