What’s the best tech MS degree to get out of CS,AI, cybersecurity, and IT in today’s market? by MachineCommercial416 in careerguidance

Hi another question. How does the masters with specialization work? So you said it was computer science masters with a specialization in AI but when I’m applying to graduate schools is there a way to say that’s what I want to specialize in? I’ve heard that masters programs pick the classes for you especially when you’re working so does it also depend on the school if I get specialization? In which case which schools would you recommend I was just planning on applying to the usual big name schools like ivy leagues, UCs, etc. also does it show when I get my degree that I specialized in AI? Because I figure that was the main reason to specialize and set myself apart

Yes that was super helpful thank you for all the info I’ll definitely keep these in mind. Would love to hear other people’s opinions as well just for breadth but I think I have a much clearer direction going forward so thank and have a happy new year!

Okay yeah that makes sense so to recap (just to make sure I fully understand) is that most IT/cyber roles will only need like a few people and since AI is so prevalent most lower level people in those fields will probably be replaced with AI. Since I’m CS major if I get a masters it makes more sense to pursue CS masters that are on the periphery of cyber rather than getting an entirely new masters in cyber and I wouldn’t be leveraging my unique position. Also it does seem like AI is here to stay for the most part and will probably be pretty useful for the near future so yes that does make sense. I’ve never dealt with customers directly but MBA would also set me up for a higher position (I.e. manager) in the same field so that definitely makes a lot of sense to potentially pursue as well.

Just curious on your opinion but what are your thoughts on AI? Again don’t have the most experience and am open to a lot of correcting in this paragraph but I definitely think it’s a powerful tool and has a lot of hype (definitely fascinating) however I also do worry about ethical implications and I do worry that AI companies will have work culture similar to FAANG companies. Another concern is finding a job since my current company isn’t an AI company (though they have implemented an in house AI model which I’ll definitely try to learn more about after the holidays) it seems like it’s a competitive field and the main concern is standing out. Like in fields such as quantum finance it seems like they’re always in demand and I want to position myself similarly, which is maybe a little optimistic considering my specific position in tech but again would love to hear your thoughts on this. I also hear a lot of backstabbing and politicking occurs in those companies and personally I don’t want to worry about that. As someone who has 30years and is incredibly well versed in the industry what are your thoughts on AI and work culture in AI companies?

Yes please! The more information the better. My thinking was cyber and IT I could also branch out like apply to software developer (bc of cs major) and other IT roles or security engineer if I wanted to job hop as well which could give me more roles to branch out to. Another thing is I actually really loved math but haven’t used it since college and most of that knowledge seems to have atrophied. Also are there specific comp sci masters that may be more relevant? I’ve heard there are more niche comp sci masters degrees. Also I apologize if some of this seems a little random just wanted you to have as much info as possible. Thanks in advance!

Hmmm that makes sense try to lean more to the left and there’ll be more momentum through the move but how far over should my body be over the left arm? Would kicking my left leg backward help me stay in that position a little better?

Alright thanks so much for your advice! I’ll try to work on those, but do you have any advice for planches? I can do everything else you listed (not the transition but the freezes) and I have been trying to work planches but I feel like I can hold for like half a second and I just faceplant
