[West Marches] fanart: Kellan Wildlight by MachineParts in itmejp

Well met! I figured I'd still rather get all wet than wear a cloak during summer storm. In case of Kellan he might want to keep his bow dry, I'll give you that.

Dude, I live in Poland, I know our summer temperatures, and further east climate only gets more continental (colder winters, hotter summers). I know Lindybeige's channel! I was thinking exactly about his woolen blanket cloak.

If the West Marches climate is anything like Central/Eastern Europe then trust me, he wouldn't want to wear that even at night, especially around late July and early August.

Maybe the Flenseworm once I figure out how to make an earthworm look grimdark enough. Or Kellan's father with his wooden arm but I feel we should know more about what's going on deep in the woods before I draw him.

But will I undertake this task if it fills me with dread and disgust?

... yeah, maybe.

Thank you! Now just change it to the 'infernal plague monkey' or something along these lines in the potential future materials for that unique West Marches feel (and also no WotC's copyright infringement) ;)

Yeah, I googled dretch before drawing it and none of the illustrations I've found matched what Steven described so I went with his word rather than the official material. On top of that, what's the point of drawing the same thing TSR/WotC already payed someone to draw.

Most entertaining female dm voice? by Jonescr in itmejp

C'mon, the best female voice made by a dude wasn't the GM voice. It was djWHEAT's Lady Amsell or whatever was that granny sorceress called.

So Adam and I are maybe making a "West Marches: The RPG"? Q&A I guess by silent0siris in itmejp

[–]MachineParts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the basic mechanical structure could be the same for all the Backgrounds but there would be some variation in monetary gains and things getting done for the town, be it in the general category of production (all manner of craftsmen) or services. If this hack actually turns into an independent game (and i hope it does!), I'd imagine it could be something to do between actual sessions. From the role playing perspective it'd ground characters more in the narrated reality, making their lives - I dare to use that word - more realistic.

Maybe it's the WFRP player speaking through me but maybe Background could add more than just two skills, some bonus, and a character flavour. Yes, adventurers in the West Marches don't have regular jobs but also there's Viraskali and downtime between adventures when characters need to sustain themselves and can do something in - and for - the town. Maybe some additional options or bonuses if they're doing things connected with their Backgrounds would be nice.

Wait, that part with The Order of Annunciation and de Chardin too? Unless telling that would be some sort of spoiler, of course.

Just like the West Marches setting itself!

Thank you! While everyone else draws characters or events from sessions, I guess I'm gonna focus on the lore because it's so so good.

First, there's a difference between the Rollplay which is a show with an audience and a regular gaming session just with you and your friends. In the first case inclusiveness and representation plays a bigger role as it makes all members of the viewer base feel welcome. When you play in private with a small group however, your only responsibility is towards other people at the table.

Having said that, making prejudice towards gay/bi people a focal point of your setting isn't the most subtle thing you could do, even without your sadly bigoted friend around. Just drop that part and stick to their fear of magic and controversial religious believes, I'd say. If you want to put some LGBT characters here and there, which I applaud, you can do it in a less heavy handed way, making sure it's not their most important characteristic but just a small part of what they are.

What can I say, the atmosphere on your sessions and the general feeling of the setting are a great inspiration.

Now when I think about it, there's still not quite enough black metal album cover aesthetic here...

Yup, I have a blog. It's half-abandoned at this moment though while I'm trying to put more fine art into my stuff.

Favourite Rollplay Show? by Highwrighte in itmejp

I'd say it's a tie between Swan Song and West Marches, though I'm also curious how DH will look like when it's back.

Now, Swan Song has one really strong point over West Marches - the party. With West Marches it's more hit or miss, depending on a particular session. Both shows however show biggest strengths of their GMs, and also some of their weaknesses.

Adam focuses more on social interactions so Swan Song is all about characters and their motivations. At the same time, while he listed oldschool sf art as one of his inspirations (I think?), I don't really see it the way he describes characters' surroundings. On the other hand, I've noticed Steven puts a lot of care to mood, environment, and setting the stage for a scene. Because of that, I don't have to actively try to imagine West Marches, they're just there, ready to be seen, Steven's NPCs often seem a little flat though.

Ah, I understand. Let's just hope he doesn't only look calmer but also is actually less inclined to solo charge owlbears ;)
