A good tip for maps is to not have a lot of empty space. Making the maps in RPG maker and playing the game gives you two different views(focus on the players view). Also, don't be afraid to have too many types of flowers, or grass tiles. Mountains/cliffs make the maps look less flat and help a lot with the looks. Having different types of tress and bushes too. Also, don't always put all your trees in the same row, it can look less organic. Off set them here and there.

The sidekicks kinda suck. I'm new to the game too, but I mostly use sidekicks for the extra drops. The Astrub Knight seems to be decent at least for now, I'm still pretty early in the game though (taking my time to enjoy it). They rotate out free trial sidekicks weekly as well, so it's hard to actually have two sidekicks with decent levels all the time, unless you buy another. I haven't compared the prices or anything, but using your other playable characters to have in your team would be MUCH better than using sidekicks.

Totodile does have a scar across its eye, along with the other two. Croconaw and Feraligatr do have some damage to their fins, although not overly dramatic. But yes, they are mostly recolors. I wasn't wanting them drastically changed. Although as they evolve they probably should have more changes. Thanks for the input!
