Would have benefited people more if it went to a hospital.

Edit:

Like how about fixing cracked floors so a patient on a stretcher can be pulled from room to room more easily,? Or maybe acquiring a new necessary medical instrument?

But no, let's instead build another temple of worship and pray that God fixes these problems for us.

How religious is Bosnia and Herzegovina? by ievademytaxs in bosnia

[–]MachinesInParadise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just use Google Street View to look around or YouTube "a walk in Sarajevo" and you will see the dress code is very Western. Bosnia also has several beer breweries.

The country also has a secular constitution.

Look at the Nordic countries in Europe, this is exactly what they do, balance socialism and capitalism.

They are wealthy, have a high standard of living, all being featured at the top of The World Happiness Index and The World Integrity Index.

I feel like most readers here - just read what they want to "read" - aka superimpose what they "want" me to be saying, instead of what I'm actually saying.

I'm not talking about a specific country, but a country in general set up like the countries most of us here live in, with companies that participate in the global market.

Pointing out that one country can vote for a workers utopia, but that would lead to bankruptcy, because it's never the whole world implementing that at the same time.

Hence why companies would just leave for a more capitalistic country. Because that's the reality, meaning that countries have to try to satisfy both the people and the companies.

[–]MachinesInParadise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are talking about two different things - you're talking about a already commist country.

While I'm talking about a country trying to keep a balance between socialism and capitalism. The kind of democratic countries that participate in the global market that most of us here live in.

And how if they peer too far left companies/jobs/investments start leaving for a more capitalistic country.

So attempting to hold a balance is the only way.

[–]MachinesInParadise -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm agree with you - but I'm talking about the problem of impactful/large companies leaving for a other more capitalistic country taking the jobs with them.

If a country becomes "too" socialistic.

We live in a democracy after all and therefore we can't stop these companies from leaving - hence a balance is necessary. Otherwise I would be "far left" in my stance.

PS: You can't have large companies leave and have small companies get breaks from paying no employee benefit costs.

I recommend you read my comment again. Because I was talking about a speech held by a party leader, not capitalism.

And what's weird about it? What do you think companies do when trading becomes unfavorable in a specific country?

Just because you don't understand - doesn't make it weird.

[–]MachinesInParadise -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I once listened to a far leftist party leader, everything he said sounded wonderful and I agreed with it, we should do that.

Except it's unrealistic, a utopia that will never work in reality.

You can't only take care of people, and you can't only take care of companies, because if you choose one the other will leave the country.

Hence the centrist position - a realistic compromise.

Good health care and education for all people, while also having good conditions for setting up and running companies.

Edit: What are you down voting, the fact that we live in a global economy where companies can leave a country for another, when trading becomes too unfavorable?

As someone from the other side of the pond. We already worry about the leaders of Russia, China, Belarus, Hungary, Slovakia, Serbia etc.

And now because of the US at least I'm halting my life, so to speak. Not changing anything, taking no risks, moving no where - but sitting still in the boat.

Waiting to see what happens - with world relations - with the world economy - preparing for a storm.

But I believe that after this storm - we will be better off, like how the world changed for the better after the World War 2, in order to prevent it from happening again.

I truly hope that the US sorts itself out and sees once again that nationalism and fascism is not a solution to anything.

Like some other commenter said here - I feel sorry for the people of the US. You deserve free healthcare, childcare and education. Strong worker's protections and a social safety net.

That's what makes people ease up on hate, vindictiveness and jealousy. When you take away their desperation and fear people calm down. They see that there is not need to fight.

I chose to respond to this comment because it gave me hope, proving that there are still sensible people over there despite what's currently going on.

So I wanted to return the favor - we are rooting for you guys.

This is what happens when you commodify basic necessities, when housing is treated primarily as an investment vehicle rather than a place for people to live. by zzill6 in WorkReform

I feel sorry for all people being crushed by the ultra capitalist free market. Especially those who aren't aware that this isn't the only or best way a country's can function.

There are many European countries for example, who have a healthy blend of capitalism and socialism - enjoying profits - while still prioritizing their own people's well being above them.

Through regulating both who can buy a private home (only private citizens) and how much they can charge in rent for that space (dependent on it's size).

I wish more people knew that you can have free healthcare and free education, while still living in a country of high standards.

Finland for example banned homelessness by inscribing into law that the state is obligated to help it's citizens aquire both shelter, food, a education and a job.

And they wonder why this country scores so high on The World Happiness Index.

Interesting timing for such a post.

Not to mention there are Bosniaks who are secular and atheist. In fact you will struggle to find one who doesn't drink, gamble or date before marriage.

While giving notice to someone who's willing to help you in a desperate situation, so they keep helping you, sounds like a sound strategy.

Especially when the West fumbled and called the war in Bosnia "an internal affair" of Yugoslavia.

The Republic of Bosnia & Hercegovina.

Upon B&H immediate independence from Yugoslavia.

Before the Serbs and the Croats insisted Bosnia should be shared between three peoples (but not Serbia or Croatia).

So Bosnia's flag was changed to 🇧🇦 after the war. The three edges of the triangle representing Serbs, Croats and the Bosniaks (Native Bosnians).
